Season One – Episode 2
The hum of the office felt louder than usual that afternoon. Sunlight streamed through the glass walls, casting long shadows across my desk. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, but I couldn’t focus. Ethan’s presence was too close—too commanding—and yet somehow too gentle.
He appeared at the doorway just as I pressed the last key of my report. The city skyline framed him perfectly, his silhouette outlined by golden light. For a moment, I thought he was there to criticize my work—but when he smiled softly, the tension in my chest eased slightly.
“You’ve improved this week,” he said. His voice was calm but held an undercurrent of something I couldn’t identify—interest, concern, maybe… something more.
I swallowed hard, unsure how to respond. Compliments from him were rare, and they always felt like secret treasures I wasn’t meant to touch.
“Thank you,” I murmured, keeping my eyes on the screen to hide the blush creeping up my neck.
He stepped closer, leaning against the edge of my desk. The scent of his cologne, subtle but intoxicating, made my head spin. “I noticed you stayed late yesterday,” he said. “I like the dedication.”
I shifted uncomfortably. “I just wanted to finish the Thompson report. It’s important for the presentation next week.”
His gaze softened, but the intensity never left his eyes. “Mira, work is important, yes… but so is knowing when to rest. Don’t burn yourself out.”
There it was again—that strange tug at my heart. He wasn’t just my boss; he was… aware of me in a way that made my chest ache.
Before I could answer, the office door opened. “Mira, Ethan,” our manager’s voice cut through the quiet. “There’s a client call in Conference Room B.”
Ethan’s professional mask returned instantly. “Of course,” he said. “Let’s go.”
As we walked side by side, I felt every inch of space between us shrink. My pulse quickened, my thoughts scattered. Why did I feel so aware of him? Why did a simple glance from him make my stomach flip?
The meeting went smoothly, as expected. Ethan led with precision, his presence commanding attention. I found myself stealing glances at him whenever possible. Every time our hands brushed as we passed documents, my heart jumped. It was maddening, exhilarating, and utterly terrifying.
Later, back at my desk, I tried to shake off the lingering feeling of him. My mind replayed his smiles, his subtle glances, the warmth in his voice. It was professional, yes—but something deeper hovered beneath, something I couldn’t name.
And then, a small envelope appeared on my desk. I looked down to find it, with my name written in Ethan’s precise handwriting. My fingers trembled as I opened it. Inside was a single note:
“You have a rare way of seeing the details others miss. Keep noticing them.”
I smiled nervously, heart racing. Who did that note belong to? A professional acknowledgment? Or something more?
Before I could dwell on it, the elevator dinged, and Ethan appeared again, perfectly timed. He held the door open for me, his gaze meeting mine for a fraction of a second longer than necessary. I tried to look away, but my eyes betrayed me.
He didn’t say anything, only gave a small nod before walking away. My chest tightened. That tiny interaction, that fleeting connection, left me feeling dizzy.
For the rest of the day, I couldn’t focus. Emails blurred. Reports became meaningless. All I could think about was him, the note, and that strange pull I felt toward him.
By the time I left the office, the city was bathed in the warm glow of sunset. I walked along the bustling streets, the sounds of traffic and distant chatter fading into a quiet hum in my mind. And all I could hear was my own heartbeat, racing with the thought that maybe… just maybe… I was crossing a line I wasn’t supposed to.
Because suddenly, the idea of being near Ethan wasn’t just thrilling—it was necessary.
And for the first time, I realized the lines I had carefully drawn between boss and employee were already beginning to blur.
