McEwan arrived home, after dropping Kate off at her flat, for what seemed like the first time in weeks. It had been a very long day. The flat smelled stale so McEwan opened the windows and let in the cold night air. He raked through the pile of clothes on the bedroom floor, put on a washing and wondered what to do about food. The doorbell rang. Looking through the peephole he sighed as all hope of a quiet night figuring out how to find the Elohim and maybe a Saturday night pint evaporated. “It"s an unexpected pleasure,” McEwan said as he opened the door. “Almost as much as you calling me, rather than just turning up unannounced,” Kether said. His attire was immaculate, as usual. “I hope you don"t mind, but I"ve not gotten round to tidying up. I wasn"t expecting guests.” McEwan gestur
