Chapter Two: Bound by a Debt

2017 Words
Bound by a Debt Lila stood pressed against the cold wall, her heart beating so fast she thought it might burst out of her chest. The four men surrounded her, filling the large hallway with their heavy presence. She could feel their eyes on her... They were sharp, hungry, and impossible to escape. Everything had happened so fast. Just an hour ago, she was walking home, thinking about tea and a warm bed. Now, she was standing in a huge house that looked like a palace but felt like a cage, facing men who ruled the dark side of the city. She didn’t know what would happen next, but deep down, she knew nothing would ever be the same again. Damian Vance stepped closer, towering over her. He was calm, but there was a cold strength in the way he moved. He looked at her like she was something he had bought and paid for, something that belonged entirely to him. “You must be confused and scared,” he said, his voice steady and low. “But listen carefully. There are things you don’t know about your father, and things you don’t know about the world we live in. Your father was a good man, yes, but he made a big mistake. He needed money for your mother’s hospital bills years ago. He came to us. We helped him. But a deal is a deal. He promised that if he could not pay us back, we would take whatever he had left. That includes you.” Lila shook her head quickly, tears filling her eyes again. “No… that can’t be true. He never said anything. He would never… he would never give me away like that. Please, let me go. I don’t have anything. I’m just a normal girl. I can pay you back, somehow. I can work…” Her voice broke as she spoke. She felt small and helpless, realizing that money meant nothing to these men. They had more wealth than they could ever spend. It was not about the money anymore. It was about the deal, and the fact that Damian had decided he wanted her. Cole Mercer stepped forward, pushing past Damian. He was big, rough, and looked like he enjoyed seeing her afraid. He leaned down, his face close to hers, and she could smell the expensive cologne mixed with the sharp scent of danger. He smirked, looking her up and down like she was a toy he had just been given. “Work?” he scoffed, his voice loud and harsh. “What work could you do that would be worth enough to pay off what your father owed? You think cleaning offices or drawing little pictures is enough? Don’t be stupid, girl. You are not here to work. You are here because we want you. Damian saw your picture and decided you would be ours. And lucky for you, the rest of us agree. You are going to stay right here, with us, and you are going to do exactly what we say.” He reached out and grabbed her chin, holding her face still so she had to look at him. His grip was not painful, but it was tight enough to show her he was in control. “You belong to the Vance family now. And let me tell you something. We are not nice people. We take what we want, and we keep what is ours. You might hate it now, you might fight it, but soon enough, you will learn your place. You will learn to obey us.” Elias Thorne moved next. He was smoother, quieter, and more dangerous in a different way. He walked around her slowly, like he was studying every inch of her. Unlike Cole, he didn’t shout or threaten loudly. He spoke softly, right near her ear, making her shiver. “Don’t listen to Cole’s rough words,” he said, though his tone was full of tricks. “He just likes to scare you. But he is right about one thing... You are ours now. You see, Damian doesn’t share much. Power, money, land… he keeps those things for himself. But you? You are different. You are special. He wants you to be part of this family, part of us. That means you belong to all four of us. We will decide where you go, who you see, and what you do. We will watch you every second of every day.” He paused and looked at her with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “You think this is a nightmare now? It is just the beginning. But if you behave, if you listen, if you accept us… life here can be very good. You will have everything you ever wanted. Nice clothes, good food, safety. Everything except your freedom.” From the side, Gideon Hale finally spoke. He was the quietest of them all, standing back and watching everything with cold, dark eyes. He didn’t move closer, but his deep voice cut through the air. “Stop talking so much,” he said to the others, his eyes fixed on Lila. “She is shaking. She understands. She knows she has no choice.” He looked at her with a hard, unfeeling stare. “You are safe here, as long as you stay inside these walls. Outside, there are enemies, danger, and people who would hurt you just to get to us. You are a prize now, Lila. And prizes are kept locked up safe. You will never leave this estate again.” Lila felt her knees go weak. She slid down the wall until she was sitting on the floor, burying her face in her hands. It was too much to take in. She was trapped. kidn*pped because of an old debt, claimed by four of the most powerful and dangerous men in the state. She hated them. She hated their cold words, their arrogance, and the way they thought they owned her life. But deep inside, under the fear, something else was starting to burn, and it was a feeling of anger. She was not a piece of property. She was a person. She had a life, dreams, and a mind of her own. She looked up at them, wiping her tears away, her eyes hard and fierce. “I am not yours,” she said, her voice shaking but clear. “You can keep me here. You can lock the doors and put guards everywhere. You can force me to stay. But you will never own me. I will never belong to you. I hate you. All of you.” For a second, silence filled the hall. She expected them to be angry, to hurt her, or to shout at her. But instead, something strange happened. Cole’s smirk grew wider. Elias looked pleased, like she had just said something funny or interesting. Damian watched her with a look of deep satisfaction, and even Gideon’s hard face softened just a little bit. Cole knelt down in front of her, his face level with hers. “Oh, you have fire,” he whispered, sounding excited. “That is even better than we thought. We didn’t want a quiet little mouse. We want you. Fight us all you want, little girl. Hate us all you want. It only makes us want you more. It only makes the obsession stronger.” Damian nodded and signaled to the others. “Take her to her room. It is late. Tomorrow, we will talk about the marriage.” Lila’s head snapped up. “Marriage?” she gasped, her eyes wide with shock. “What marriage? I am not marrying anyone!” Damian walked toward the stairs, not even looking back as he spoke over his shoulder. “It is the only way to make it legal. The only way to make sure no one can take you away from us. You will marry me, Lila. But remember, marriage here is not what you see in movies. You are marrying the family. You are marrying all of us. And once you say ‘I do’, there is no divorce, no escape, and no going back. You are bound to us by law, by name, and by blood.” Cole grabbed her arm gently but firmly and pulled her up to her feet. “Come on, wife-to-be,” he teased, enjoying the look of horror on her face. “Let’s show you where you will sleep. Don’t worry, we will be checking on you all night. We have to make sure you don’t try to run. And trust me… we will be watching every move you make.” Elias walked on her other side, guiding her toward a large staircase. “You will get used to it,” he said smoothly. “Soon, you won’t remember what life was like before us. You will wonder how you ever lived without us. And one day, you will realize that you don’t hate us at all. You will realize that you need us, just as much as we need you.” They led her up the stairs and down a long hallway. The house was huge, with many doors and turns, making it easy to get lost. Every step she took felt like she was moving further away from her old life and deeper into their dark world. They stopped in front of a large double door made of dark wood. Gideon opened it and stepped inside first, checking the room quickly, a habit he had from years of danger. When Lila walked in, she was surprised. It was a beautiful room. It was big, bright, with soft carpets and a large bed covered in silk. There was a bookshelf, a dressing table, and big windows. It looked like a room fit for a queen. But when she looked closer, she saw there were no handles on the windows, and the lock on the door was heavy and made of steel. It was a beautiful cage. She turned to face them, standing near the bed. The four men stood in the doorway, filling the space, blocking any way out. They looked at her with eyes full of dark promises and endless want. “This is your room now,” Damian said. “Rest. Tomorrow is a big day. You have a new life to learn, and a wedding to prepare for. And remember this, Lila…” He paused, his voice dropping to a deep, serious tone that sent chills down her spine. “You can fight, you can hate, and you can try to run. But it won’t change anything. We are obsessed with you. We will never let you go. And no matter where you are in this house, in this city, or in this world… we will always find you. You are ours, today, tomorrow, and forever.” They stepped back and closed the heavy doors. Lila heard the loud click of the lock turning. She was alone, but she didn’t feel alone. She could still feel their presence, their eyes, and their power all around her. She walked to the window and looked out at the high walls and the guards standing near the gates. She was trapped. But as she sat on the soft bed, she made a promise to herself. She would not break. She would not give in. She would fight them every single day. But deep down, a scary thought began to grow in her mind. As she looked at the closed door, she realized something terrifying. The way they looked at her, the way they spoke, and the way they acted… it was not just control. It was something much deeper, much darker, and much more dangerous. And worst of all, she had a feeling that this was only the start. The k********g was over, but the real game had just begun. It was a kind of game where they held all the cards, and she was the prize they were already too obsessed to lose.
