The next day, John called Hugh, Minna and Gwilier to his office and told them to keep the rest of the day free. After he had outlined part of his father’s idea, and told them of his meeting with Lowson, he invited comments. Minna had been fidgeting for some time. “Christ, John,” she burst out, unusually profane. “You shouldn’t have been so direct with Lowson. He’s not family. I’m not happy about this. It exposes you and puts you right on top when it all comes out. And why on earth do we want to get so involved with these two lunatic countries?
