In need of a day trip, Philip set out one Saturday morning for Cannery Row in Monterey. He stopped at Little Baja on the way and bought two large terracotta pots for his new garden. Around ten, he pulled into the parking lot of the new and much ballyhooed Monterey Bay Aquarium. Philip spent the first two hours mesmerized by the thick acrylic bay windows, the variety of fish in the inner and outer bay exhibits, and the kelp forest viewed from the second floor. He bought a guidebook and tried to identify as many sea creatures as he could. Later in the restaurant, Philip chose a table where he could see the activity.
