A printed copy of the enhanced image of the scroll was waiting in a brown, A4 envelope in McEwan"s pigeonhole, next to the original. Inside the photo quality paper had been folded in half to fit it into the envelope. McEwan took it out and opened it. It was a good photograph of the scroll with each of the characters outlined by a white dashed line. He took it over to his cubicle and began to transcribe the characters, as he had the day this whole situation had begun. A little over a week ago he had been solving the case of his career.
