Chapter 07
Serena Martin
Nath took us to an unfamiliar place, like before. On our way there, I already warned my family not to touch or say anything once there. I got off first and decided to talk to Nath.
"I like to talk to him," I told her without beating around the bush.
Nath just smiled at me. "Later you will, Miss. He wants you to celebrate with your family first, so he prepared something for you to share with them. Please have fun and take your time."
"But, will we really get married right away? I'm still not ready. How—"
"If you have any questions regarding that, I'm afraid only the boss can answer you. Please go on or else the food will get cold. Enjoy the day with your family, Miss Martin."
I pursed my lips and failed to protest. Why do I even bother when what he said four months ago was clear? That he'll see me exactly four months later?
Nath left me to talk to my family while I looked around the private resort where she took us. My siblings excitedly explored the place despite my warning, and I just sighed in defeat. Can I blame them when it's the first time they see a place like this?
I had seen places like this before, but I was still in awe. I wonder if Liam owns this. I wrapped my arms in each of my parents's arms as they began to walk around. There are no other people other than my family and some staff at the place. Nath took us to a room, where we saw a table full of food.
"Wow! Did you prepare all this, Serena?" Oliver asked in surprise, and before I could stop them, he and Jina took a fried chicken from the table.
"Hey! You guys! What did I tell you?" I huffed, and Mom only sighed.
"Oh, don't worry. There is no need to be shy; everything is prepared just for you, so you can eat anything you want," Nath interrupted our mini-fight. "If you want, you can explore the place as well."
I watched as she read something on her phone and left the room, and I quickly followed her. I have so many questions, and I will squeeze the answer out of her if I have to. I didn't get the chance to talk to her when there was a loud horn from outside, and the guard hastily opened the gate. I frowned when all the staff ran, and some even tripped before they made a line, one of them was Nath, who was just a few steps away from me earlier. The car door opened, and a driver wearing a uniform opened the door of the backseat. To my surprise, everybody lowered their heads when the man I didn't want to see stepped out of the car.
I was frozen, and I just stupidly stared at him. I saw his pictures a few times, and I even saw him up close, but who looks more handsome and appealing in my eyes now? He looked younger and calmer. I was still a few meters away from him, but I smelled his muscular fragrance.
Why does he look attractive in my eyes when I should be disliking him?! Maybe because the man's gorgeous, whether I admit it or not.
Before I get lost in my admiration and he catches me, I look away and suddenly find the floor to be interesting. A few seconds passed, and a pair of polished shoes appeared in my line of sight, and I felt a heavy hand on my shoulder.
"Congratulations," he greeted me with that familiar, deep voice of his. I saw how his eyes twitched and the corner of his mouth lifted when he looked down. "Do you like wearing it that much?"
Only then did I remember that I was still wearing my graduation robe. I almost face-palmed. I forgot that I should have returned it. I'm proud of wearing it, but not everywhere I go.
"Uhm, can we talk?" I asked him instead of answering his sarcastic remark.
I feel like I'm just dreaming. I was just thinking of ways to tell my family about him, and he's now in front of me.
"About?"
He didn't want my answer, and he gripped my shoulder. A little tight for my liking. As if it serves as a warning of some sort. He began to walk with me to the room where my family was, and my heart pounded. I'm unsure whether it's because my family is about to meet him or because of the way I could feel the heat radiating from his body at our closeness.
"About—" I didn't get to finish what I was about to say when my name was called.
"Serena!" I turned to see Jina, and I saw how her eyes turned to Liam with curiosity in her eyes. A teasing smile formed on her face, and I knew what she was thinking.
"Hi!" Liam unexpectedly greeted her with a smile on his face. My mouth hangs open in surprise and awe.
His smile this time is in a friendly manner, far from the sarcastic smile he often has.
"Hello," Jina replied bashfully. She gave me a meaningful look, and I widened my eyes at her. To my shock, she ran back inside, and we heard what she said. "Mom, Dad, Serena's boyfriend is here!"
I shut my eyes tightly and almost asked the ground to just swallow me whole. It didn't take long for my family to go outside, and I took a peek at Liam's face. I was mildly relieved and surprised to see no negative emotion on his face.
"Good morning, ma'am, sir," he said, greeting my parents with respect and a warm smile on his face.
My family was all dumbstruck, but I can understand them because that was my reaction before as well.
"Good morning," my dad greeted back, even with a confused look on his face. He stares at me with questioning eyes, but even I don't know where to start.
"Are you really my daughter's boyfriend?" My mom asked Liam in disbelief.
I motioned for my mother to be quiet, and my eyes connected with Liam when he turned to me.
"She's not only my girlfriend, ma'am, because tomorrow, your daughter will be my wife," Liam told them straightforwardly, and I almost lost my balance.
I swallowed the lump in my throat, nervous as to how my family would react or say. I discreetly pinched Liam's arm in annoyance.
How could he break it down to them just like that?!
I have been contemplating how to tell them, but he didn't even get to know them first or whatever! The man did not even beat around the bush!
My parents both looked at me, and I held my breath. I know they'll be mad at me. We just met after years, and I just graduated college, and this is what they found out?
"You will marry my daughter?" My father asked, his eyes sliding from me to Liam. It's clear that he's dumbfounded.
"Yes, sir," Liam replied in all seriousness.
Imagine my surprise when both my mom and dad broke into a huge smile. They should be mad, right? So why...
Why do they look so happy?
"Oh, Serena, you were able to catch someone!"
