Chapter 3.
THANE’S POV.
“Alpha… you can’t keep that human here forever,” Cornelio said as he made his presence known to me,
“I don’t think you get to make that decision for me,” I said.
“But you’re risking it all for her? You don’t even know if she’s an imposter or if she is a threat….” He started but I cut him off before he could even finish.
“She’s not harmful… she’s more useful than you think,” I said shutting off the conversation,
“Alpha, you’re toying with fire. Your father died immediately she stepped into this castle, that’s enough sign that she’s trouble,” Cornelio pushed,
“She didn’t kill him…. Now drop it!” I demanded immediately ending the conversation.
“Alpha… are you busy?” Sorcerer Supreme’s voice rang in the room,
“Come in… do you have an update ?” I asked,
“Actually alpha, I thought it would be only right to hear the depths of this curse….” He said,
“Curse? What curse are you talking about?” Cornelio asked in utter panic,
“Take a seat,” I instructed,
“What do I have to know?” I questioned as I reached for the stack of folders he handed to me,
“The curse was given to your fifth-generation grandparents and every year the heir turns twenty-nine, they inherit the curse, and after they do, they have a year to live or die. But it has been observed that birthing a heir preserves their life, which is why you need to get married by next month,” the sorcerer said,
“Get married by next month? Curse?…. all of these shouldn’t be happening, it’s all that girl's fault Alpha and now, she has managed to bewitch you,” Cornelio fought,
“Alpha? A girl….” The sorcerer questioned,
“ I am not ready to get married to just anyone…” I retorted,
“But we don’t have much time. It’s either you get married quickly and get an heir or you die, you have one year to do this….” He said with the sound of the bell ringing, alerting us that it was midnight.
I felt a sharp pain pierce through my heart like I had been shot with a spear from behind. I fell to the floor unable to move from the unbearable pain,
“Alpha… are you okay?” Cornelio asked Sprinting to assist me,
“Take this,” the sorcerer said throwing a substance in our direction. Cornelio immediately emptied the contents in my mouth as the effects of whatever it was slowly eased my pain. After a few minutes, I had regained myself and was ready to understand if this was what dad went through his whole life.
“Alpha… this is only the beginning. From what I witnessed, my Lord claimed that it was extremely difficult each day that came by, which is why you need to get married,” the sorcerer pleaded,
“I agree with you, I made a promise to always protect you, if getting an heir would save you, we shall summon a banquet requesting the finest women from the kingdom to be selected as your wife,” he said,
“I don’t want any of this,” I said,
“Neither do we but it’s either this or you die….and alpha if you die, the Bloodwitch pack takes all the territories. They have been strategically after the territories we share including this throne. If you pass they would be unstoppable,” he warned.
“Alpha if you say no to this I’m sorry but I have no other choice but to go against your words. I shall spread the word about the banquet. It shall happen tomorrow night my lord,” Cornelio continued,
“Cornelio…” I tried to stop him but he was long gone before another word could escape my lips.
“Are you sure there’s no other way to go about this? It’s a curse? Can’t we find a means to break it….” I asked,
“The moon goddess who had placed the curse on your forefather had long passed after the clash between the humans and wolf world so now the only way to break it is to find the bloodline of the moon goddess, but that’s all I know. Till we find a descendant then we can know more about breaking the curse,” he said,
“You need to do more. Find out where this woman lived and all I need to know about her generation. I don’t want to be trapped in a marriage all because I’m afraid of a curse killing me. I have never obtained a scratch from a fight all my life. This isn’t going to be the winning battle,” I spat,
“I’ll keep my hands busy Alpha… but for now you have to constantly take this potion. It will help relieve you until we find you a bride,” he said causing my stomach to turn at the thought of my newly found identity. I hated every part of this.
“I don’t think there would be a need for Cornelio to summon a banquet for me to select a wife,” I said as my mind lingered on the connection I shared with my encounter with the human girl. Marrying her will only give me a reason for her to stay. She can’t go anywhere if she’s my luna, plus, I have made a promise to protect her, and that’s exactly what I will be doing.
“I need to know more about Mate bonds, I haven’t really taken a keen interest in knowing about them up until this moment,” I said to him,
“Alpha…. Do you suggest we have enough time for you to find your mate,” he questioned,
“There isn’t but I believe time isn’t the problem, just tell me all I need to know. That’s all I ask,” I said to him as the sorcerer took in a deep breath before sharing all the information he deemed fit I knew.
“Alpha I would like to return to work now…. Let me know if you need anything else from me, my lord,” he said before finally taking his exit.
“That meant there was a chance she was my mate. That’s why she felt the same pain I felt. But why would I be mated to a human if it was forbidden? Was this curse specifically just for me or was the moon goddess just being unfair to me,” I thought to myself.
I turned twenty-nine today and immediately inherited a curse and the painful part was that I had no family to run to about this. I only had Cornelio who had taken me as a younger brother even though he was just a year older than me and was in no way related to me by blood.
As I stepped out of the room, my eyes averted to the figure standing shaken at the end of the hallway,
“Are you okay?” I asked as I took bold steps towards her.
“Stay away from me…” she let out taking drastic steps farther from me,
“I’m not going to hurt you, relax and go back to your room,” I said,
“Don’t ask me to go back there. That is not my room nor is this my house. I don’t belong here, I shouldn't be here so let me go this instant,” she cried but this time I was done trying to have a civilized conversation with her, instead I walked up to her in full pace picking her up and swinging her over my shoulder, amidst the numerous slaps she threw my way. The audacity she had to lay a finger on me, but it was almost as if feathers were thrown at me delicately.
I threw her to the bed, closing in on her to show her how stern I was about my decision in keeping her here,
“I don’t think you got it the first time, you are not leaving…” I said,
“Why?” She barked, trying to escape my grip,
“Because you’re mine now and I own you,” I said straight into her eyes, with one of my grips steady on her wrist and the other supporting her chin,
“You have no right to own me, you have no right to keep me here…. I shouldn't be here!” She screamed still in denial of her fate,
“Well, news flash you’re mine now. You will be my wife. You will have my kids. You are right where you are meant to be, you’re not leaving my sight and that’s final.” I said staring deep into her soul, deep enough that she should have those words imprinted in her brain.
