Lucas's hand pressed against her chest, fingertips digging in. As he sought to get a hold of her, Vienna stood as still as a stone, but her mind was fighting back, doing what she could not physically. She felt her power again. Concentrating hard, she rolled her hands into fists, and she felt energy surging out of her. Her body rocked from the force of launching it. She stumbled backward, into the wall, eyes flying open. Alex was still standing with his stake poised. But he did not dare move. The prisoner was swaying on his feet. He dropped his arm to his sides and looked at them as though he had never seen them earlier. Then he looked up and looked at Vienna. Her heart stopped as his gaze flicked over her face. But his eyes did not register her. It was as though he did not see her at all.
