~ Gabriel ~ The light emanating from us was so bright I couldn’t open my eyes even if I tried. Another minute ticked by and I felt the heat from Eve subside to a level warm enough to be bearable. Pulling back, I looked down to see if her new powers had finally settled. I didn’t let go as she leaned back and examined my face. I wasn’t sure what my new additions looked like, but hers were…breathtaking. When we were both at the peak of ascending into our new powers her eyes; pupils and the whites, went entirely blood red, as dark as wine. Her hair had fallen out of the hair tie she attempted to contain it in and was floating around her face on an invisible wind. Her hair had always been dark, but it darkened to the point where it seemed to suck out the light around it. Flames licked off her shoulders, but she hasn’t seemed to notice, and every time she opened her mouth, the back of her throat glowed like a hot ember while smoked billowed out of her nose and mouth like a dragon. She was death, destruction, and power all rolled into one being, and more than that she was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. The fact that she was so new to all of this, only knowing about any of it for about a week, while I had known for years and yet she was the one who saved me proved that she had a deep, innate understanding that had been coded into her DNA. I didn’t need to tell her what I knew she had figured out; her and I were the sun and the moon, night and day, yin and yang. We were the exact definition of balance in this world and it was our duty to maintain that balance despite the good and bad that already incited chaos on this planet.  As the smoke rolled off of her, I held on to support her weight. I could tell she was tired and when her knees finally buckled, I swept a hand under her legs and picked her up before she collapsed. Carrying her to her room I realized I didn’t want to let go of her, ever. She had nestled her head between my arm and chest and looking at her now made me feel like I wanted her to be by my side until the end of time, and considering what we were, it was entirely possible that we could actually live that long.  Making it to her room, I laid her on her bed and once again took her shoes off. Looking down at her as if for the first time since we ascended, I finally felt how bone-tired both of us were and decided to sit just for a second to rest my eyes and then I would leave. Laying down next to her, I rolled to my side, facing her to see how she was doing and to make sure she was still breathing. Somehow, as my weight dipped toward her on the bed she must have unconsciously felt the shift and rolled onto her side as well, facing me on the bed. I couldn’t help myself as I threw a protective arm around her and drew her in close to me. Finally feeling like I could relax, I kissed Eve’s forehead and laid my head on the pillow just for a second. I was so tired I wasn’t sure if I could even stand, let alone walk more than ten feet in any direction before collapsing. I’m not sure how it happened or how quickly, but a moment later and I had fallen into a deep sleep paralysis and had no choice but to ride it out.   ~ Evelyn ~             I had no idea how long Gabe and I had been KO’ed for, but when I woke up again feeling less like death, the sun hadn’t yet begun to rise and I felt so rested I could have functioned for another 48 hours straight without needing to rest again. The fire that had once been unbearably painful, now flowed through my veins as if it had always been there under the surface, but just beyond my reach until now. Thinking further about how it felt to have access to these new powers, whatever they were, maybe they hadn’t been given to us, but had been unlocked within us. We had always had them, we just couldn’t access them. I felt like my head was spinning as I tried to understand everything and decided to take a break from the angelic power trip and figure out what our kiss meant last night besides just trying to stay alive.  Looking around, I realized I was in my room with Gabe, who had wrapped himself around my body as if he were trying to form a cocoon around us. Smiling at how sweet he was to have brought me to my room after I collapsed on the terrace and then stay with me all night, I slowly wrapped a leg over his and pulled him even closer to me. At this point we were pressed together so tightly that I could have fit four more people in the bed with us. I probably should have given him his space, but he was just so damn hot, and everything that I wanted even if it taken me so long to realize it.              I had been slowly brushing his newly white-blonde hair away from his face and he began to stir a few seconds later, and I snuggled my face deeper into the crevice between his pecs. His chest rose and fell a few times as he began to wake up and I felt him rub his hands up and down on my back. Leaning back to see his face, I met his eyes and smiled. We had survived the night, gained new powers to explore and a future for both of us that I knew we would figure out… together.  ~~The End~~ {Stay tuned for more info about Vol. 2 of The Nephilim Chronicles, and thanks for reading! :) }
