Chapter Eight Omar

The wolves skidded to a stop behind him. Omar immediately took on his human form. They could still feel the power reverberating in the air around them. “Who was it?” “What?" Isiah decided that the best thing to do was to play dumb as he glanced over at Dean. Dean slowly shifted to his human form. He was still feeling battered, bruised, and lost from the rejection that he had given Naomi. It had been taking a toll on him physically. Now this. Now a pack member had abjured. Isiah stared at Omar, hoping he could read his expression. Omar sighed, knowing his brother didn’t want to say anything in front of the other wolves. He and Dean hadn’t been the only two wolves that came racing to that border when they heard a scream. The other two that made up their team, Gamma Devon, and Theta Craig, had followed. Dean took notice of the look that passed between the two brothers and felt the need to impose his dominance. His enforcer would keep nothing from him. “Who,” he demanded. Isiah simply stared at him with a grimace on his face. It was obvious that he had no intention of revealing what he knew without a little needling. “Who,” he demanded again, using his Alpha tone. He saw the disgust that crossed Isiah’s face, before he quickly hid it with a blank expression. What could have possibly incited that? Isiah gritted his teeth as he attempted to fight the command. Dean raised his eyebrows. There had never been any issues between Isiah and him. He couldn’t understand where the hostility was coming from. “Naomi,” Isiah practically barked. “What,” exclaimed Omar. “And you let her. Without informing me first?” Isiah never looked at Omar. He kept his eyes on Dean and felt a sick sense of satisfaction as the color drained from his face. “Not the reaction I would have expected.” Omar frowned, glancing between his little brother and his Alpha. He could feel the tension rising between the two as silence reigned. “Why didn’t you stop her,” Dean practically spluttered. “Since you rejected her, I didn’t think you would care.” It hit Dean all at once. The disgust, the hostility he felt coming from Isiah. He knew Isiah had been rejected by his fated mate. He would personally know the pain that he put Naomi through. It was practically unheard of in their pack. Who would reject their fated mate? Their other half promised by the Moon Goddess. Dean couldn’t look him in the eye anymore. The sound that came from Omar was animalistic. Isiah and Dean both jerked their attention towards him. He shoved his hands through his hair as he fought with his wolf for control. His wolf, Kind, had confided in him that he knew what Naomi was. King wouldn’t tell him what she was, but he had informed him that she would change the lives of everyone around her. The Moon Goddess deemed it so. That was why they had taken it upon themselves to train her as a warrior. It was their job to protect her. Naomi hadn’t really paid attention, but she hadn’t been physically assaulted in years by pack members and that was due to King. Then…. he blew. “Have you lost your f*****g mind!” Dean stood in shock. No one had ever dared to address him that way. He didn’t know how to process the moment. “You rejected Naomi? Sweet, caring, loving Naomi?” Dean didn’t like being questioned by his Beta. What he didn’t appreciate even more was the way his Beta described his fated mate. Instinctual feelings of possessiveness and anger reared their ugly heads. Luca was on the surface looking through Dean’s eyes. “What do you know about Naomi? Have you had your hands on her?” Isiah took three hasty steps backwards, as well as the Gamma and Theta. Neither of them wanted to get caught between the two wolves. One was possessive and the other was obsessive. He knew that Omar looked at Naomi like a sister, but that’s what made it even worse. King was obsessive in his need to protect her, his family. “You rejected her for that b***h Ashlynn?” “Watch your mouth, Beta. That’s your future Luna you’re talking about.” “Right. Your future Luna. Then don’t question whether my hands have been on Naomi!” “That’s my fated mate!” “Who you rejected!” Luca pushed through. “I wanted her,” he screamed. “He didn’t, but I did.” By this time, they were nose to nose. Omar could see the pain that radiated in Luca’s eyes. Dean shoved him back down and took control. Omar could have sympathy for the wolf, but for Dean, hell no. An explosion was on the horizon. As much as Isiah wanted to step in and break it up, he stayed back. Even if it was a fight between the team, brothers. It was time someone stood up for Naomi. Dean stared Omar down. He couldn’t say a word because he was guilty. Omar bated him in for a fight. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. So don’t question whether I touched her or if I been up in her.” He smirked at Dean. He saw the punch coming but was too close to dodge it. He staggered back a few steps, almost losing his balance. Once he righted himself, he saw Luca standing in Dean’s place. He smirked. This has been a long time coming. He had tired of watching how Dean had treated Naomi over the years. King took over and attacked. Isiah stood with the others in the forest. None of them quite believed what they were seeing. Their two leaders were going at it. Over a woman no less. A woman that one decidedly didn’t want and a woman that the other would never look at in that way. They all knew it, but their Alpha was too blind to see it. The quiet was only broken by the sounds of the two snarling, fighting wolves as they ripped into each other. The team’s only job was to make sure they didn’t try to kill each other. They could hear running coming in their direction. Patrol. Luca threw up a paw and hit King across the muzzle. King returned the same. Luca fell over, not being used to being hit with so much force. He was slowly realizing that there was much more to King than he knew. King pounced on Luca. Letting him know that he could rip his throat out. That he was powerful enough to end him. King looked Luca in the eye. “That’s the difference between us Luca. Me and my human accepted Naomi from day one and were bestowed a gift upon us. Your human has possibly cost you your destiny.” The scream drew King’s attention. Ashlynn stood red-faced from her mad dash there, surrounded by patrol. She felt Dean’s pain through their bond. King started to advance on her slowly as though she were prey. The low growl that he emitted sent shivers down her spine. To their surprise, it wasn’t Dean who came to her rescue; it was Isiah. He placed himself between the two of them. “King, let Omar have control.” King snarled at him. “I know she’s part of the reason Naomi is gone, but you can’t attack her. I can’t let you kill her.” They stared at each other. King finally relented after what seemed like an eternity. Omar was finally able to take control. He stepped to Ashlynn and stared her down as she cowered in fear. “You will never be my Luna.” He looked over his shoulder at Dean. “Losing Naomi will be the biggest mistake you have ever made. This b***h here is only going to bring you down.” Isiah followed as Omar started to walk away. Dean may be his Alpha, but Omar was his brother; his blood. Dean just solemnly stared. Ashlynn looked at him. Waiting for him to address that statement; to deny it. He never did. The first stirrings of resentment began to grow within her.
