The skies had begun to lighten with the first of morning riding over the mountains of Ireland. Ian brooded behind me as I pushed open the door and exchanged a look with William. In my absence, he had taken the liberty to clear off the table. A fresh batch of coffee was brewing and it looked like he had straightened his notes. I was somewhat irate that there was nothing left for me to do and so seated myself at the table and recovered my blanket. “What time is it?” I asked. “Nearly dawn,” he said. “Are you alright?” The question surprised me.
