Chapter 1

1992 Words
In the recording studio everything was in order. Cameramen have their respective tests to check that everything was fine while the lighting team focused on their own. Veronica had nothing to worry about. She knew that her team was excellent and she… well, she was a star journalist, without a doubt. One of the best at her job. This day was different, it wouldn’t be just any interview; that’s what made her so nervous. Thirty minutes… it was only thirty minutes and everything would start, she would have to see her again. Her heart was pounding, it was the first time that she would interview her best friend: the successful Samantha Landers, a renowned surgeon, a fervent activist in the fight against breast cancer. But what made Veronica so nervous was not the time she had without seeing her old friend, there was such a delicate subject that they had to deal with. - Go to your places – announced production-, we start in fifteen minutes, Vero. She nodded and headed toward the stage. Her hands were sweating from anxiety and she felt as if her heart was pounding in her head. She felt her brain about to explode and imagined that the vein that crossed her forehead collapsed and burst, causing a source of blood to come out of her… ok, no. Veronica smiled at that wild thought. She was definitely watching too many fiction movies. She settled into one of the armchairs in the small simulated hall in the study, took a deep breath: one, two, three times. Samantha probably had arrived. This topic was crucial for both, personal lives and their career. With the subnormal society where we live and the constant discrimination by the religious, the LGBT community was constantly singled out, accused and harassed. Today’s broadcast could: end their program definitively or raise the rating and provide a little help to those people who felt excluded from the world because they had a different s****l preference than what was considered normal. - We are ready, Veronica – announced the producer-, start when you want. - Good – she smiled-, let’s begin. Veronica stood up in the middle of the stage. It was time, she was nervous, but she would not let it to beat her. Today’s episode was to measure up, like the previous ones. - Good evening, my dear viewers! –she began-, welcome to our program: Taboos, where what seems forbidden and aberrant is more normal than you think. Today, we will discuss an important issue in our society, an issue that affects us more than it should: Homosexuality. >> Some people think that homosexuals are made and despite the fact that various studies have published that they are born, all opinions are valid as long as the individual not disrespected, however, whenever we see a homosexual on the street we point out, discriminate or exclude them. Some even believe that AIDS is divine punishment for them. Have we ever thought about what these people may feel about it? >> Today we have many straight people fervently supporting their gay friends and family. Not only do they fight hand in hand with them for their rights, but they openly support them without fear of being equally rejected. To develop this theme, we have invited the famous surgeon Samantha Landers who, as you know, has been actively mixed with campaigns in support of the fight against breast cancer. Please welcome her with a loud applause! The door opened to give way to the guest. Veronica felt everything start to idle. She saw the figure of Samantha entering the recording studio, the backlight only drawing her silhouette until, with a slow pace for Vero's perception, she got closer. Her curly and jet black hair carelessly fell to her shoulders, her honey eyes fell on the presenter and made her lose herself in them. Her delicate features, subtly pronounced and her full lips outlined in red to highlight them more, invited any hormonal being to savor the desire to touch them. Her well defined body fiercely invited to discover it while her smooth walk fueled her fine flirting. Samantha could be the embodiment of the very Goddess of beauty. Veronica smiled at her and greeted her with a kiss on the cheek. Her friend was still the same delicate girl she had met on a trip a few years ago. She had not prepared an interview model, she already knew that with her things would arise alone, spontaneous and literally perfect. She invited her to take a seat and they began their programming. - Samantha –she spoke while smiling at her-, before you became a famous surgeon, you suffered great discrimination from many people, including family members. Could you tell us about this? -Sure -she smiled back-, for the general population there is nothing special about two women walking hand in hand or with arms folded. Wow, what good friends, some often think. Not bad, the act itself shows a certain intimacy for both friends and couples. The problem of society lies when it deduces that this touch goes further, covering each space of the skin. - Excellent –the producer announces to Veronica through the earpiece-, the rating is increasing. Keep it that way and sure we set a record today. - All of us, in our life, had a forbidden and even platonic love; perhaps because it is not reciprocated, because we are ashamed to express it or because we know that socially it will be judged and demonized. As if loving was something bad, something illegal, immoral or prohibited, something that has been created by demons and it is not. Love is a divine creation, a feeling that God put on Earth to invade our hearts and guide us on the path of happiness. >> Many people say that happiness is in oneself and I do not take away their reason, but sharing it with someone transforms your life into something more enjoyable. "Everything you do, do it with love and it will turn out well", that was always the secret of my success. However, all our little hearts deserve to have at their side someone who values them, not who promises not to break it, but who, if it hurts, tries to heal it instead of giving it more wounds. We all dream of a love from the most fantastic Disney movie, but ... Why should love be only between people of the opposite s*x? In this equation, procreation is not equal to love. >> Me, I am Samantha Landers, a medical surgeon, I do not need to mention the number of awards and recognitions that I have won, nor the workshops that I have dictated. Everyone knows my name but not everyone knows that at night when I sleep, next to me is the most incredible being on the planet. A being who fell from heaven to stay by my side and fill my life with her light and joy, the most wonderful and incredible person you can meet. That person is my girlfriend. Veronica felt the tension emanating from the paid public that the channel had for these programs. The deathly silence that invaded the room was atypical. In general, the studio was somewhat lively, one or another comment within that crowd, some smile, nervous laughter ... but now the only thing that invaded that room was complete silence. >> Yes, at first they pointed us out, discriminated against us, but we had each other and that was enough. She is an actress, currently very famous. I am a surgeon, relatively with the same fame. Both of us always had a single thought in our minds: “It's not the same thing that people say: look, there goes that lesbian. To comment: do you know that this doctor is a lesbian? Yes, but she is a doctor!”. What about this? It is so that everyone can see that we are human, that we can be great, just like heterosexual people. We can have professions or trades, develop in the world of arts and entertainment, we can also do great things. But above all, we have feelings, like you or anyone who watches this program. >> We are not rocks, nor are we robots. We cannot be treated as mentally ill when there are straight men r****g women and children on the street. Homosexuals are discriminated against, while heterosexuals are also not saved from being a plague for humanity. I like to be respected, not with this I ask that you share my s****l preferences. I do not share those of a heterosexual, but I respect them. We all have the right to be with whomever we wish, regardless of the gender. Neither is purer than the other, since being true love is totally pure. - However -Veronica participated-, discrimination has gone a long way, my dear. Look, there are people who attack homosexuals because they do not admit that beings with such differences can exist. Homophobia today is also abnormally common. - Yes, but I, in particular, consider homophobic people to be frustrated homosexuals -Samantha draws a victory smile on her lips-. Look, usually, what we criticize the most in other people is what bothers us about ourselves and we don't want to admit it. Then someone else comes and reflects it to us. The same with homophobes, if you were not worried about your s****l condition, why would you feel threatened by a homosexual? Other more out of date say that: "if we were all homosexual, where would the human race be?" Well, not everyone is gay first, so that's just silly to deflect your frustrations. Second, only a minimum percentage in all the functions of a woman is to procreate. And finally, not all women were born to be mothers, remembering that giving birth is not the same as being a mother; The same thing that often applies to pregnant women does not make you a father. -It makes sense -Veronica weighed, stroking her jaw, thinking about the words Samantha had uttered. This program would be a success, a great controversy was forthcoming. It excited her- but, Samantha, has this ever affected your relationship with her? - Not at all -she smiled as she shook her head-, at first we did have certain debates about what would be right and what would not. We do not support debauchery, that there are heterosexual or homosexual couples almost having s*x on the street, we do not support it. Holding hands, a kiss, a caress, does not have to be wrong. Respect is the basis of all coexistence and if you aspire to improve this society, you must learn to coexist. >> A lot of things we reject is because we don't understand them, for example: my partner and I are feminine; we love dresses, heels, perfumes, looking good, delicate, etc. And, although we do not understand the people who change their appearance and despite this sometimes they are not satisfied, we respect them because we are all part of the same community, of the same ecosystem. Tolerance for change and what is considered different is the basis of respect. - Excellent -Veronica smiled-, but let's go to the commercials for a moment and soon we will continue with our programming. We'll be back! Vero approached Samantha and gave her a big hug. Both friends were watching each other, complicit in that television evil. They knew that the programming would cause controversy, although it would not lower the rating. Just as they also knew that while a certain audience would be indifferent, others would touch their senses, but now the strongest part would come, their masterpiece. - Now we will tell your story -Veronica smiled enthusiastically-. - Ours -Samantha argued-, because it's both mine and hers. - What's the worst that can happen? - In my life, nothing. Only the love we have communicates us, Veronica. I am happy just knowing that she thinks of me, lives in me ... and that she will always have love from me.
