Episode III

My brother wasn’t back before I left his house. I’d written him a note telling him about my plans to travel and asking him not to worry. I promised to call him often and to be in touch even if I wasn’t here anymore. I had lied and promised to be back soon but surely I could pull something off and push the day of my return until they finally understood I wouldn’t be coming back. I would’ve loved to tell him about it in person but I couldn’t stay any longer, I didn’t have much time left. Not if I wanted to leave before the start of their mating ceremony and Iliana’s coronation. I checked the permit on the passenger seat, adjusted my seatbelt and started driving. Today’s guards were old train buddies of mine so I only had to show them the paper and they’d let me out without asking any further questions. It was morning. I was tired and starting to nod off. I had to stop unless I wanted to be on the news for a car accident. I stopped by a hostel on the side of the road. I rented a room and headed to it. Maybe it would be a good idea to buy a ticket instead of driving all the way to the council’s headquarters. That way I could… “Are you stupid or what?” A yell around the corner interrupted my thoughts. What was going on? Two drunk people were arguing right across the one that was supposed to be my room. They were tall, and definitely needed to do some exercise. Should I stop them? I didn’t think they could harm each other with those muscles, if they could be called that way. It wasn’t really my place to do so, but then again, I wouldn’t be able to sleep if they didn’t stop. “My team is better than those clowns you follow” the blond guy said, pushing the brown haired. Goddess, I hated stupid fights like those. Why couldn’t they just respect each other's opinions? “Stop fighting unless you want me to call the manager and the police” I said, uninterested. “You have no right to get between us, Missy. Unless you want to give us something else to focus on” Disgusting. There was no other way to describe his insinuation, looking at me with that filthy expression. I sighed. “I think you’re grown enough to know better than to harass a woman in need of her beauty sleep,” I said, approaching my door “So shut up and go fight somewhere else unless you want me to show you not to mess with said -missies-” “Pretty rude for a p***y” He said, grabbing my arm and turning me around to corner me. My instincts jumped in action and I moved without thinking, kicking him in the shin and releasing my hand in one go. Letting go of my bag without a care. I grabbed his hair once he was bent in half and smiled, making him look at me. “What did you just say?” “I’m sorry” He cried. “That’s what I thought. Now, get lost. I really need to rest.” Both of them left. I turned around to open the door and picked up my bag, noticing the wet stain on the floor. Did I have anything in my bag that could…? Fuck! The vials. I was still missing 4 days of this “bond-breaking” treatment and the anesthetic was gone. “This has to be a joke” I knew I could go back and ask for more in the pack but then I’d have to leave again and … The pain couldn’t be that bad, right? The fever woke me up, I was burning. So much that it was affecting my senses. I was dizzy and could barely stand up. I needed to get to the shower. Now. I looked around the room and sweared. Why hadn’t I rented the room with a private bathroom? Damn my stupid wish to save money. I searched for the key and once I had it. I headed to the reception, taking my bag with me, if I was going to be feeling this way for the next 6 days, I might as well need to stay here. Only until the bond was gone for good. But I needed a room with a bath. I started walking slowly down the corridor, focusing on every step. Halfway through, I saw the same guys from earlier, I cursed. I was in no shape to deal with them and surely they would take advantage of that. I took a turn, it would be an unnecessary extra walk but it was better than to give them even the slightest chance to take advantage of the situation. I bumped into something then, or someone. It was hot. So much that I whined before I was able to stop myself from doing it. It felt like touching a stove with my head. “Careful there” the deep voice confirmed it was a person indeed. “Sorry” I whispered, feeling my guts contract as if I’d been kicked by a warrior of the pack. “Ugh” The pain was getting worse by the second. Goddess forbid it was only the fever, at this rate I would even consider going back to get those vials. I crouched, holding the wall on my side and covering my mouth to stop the vomit burning down my throat. “Hey, are you ok?” The guy crouched beside me and touched my forehead, making me feel like I was being stung by bees “Goddess! You’re burning up” I screamed in pain and then it all went black.
