Rosie’s eyes widened in disbelief at what came out of Lucille’s mouth. It's too good to be true. Her eyes narrowed In confusion being slow to understand. Lucille resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her, still smiling. Rosie asked carefully “You’re telling me your cousin will offer me a one-year contract marriage and all I have to do is accept and sign it?” “Yes, that’s it.” “And I will be free from the Whitsons and my aunt?” Rosie asked. “Yessss.” “And mom will be transferred to another hospital for better treatment?” Lucille nods while holding Rosie’s hand to ease her worry. “Yes, yes and yes.” Rosie stood up and began pacing “But how. What did you do? Did you sacrifice anything for this?” She appears frightened. Anyone in her state would worry. Lucille sighed as she motioned to Rosie to sit down and narrated how it went. Rosie, still not sure but gotten a better understanding of the situation, sighs in relief. “Maybe I can finally sleep better tonight without much worry.” Lucille’s body bounced excitedly “So what do you think?” she wiggled her eyebrows and nudged Rosie who giggled finally for once that day. Rosie’s expression went soft. Her voice cracked with emotion. She had a lot of things she wanted to say at that moment. “Lucille, thank you. I don't have friends but having you is more than enough. You are the best friend I could ever ask for. Thank you” “You're welcome Rosie. I couldn't stand by and watch your life fall apart.” Lucille hugged Rosie without saying anything. The silence spoke volumes but it conveyed a lot of emotions between them. Releasing her from the hug “It’s time to celebrate and I need to tell you stuff about my cousin.” Heather placed her hand on her aching forehead. She already had a splitting headache as the veins were visible on her head. “What do you mean you can’t find her?” Her husband Jeffrey remained silent. He was too pissed to talk. What will they do about this? “I’m sorry ma’am but she escaped.” “Then find her” Jeffrey roared as he stood pacing to and fro. Heather rushed to her husband, “calm down honey they will find her” she tried fearing for his life. The doctor gave him rules because of the hypertension he has that can lead to partial stroke. That’s why he barely talks, shouting is a big no. The man stood where he was uncomfortable. Heather turned to look and saw him still standing there “Get out and do your job.” She yelled at him. Nodding he quickly rushed out. “When next I lay my eyes on Rosie, she’d wish she were dead.” Heather thought angrily. Later that evening as the sun sets behind the horizon. Rosie looked to the sky through the window which was painted in hues of pink and orange. She felt full appreciating nature and knowing her worries were about to come to an end. She got a call from an unknown number. She looked at Lucille who gave her the thumbs up that the number was definitely from her cousin. “Am I speaking to Rosie Brown?” “Um yes,” not expecting the deep voice she heard. “Meet me tomorrow at 9 am. I will send you the details via text message. Don’t be late.” He ends the call without warning. A notification pops on her phone and she reads the message. Lucille inquired as she ate her chips “How did it go?” “Nothing much. He sent me a text message.” “Rosie I need to tell you a few things about my cousin- Theo.” “Ok I’m listening,” she put her phone down looking focused. “This one-year contract marriage isn’t for love. It’s for you to be protected by him. I’m hesitant to say this but please don’t fall in love. He’s not the type to settle down for marriage.” She paused to let that sink in. “Is that all, Rosie asked confused.” She knows he’s helping her because of Lucille. She was grateful for his help and couldn’t ask for more. Supporting her chin to think. She looks at Rosie “I think that’s all for now. Well, you will figure him out as time goes on.” Lucille smiles as she looks at her phone. “Rosie, it's time for me to meet Dennis, mischief evident in her eyes.” Rosie’s mouth was hanging open in a funny way “You guys are dating!?” She asked. “Yes. She looked at Rosie to see her disappointed look. She explained. It hasn’t been long. Just recently. “Still wished you told me," she murmured.” “The timing wasn’t nice when your life was about to fall apart. I’m sorry Rosie.” She stopped in her tracks, “Oh before I forget, Dennis said he will take you out and he’s sorry for not being here for you.” “He better be and I will make sure to empty his pocket on that day. He will regret making this offer.” “Don’t miss me.” She walked over to Rosie and gave her a peck on her cheek. “Bye.” The door closed and Rosie was left alone. Won’t be bad if I do some skincare routine. She yawned as she got up to take her bath and call it a day. Tomorrow’s deal will set her life into perspective and lesser things to worry about. The next day Rosie woke up early and eager. Her eyes took in every ray of light on her face as she felt warm all over. Dancing around as she prepared, she stubbed her little toe on the chair, Rosie winced in pain and continued. Nothing will spoil this day for her. The place she’s to meet Theo is an expensive restaurant. She seized a dainty silk dress that was knee-length. The dress embraced the curve of her body in an elegant style. Satisfied with her makeup and a spritz of perfume, she set off. Rosie arrived at the restaurant just in time and took a seat. She typed away on her phone as she waited for him. Seconds later, she looked up to see a towering figure over her. Lucille never told her her cousin was huge and this hot. His suit and watch could cover her expenses. He sat down in front of her and let his gaze roam over her as he studied her. From her brown hair to her cleavage where his gaze stopped then back at her face. Her breath hitched as she was aware of where his eyes were gazing at. Looking at his features, he had light gray eyes that almost seemed like silver and jet-black hair which made him look god-like. Strands of hair fell on his face. The stubble on his sharp jaw wasn’t helping and then his lips were a menace. He was handsome which radiated a feeling of strongness and wildness. He exuded a rugged masculinity and a mature aura. The only thought going through her head was how he would pin her down whenever he wanted. Ok focus, Rosie admonished herself recalling Lucille’s advice. He motioned to his secretary and he brought him a file. “Let’s get down to business. Shall we?” Rosie nods, not expecting his voice to be this nice. Theo gives her the file to read through. Rosie took her time reading it as he watched her silently. His stare was giving her butterflies and making her uncomfortable. Should she tell him to stop? Stop what is definitely a response she will get from him and make her look stupid. Better sign it to get it over with. Rosie took the pen offered to her and signed hastily. She was a mess inside. Her hand trembled as she returned the pen and it was obvious. She has never been with a man before. It's too much for her. “Are you scared?” He asked. “I’m not.” Rosie retorted while keeping a straight face. She was never going to admit it. Theo signaled to the waiter “You can order anything you want. It’s on me now that you are mine. It’s my duty to protect and take care of you.” He assured her. This is like a dream come true. No one will believe this. She can’t wait to tell Mom. “I’m really grateful for your kindness.”
