~Damien~
“Knock, knock Charming! Couldn't wait to savour this moment” a voice was heard behind my bedroom door.
It was Francesca. She seldom delayed coming over whenever I needed her around my mansion. From the look I got at the reception, I knew she was far from understanding my explanation of what had occurred today.
Honestly, it was obvious that she wasn't having any of it. I almost dropped my jaw when she walked into the hall looking like she was supposed to be the bride. I tried to comment on it but she quickly switched the topic.
“Hey, lady in white” I grinned. I really needed to lighten up my mood in spite of the ongoing ceremony. I didn't want to think too much about the fact that I was getting married.
“What?” Francesca snapped.
“Easy, easy there. I already told you that I didn't agree to this”
“You had the option to elope with me. I would have gladly run off with you” she started getting sentimental.
“Frances, you know that I can't do that.”
“But you didn't even try” she looked at me and quickly looked away.
“Can we not do this right now, at least not right here? The guests are trooping in and then there's the media”
“So you're ashamed to talk to me now in public? I hate what this marriage is already turning you into” she was near sobbing at this point.
I had to let silence speak on my behalf. I really didn't know how to handle Francesca right now and I didn't want to remind her that she was still my secretary.
“Hey” I whispered. She didn't look at me.
“Hey” I tried again. She turned around this time.
“What's with the… white gown?” I hesitated with the mention of the word ‘white’. I didn't want to express my amusement so she would shoot me dead with her look.
“Since you didn't elope with me, I can as well be the bride on my terms and in history. Now that you noticed, we should get a picture.” she smirked mischievously.
I half-heartedly let the photo be taken by a nearby photographer before the guests got suspicious.
“Happy now?” I asked.
“Let's just get it over with,” she whispered under her breath. “I already can't wait for this day to end and I'm still yet to witness every heartbreaking moment of this wedding”
“You know we're still together right?”
She gave me a wide toothed smile.
“Now, go get Janelle and let's get this over with” I winked.
Now that we're over with the pretense, I was happy to betray whatever Janelle thought of a wedding night.
“What's going on?” Janelle asked tightly. She really couldn't hide her shock and I was having a blast.
“Come in, one and only” I gestured romantically, completely ignoring her.
I am so eagerly anticipating how far she could get with her reaction.
“I ask again, what is going on?” was the next thing she said. What a delight.
I took a good look at her and smiled. “Your facial expression right now is giving everything it should. Picture worthy. I should probably take a shot and frame it”
“Oh you should, Damien!” Francesca let out a shrill excited cry as she walked further in.
“Oopsie, didn't know you would still be in here, Madam Janelle” Francesca mockingly said. She really understood her assignment.
“I don't know what you two are up to, but I am not getting my night ruined more than my day already was”
“Damien, I think you should let her know already. She's too oblivious of the situation. She's probably not smart enough to decipher what we have. Not our fault she has her nose stuck up in experiments. Lol.” Francesca smirked. Her voice dripped with sarcasm.
Of course, we, no, I would set the rules around here and I'd make sure Mrs. Carter has a hard time while I'm at it.
“Sure Frances, Janelle…” I cleared my throat as I briefly held my nose while looking down, letting out a breath. I wanted the suspense to be dramatic.
“Janelle, for starters, this is how things would work around here, okay? Our dad's got what they wanted. Fine! We're both in this marriage but we don't have to act like it in private, do we?”
“Really?” Janelle raised her voice. It was obvious that she was dripping with disgust. I like that I could predict this moment.
“you are many things that I dislike but I have just added shameless to the list. We don't have to act out in private but at least I’m not the one who brought my girlfriend or mistress or whatever she is to our bedroom” she stressed the"our ".
OKAY. What?
I wasn't entirely surprised at her response but I couldn't help but feel a pinch of guilt at how she described the situation.
But no. Not tonight. No room for guilt.
“Whatever Janelle” Francesca broke the brief moment of silence. She was daring about it and this was exactly what I wanted.
Francesca got closer to me as I sat on the bed. She gently grabbed my face with both hands and put her right knee on my thigh.
Hmm, now we're talking.
I turned to face Janelle quickly, not wanting to miss the expression on her face. Haha! Someone's about to reach boiling point.
“Damien, you're so cute. Uhmm hey Janelle, you might want to step into the shower and run the water for thirty minutes straight or take a tour around this glorious palace you only got the privilege to be in because of your dad. Yup, I'm doing you a favour, ‘cause things are about to get really steamy in this zone” she laughed hysterically.
Janelle took off the rings from her finger, and started walking towards the door.
I couldn't let this end her way.
I gently pulled away from Francesca and moved towards Janelle.
“Yea, before we say our good night, you should know that Francesca would stay here with me. That means…” I said, leaning closer to her and resting my elbow on the door.
“That means you would be staying at the east wing tonight. I don't expect to be disturbed. If you want to run the house alongside me, you better start exploring.”
Now I looked into her dark brown eyes and said “You’ll find the east wing very… lonely“ I smiled slightly, enjoying her attempt to conceal her shock.
I led her out the door and closed it on the sight of her standing there.
