LUCA’S POV Felicia called twice before I even made it to the office. I saw the missed calls and my thumb quit moving, right there mid-scroll, like the phone had gone heavier in my hand than a phone's got any business being. I set it face-down on the desk. Didn't call back. Didn't look at it again until the reports were done — border checks, the northern supply numbers, a water complaint from one of the eastern families that had been sitting in the queue two weeks because nobody had bothered to go out and look at it.
