Chapter 6: The Truth Comes Out
The phone call left me sitting on the edge of my bed completely stunned. It was 6:00 AM and my heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. Everything the lawyer Lucas Santos said matched perfectly. My full name, my mother’s name, our exact address, even details about the twins. This was real. Not a prank. Not a scam. My entire life had been built on a lie, and the foundation had just crumbled in a single conversation.
I stood up quickly, still wearing the same clothes from yesterday that still carried the faint scent of Lila’s p***y and the filthy bathroom s*x, and rushed down the short hallway to Mom’s room. I pushed the door open without knocking, the hinges creaking loudly in the quiet apartment.
“Mom, wake up right now,” I said, my voice tight and urgent. “We need to talk. This is serious.”
She stirred in bed and blinked at me sleepily, sitting up slowly while rubbing her eyes. “Matteo? What is going on? It is so early in the morning. Are you okay? Did something happen after you went to bed? You seemed so tired last night after dinner.”
I stayed standing, arms crossed over my chest, staring at her. “A lawyer just called me. He said my father Antonio De Santos is dead. That he has been alive this whole time and died one week ago. He knew everything about us. He knew the twins’ names, our apartment number, even my exact birthday. He is sending a car at 10 AM. Tell me the truth. All of it. You lied to me my entire life.”
Mom’s face went completely pale, the color draining from her cheeks in an instant. She looked down at her hands for a long moment before letting out a heavy sigh that seemed to carry years of guilt. “Sit down please. This is going to be hard to hear.”
“I do not want to sit down. I want answers,” I replied sharply, my patience already wearing thin.
She nodded slowly and began speaking, her voice trembling. “Your father did not die. We divorced when you were only two years old. I made a terrible mistake. I cheated on him. He came home early from one of his long business trips and caught me in bed with another man. It destroyed our marriage instantly. His family already hated me because I came from nothing and they saw me as beneath them. They pushed him hard to leave me. He said he was doing it to protect you from the dangerous world he lived in. He sent money for years but eventually the contact stopped completely. I told you he died because I was ashamed and scared. I thought it was better for you to believe that than to know the truth about what I had done.”
I felt the anger rising hot in my chest as I listened, my hands clenching into fists at my sides. But she was not finished. Her eyes filled with tears as she continued.
“There is more,” she said quietly, her voice breaking. “The man I cheated with… he was the twins’ father. His name was Victor. We had an affair and I got pregnant with Emma and Sophia. When your father found out everything, Victor ran away too. He left all of us behind. I raised you and the girls alone. I have carried that guilt for years, every single day, wondering if I had ruined all of your lives with one selfish decision.”
The betrayal hit me like a punch to the gut. I stepped back, my hands shaking with rage and disbelief. “The twins’ dad? You cheated with their father and ruined our family? All this time I have been struggling, getting bullied in school for my size, losing job after job because women stare and men get jealous. I have been humiliated constantly because of this monster between my legs. And you were hiding this? My real father was alive, rich and powerful, while we lived like this because of your mistake?”
Tears filled Mom’s eyes and spilled down her cheeks. “I am so sorry, Matteo. I thought I was protecting all of you. His world is full of crime and danger. Mafia. Violence. Blood on the streets. Enemies who would use you against him. I did not want that life for you or the girls. I wanted you to have a normal childhood, even if it was hard and we had to scrape by.”
“Protecting us?” I laughed bitterly, pacing back and forth in her small bedroom like a caged animal. “You destroyed us. You cheated with the twins’ father, got pregnant with them, and then lied to me for twenty one years about my own dad. The twins do not even know their real father ran away because of you. I have been carrying the weight of being different my whole life while my real father had private jets and billions of dollars. How could you do this? How could you look me in the eye every day and lie about something so big?”
Mom reached out toward me, her hand trembling. “Please try to understand. I was young and lonely. Your father was always working, gone for weeks at a time on business I never fully understood. I made one horrible decision and it cost us everything. Do not go with these people today. Stay here with us. The twins need their big brother. We can keep living our simple life. Money is not worth losing yourself to that world.”
I pulled away from her touch, my anger boiling over. “You cannot decide anything for me anymore. You have already ruined everything with your lies and your cheating. First you destroy my father’s marriage, then you hide the truth from me while I suffer every single day. I am going. I need to see what my father left behind. I need to understand who I really am.”
Mom’s tears flowed freely now. “Matteo, please listen to me. I was so lonely back then. Your father was gone for months sometimes. I felt invisible. Victor was there. He listened. One thing led to another and I made the worst mistake of my life. When your father caught us I saw the pain in his eyes. He loved you so much. He said the mafia life would eat you alive. He chose to stay away to keep you safe from the enemies he had made. I lied because I could not bear to tell you that I was the reason your father left. I could not tell the twins that their father was a coward who ran when things got hard. I thought if I said he was dead you would not ask questions. You would not hate me.”
I stopped pacing and glared at her. “Hate you? I do hate what you did. You cheated. You got pregnant with the twins. You let us struggle while my real father lived in luxury. Every time I got fired because some woman could not stop staring at my c**k or some man got jealous you knew the truth. You knew there was a world where my size might not be a curse. You knew and you said nothing.”
“I was scared,” she whispered. “Scared of losing you to that life. Scared of what the mafia would turn you into. I saw the money he sent at first. I used it to keep us fed and clothed. But when the payments stopped I told myself it was for the best. We had each other. The twins adore you. They look up to their big brother. Emma and Sophia would be devastated if you left. Do not throw away the family we built because of my mistakes. Stay. We can figure out the money problems together like we always have.”
I shook my head. “The family we built is based on lies. The twins deserve to know the truth too. My father deserves for me to at least see what he left behind. You do not get to keep controlling the story. You lost that right when you decided to lie for twenty one years.”
Mom kept pleading. She reminded me of specific memories. The time we all stayed up late making cookies for the twins’ birthday. The way I protected them from bullies at school. The nights she worked double shifts so I could have new shoes. She cried harder when she talked about how proud she was of the man I had become despite everything. She begged me to think about the danger. “The mafia is not a game, Matteo. People die. Enemies come after families. I do not want that for you or the girls.”
The argument went back and forth for a long time. She listed every sacrifice. I countered with every humiliation I had endured because of my size and our poverty. The conversation was raw and painful. Eventually I could not take any more. “Enough. I have heard enough.” I turned and stormed out of her room, slamming the door hard behind me. The sound echoed through the quiet apartment like a gunshot.
Back in my own room I stripped off my clothes and stepped into the shower. The hot water poured over me as I tried to process everything. I scrubbed my body hard, trying to wash away the anger and the feeling of betrayal. My massive c**k hung heavy between my legs, a constant reminder of all the problems it had caused me over the years. The bullying, the firings, the way women looked at me with hunger and fear at the same time. I had spent years ashamed of it, jerking off alone in this same shower after every humiliating job loss. Now it felt like part of a bigger destiny I did not yet understand. By the time I finished showering, dried off, and changed into clean dark jeans and a button up shirt, it was nearly 9:30 AM.
Mom was waiting for me in the living room when I came out. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying. The twins were still asleep in their shared room, completely unaware of the bombshell that had dropped on our family.
“Matteo please think about this,” she begged again, her voice desperate and hoarse. “This world destroyed our family once already. Do not let it take you away from us. You do not know what you are walking into. Stay here where it is safe with me and your sisters.”
I looked at her coldly, the anger still burning. “Safe? This apartment, these constant struggles, your lies? That is not safety. You ruined our family when you cheated with the twins’ father and then spent my whole life hiding the truth. I am done letting your mistakes control me. I am going to claim what is mine.”
She tried one last time, listing every reason to stay, her voice cracking as she spoke about the dangers of mafia life, the enemies my father must have had, the fear of losing me like she had lost everything else. I tuned most of it out. My decision was final.
At exactly 10:00 AM the sound of powerful engines filled the street outside. I looked through the window. A gleaming white Rolls-Royce Phantom led a convoy of five black SUVs with dark tinted windows. They parked smoothly along the curb like they owned the whole neighborhood. Doors opened in unison and several men in sharp black suits stepped out, scanning the area with professional precision.
Mom’s face went completely white. “Oh my god…”
A tall, muscular man with salt-and-pepper hair and a scar along his left cheek approached our door. He knocked firmly. I opened it before Mom could stop me.
“Matteo Rossi,” the man said in a deep, respectful voice. “I am Marco Vitali, your father’s second-in-command for more than twenty years. Lucas Santos sends his regards. The convoy is ready. We have a lot to discuss on the way to the estate.”
Mom appeared behind me and grabbed my arm tightly, her nails digging in. “He is not going anywhere with you!”
Marco looked at her calmly but with clear authority. “Mrs. Rossi, with respect, this is your son’s decision now. Antonio left very specific instructions. The empire, worth over one hundred billion dollars, is his to inherit. Properties across the country, private jets, legitimate businesses, underground operations, and more. He needs to see it for himself.”
I gently removed Mom’s hand from my arm. “I am ready.”
She started crying again, pleading desperately as I grabbed my wallet and phone. “Please Matteo. Think about your sisters. Think about everything we have been through together. The twins look up to you. Do not leave us behind.”
“I have thought about it,” I replied firmly. “You made your choices long ago. Now I am making mine.”
I walked out the door without looking back. The morning sun glinted off the luxury vehicles. Neighbors were staring openly from their windows and balconies, whispering to each other. I climbed into the back of the Rolls-Royce, the buttery leather seats enveloping me in comfort I had never known. Marco joined me inside while the drivers returned to the SUVs.
As the convoy pulled away smoothly, Marco handed me a thick folder filled with documents and photographs.
“Your father was a great man,” he said quietly, his voice carrying genuine respect. “He never forgot about you. He kept tabs on you from a distance, making sure you were safe even if he could not be in your life. Welcome to your real life, Matteo. This is only the beginning.”
I looked out the window as our old apartment building disappeared behind us. My old life was over. Ahead waited unimaginable wealth, power, dangerous secrets, and truths I was only beginning to discover. The anger toward Mom still burned hot in my chest, but so did a new sense of purpose. And somewhere in the back of my mind, thoughts of Emma and Sophia lingered. My sisters. My family. Whatever came next, I knew everything was about to change.
