04. The Loner

"Have you heard the latest news?"

A blonde-haired girl leaned against a nearby tree trunk, both eyes focused on a man not far from her. The girl is an Alpha, her name is Ariel.

There was a loud sound in the hearing of the knife sharpening that the man was doing. He didn't even turn his head to look at Ariel, too focused on his work.

Ariel clucked in annoyance at being ignored. “Liam I'm talking to you! At least say something, isn't this the chance you've been waiting for?!” she said angrily.

"You're being loud, Ariel," Liam finally says, his tone even disinterested.

"Have you heard the news or not?" Ariel repeated her question.

"What news?"

The Alpha girl clucked. "I guessed you didn't know that. What could a loner like you know?!”

Just as fast as lightning flashes, the throwing knife Liam gave to Ariel is also that fast. Liam smiled crookedly as he realized the girl could easily dodge his throw.

"Nice response," Liam said with a small nod.

“You want to kill me?!” screamed Ariel annoyed, her fangs appeared, indicating that the girl was angry. "If I'm late, your knife will stick right in my forehead!"

"But the proof is you can dodge quickly. Then what are you worried about?" Liam replied.

"You are!" Ariel growled for a few moments. It's very annoying to serve annoying men like Liam, but in the end, Ariel can't stay angry with him for long.

The girl tried to control her emotions again, she inhaled and exhaled several times so that her anger would subside quickly. Meanwhile, the man not far from her looked relaxed, as if he had not done anything a moment ago.

“Liam, I'm serious this time, so please take it seriously too. You actually know about the latest news from the Hurwolf Kingdom, right?” The third question Ariel gave to Liam.

Ariel saw Liam's hand movements stop, her ears also caught a short sigh from the man.

"I have heard of that contest."

"Good!" Ariel exclaimed excitedly. “Then make this an opportunity to avenge you!”

Liam stood up and looked at Ariel with a cold face. "I have no interest in doing that. I don't want to take part in the contest."

“Liam—”

"For what, Ariel?!" cut Liam quickly. "Even that incident happened a long time ago, I don't know, please don't force me to follow it."

Ariel looked at Liam with a concerned look, "Liam...." she called small in a sad voice.

As someone who had been by that man's side for a long time, Ariel understood how Liam was feeling right now. Without even asking, Ariel already knew what he was thinking. It's not that he doesn't want to, Liam needs a little push to make him realize.

"Don't you want to avenge your parents?" asked Ariel, still maintaining her sad tone.

Liam was silent for a long time without an answer before. Finally, only one sentence left his lips. "I don't know myself."

Within seconds Ariel was standing right in front of the man, both hands holding each of Liam's shoulders firmly. “I know you want. You really want revenge with that old fart Alpha, don't you? You've been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, Liam. You never did because there was never a loophole through which you could enter the kingdom. But now that you have that chance, the gods have helped you and you deserve your revenge.”

"I was afraid I couldn't hold myself back when I met him. What if later I run straight at him and attack him? It's not him who died, it's me who will be executed," Liam replied.

“That's why you need me! I know you can control yourself pretty well, but I'm also not sure if you've met King Robert."

"I don't want to call him a King, he's just a trash werewolf who likes to bully the weak," Liam said quickly.

"Okay, I'm sorry," Ariel apologized quickly. "Then I will help you control your emotions a little when you meet him, I can tell you what you have to do so that the Lycan in you doesn't immediately wake up when you see that man."

Liam immediately raised his eyebrows disapprovingly. "Are you sure you can help me? Even you were so angry when I threw a knife at you.”

"That's another story!"

Liam chuckled, disagreeing with Ariel's sentence.

"It's up to you!" The grumpy Alpha girl finally let go of her hands from Liam's shoulders, she walked away because she was annoyed that since earlier, Liam was just joking with her, even though Ariel was already very serious.

Until Liam's voice made her turn around again. "I seriously can't believe that guy has a daughter, let alone an omega."

Ariel nodded, she was also just as surprised when she heard the news. "They hid her very well for fear that your people would kill her."

Liam smiled, he agreed with Ariel's statement just now.

Liam is a Lycan, not a werewolf, what he knows now is that he is the last Lycan who survived the attack years ago. Liam still remembers how his parents and siblings died right before his eyes in the attack led by King Robert.

Liam managed to live because Ariel's family had saved him and helped him hide all these years, Ariel's father was a friend of Liam's father. Liam has lived among the werewolves all this time under his false identity. Ariel helped him disguise his scent to smell like a werewolf in general. Liam is also an Alpha, but the fact is that Lycan is stronger than the usual werewolves.

Even though other werewolves wouldn't know he was a Lycan, Liam stayed away from the crowd. He isn't friends with anyone other than Ariel and his siblings, and some of Ariel's siblings don't seem to like him—Liam can tell that even if they don't say it directly.

He don't know, Liam feels uncomfortable among the werewolves and still has a bit of trauma from the attack. Therefore Liam chose to stay away and become a loner to keep his life safe all these years.

Liam yearns for revenge against King Robert for the death of his entire family. Still, he's never had an opening into the kingdom of Hurwolf. The kingdom was very difficult to penetrate, especially for outsiders like him. Liam once tried to apply to work as a waiter there. Still, unfortunately, the kingdom only accepted a Beta, so that Liam couldn't get away.

But now King Robert openly announced that he has a daughter and they will hold a contest to find a mate for his daughter. Wouldn't this be an excellent opportunity for Liam to sneak in and secretly kill King Robert?

Or maybe the most appropriate way to destroy the King of the Hurwolf kingdom is not by killing him but by eliminating someone he cares about the most, like how King Robert eliminated the entire family that Liam cares about the most?

Liam smiled as he imagined some cunning plan going through his head. "Okay, Ariel, I will follow the contest. So, what should I do to begin with?”
