Emperor Lucifer was not as tall as she had expected, but he had broad shoulders and a large chest that made him imposing nonetheless. His gray hair was combed back from his creased forehead, and he had pale green eyes and a prominent, but slightly hooked nose with flaring nostrils. For some reason, Vienna felt he might be sniffing her and was not at all pleased.
The emperor stared, taking in every inch of her appearance, but Vienna caught no sign of recognition in his gaze. He seemed coolly distant and superior and, after a moment, bored. Perhaps he did not care for her scent and thought her to be a fast food meal when he was accustomed to fine dining.
Nevertheless, Queen Anne beamed as she faced the court. "It is my pleasure to announce Emperor Lucifer, who hails from the west."
