We left the dungeon of the palace through a great gate at the back. As the front was too heavily guarded. But leaving the dungeon was not to be a task without battle.
“You, again!” One of the guards said having caught us on our escape mission.
He drew his sword and came forward grunting and growling. He made a quick swing at my throat but I managed to dodge. He came again this time with more force.
As he motioned towards me, within a split second, his head fell off his body, blood splashed out from his throat and his entire body collapsed. It. was a terrifying sight to behold but well deserved for such a cruel being.
The lady came up from behind him with a curved blade that had now been stained with blood.
“Don’t panic, you may be seeing worse deaths than this before we get to the shadow wood forest, where the enchanter resides. Don’t just stand there, come on”
“Who are you?” I couldn’t help but ask for I had never seen a woman take away the life of a man in such brave and ruthless manner.
“The name is Lily, and don’t bother I already know who you are.”
“Lily, such a soft name for a fearless woman like you. And wait how do you know me?”
She turned to me and gave a somewhat wide and cheerful smile.
Another guard emerged from the corridors of the dungeon.
“Let’s save the talk for later, love.”
“You, I will kill you this day!”
He ran towards us, lifted his axe and dropped it in an attempt to shatter our skulls, but this mysterious lady pushed me away.
She slid between the thighs of the guard and fixed her blade in the stomach of the guard and slit it open, his organs were visible, still pumping but falling out.
I couldn’t behold this one.
“Is there not a better way to send a living being to his creator?”
“Anybody at the service of the cruel Alpha of this pack does not deserve a better death”
“Odessa, can’t you run any faster? You know it gets easier to see why you failed at all your escape attempts.” Lily said letting out a chuckle at the end of statement.
“I don’t care but whatever your plan is, don’t let us get caught. You’ll die first if it happens.”
“That, not a problem. I’ll get you out of here safe and sound.”
“I hope so.”
We had passed probably all the guards that kept the back gate of the palace but we couldn’t have escaped the whole town as the back gate led to the market place.
We stood there between the palace and the market place. By this time we had drawn more attention: from the other members of the pack and from the palace guards.
They all came running towards us with weapons and rage and I tripped when I sighted the Alpha in the midst of them. He seemed angrier and more desperate than I had ever seen.
“Lily! What do we do now? And what are you doing?
“Shhh, quiet. I am trying to focus.”
She drew circles in the air with her fingers and made some incantations. Her gaze was fixed and her countenance had changed. She appeared to be more focused on what she was doing than anything else. But she appeared to take too long.
I had dodged a couple of arrows and by this time they were no longer humans chasing humans, they were wolves chasing humans.
“Odessa, get in.”
The circle she was drawing in the air had come to life with lightning forming the circumference. The circle had grown bigger and appeared to lead somewhere outside the home of the Red wood pack. I had never seen anything like it.
“Wow, so magic was involved?”
“Just get in!” She pushed me in, jumped in herself and the portal closed immediately. With an arrow managing to get in with her.
*****
“Why did you have to put me through all that if you could have just opened a portal while in the dungeon?”
“Why do I sense ingratitude? You are lucky your alive and you should be thanking me for saving you.”
“Yeah, but you could have made it easier.”
“Well, sorry but magic, particularly the opening of doors between locations does not work that way.”
I held a long gaze at her as many questions ran through my mind now.
“Wait, Who are you?”
“You’ve asked that question multiple times. My name is Lily and the enchanter has sent me to you.”
“That is not in the slightest way a satisfying answer.”
“Well, I guess you’ll have to hold on to that one until the enchanter has met with you.”
“At least you know I’m on your side.” She added.
“I am not coming with you to anywhere unless you tell me who you are and what you want from me. I am free now and I can go anywhere I want to you know.”
“Look here, don’t try anything funny now, okay?”
“Not unless you tell me who you are, who the enchanter is and what you both want from me.”
“I am not the one who seeks for you, the enchanter is. Have you ever heard of the enchanter, her name is Ethel.”
“Of course, famous through the entire village, Ethel the enchanter. I have heard a lot of tales about her growing up, but shouldn’t she be too busy to look for an omega like me? This makes it even harder to believe you.”
“Now why should I trust you?” I asked.
“Because I saved your dying…!”
“Because she tells you nothing but the truth.”
An old lady had just emerged from seemingly nowhere in the woods, holding a staff in her hands, her outward look was one befitting of the name and title. I had no doubts she was the one.
“Come with me. You are at the verge of fulfilling destiny.”
