The Dinner

I wake up a few hours later smelling pasta and some meat. I open my eyes and recognize it as spaghetti and meatballs. I look around to check to see if maybe Lee had made his way up to the room. I start to feel bad because it’s really not his fault that his family overwhelmed me. During my nap I did have a couple concerning thoughts. The first, was why is Leith texting Maeve when she is freshly 18. Granted I don’t really know how old he is but, still it makes my skin itch a little to think about.

The second thing is that this trip has been a great learning experience for me but, I still don’t know much about Lee and I don’t think he knows a lot about me either. He has spent a lot of time getting me to know his family, his culture, and his pack, but, I only know his favorite color because I am currently drowning in it right now in his bedroom. Maybe I could propose a date night just the two of us? I hear a soft knock at the door and I assume it is Lee.

“Come in” I am correct in my assumption and he sheepishly walks inside and shuts the door. He comes to sit next to me on the bed.

“How are you feeling Love?” He asks eyes twinkling.

“I am better now thank you” I answer and smile at his concern.

“Good. I had a talk with my siblings while you were asleep about keeping the bickering to a minimum while you are around. Is there anything else that I can do?” He asks me.

“Well, I was actually thinking that we should have a date just the two of us soon. Before I leave I mean”

“You’re right. Would tomorrow work?”

“Yeah”

“Okay, I’m sorry I am not really used to dating so I forgot the date part” We laugh.

“Wait, am I the first girl that you have dated?” I ask.

“Pretty much” He responds.

“Well that is surprising” I say.

“Why?”

“Well you’re handsome guy I figured you dated plenty of girls before me” I blush as I say this.

“Well believe it or not you are the first girl that I have ever dated. I was always waiting on my mate.” He answers. “What about you?”

“I mean if I had no friends growing up then I for sure had no boyfriends” I respond.

“Yeah I guess that adds up” I flop back down on the bed again and lay on my stomach. When I do Lee starts lazily scratching my back.

“I’ll go back to sleep if you start that” I sigh.

“Might be nice to take a nap after a nap” He says.

“It is that kind of day huh?” I ask.

“Yeah I mean you saw part of it but, the girls came home while you were sleeping” He rubs the back of his neck. “They immediately started fighting as soon as they saw each other and they are both looking at me to tell the other one they’re wrong” He sighs. “You know what’s crazy is that I am starting side with Maeve”

“Really?” I ask.

“Yeah, I mean at least as a vacation for Josie.” He explains.

“That might be a good compromise” I offer.

“That’s if I can pitch it to them without getting my head ripped off”

“Have you thought about suggesting while wearing some kind of armor?” I giggle.

“That might be the only thing that could save me at this point”

“Are you at all worried about Leith and Maeve talking like they do?” I blurt out remembering to my sleep thoughts.

“Yeah, I talked to her about that.” He says pausing.”I guess they have been playing video games together for a while now. I called him myself to you know threaten him within an inch of his life Alpha stuff. But, He’s gay as it turns out so I really don’t have anything to worry about for once.” He gets up from the bed and stretches. “I also arranged for Leith and Xander to pick you up in a couple days.”

“Thank you that was sweet”

“Well if it was up to me I would just let you stay here and call it a win but Sean insisted that I call. You know for my Beta he bosses me around a lot” Oh great Sean is still eager to get rid of me to some degree. Lee notices this and works to do damage control.

“it’s not like that Love, he just doesn’t want a Helen of Troy situation you know?”

“If you say so”

“I do say so now, are you ready for the best spaghetti and meatballs you have ever had?” He asks me grinning.

“Not gonna lie I expected something a little more Irish from you guys.”

“Normally yes, but, Maeve loves Italian food and we forgot to get corned beef.” I get out of his bed and straighten my clothes.

“Should I change?” I ask.

“No, I’m wearing this” gesturing to his green henley and khaki colored cargo pants. I guess my overalls are pretty tried and true. Not to mention that I didn’t pack anything else so all I would be doing would be changing my overalls to a fresh pair. The both of us are always dressed like cartoon characters. Lee leads me downstairs to the kitchen where I see the table is set and the rest of his family are sitting around waiting on us. Maeve and Josie have placed Sean between them as a buffer. I choose a spot next to Josie so that Lee can be closer to the sister that is celebrating.

“About time” Maeve says digging into the food that is on her plate while Lee begins to make mine at the table.

“Maeve are you still wanting to go outside when the moon is all the way up?” Josie asks her.

“Yeah maybe I will sense my mate somewhere nearby” She says excitedly. We hear a knock at the back door and Sean gets up to see who it is. He opens the door to find Liam there on the steps.

“Liam? What are you doing here?” Maeve asks turning her head to look around at her ex-boyfriend.

“I am here for spaghetti, just because I broke up with you doesn’t mean that I’m not allowed to eat Josie’s cooking.” Sean goes for the Clover pack bridge of the nose grip and Lee responds.

“Liam that it is exactly what that means.” Liam starts to get flustered.

“Great so my girlfriend cheats on me and now I don’t even get dinner.” He throws his hands up in the air in exasperation.

“I didn’t cheat on you, Leith is gay you i***t” Maeve standing up to look him in the eyes. Liam acts like he just got shot before responding with a scoff.

“Gay men can still want to sleep with you, and I am not an i***t” Sean face palms and walks into the other room presumably to wait this interaction out.

“That’s bi men, Leith only likes men and if you are not an i***t then don’t act like one.” Maeve says.

“So you didn’t cheat on me with the sexy bad boy Beta?”

“No.” She answers flatly.

“Oh, well do you want to get back together?” He asks.

“Liam no I would rather die than get back with you.” Maeve responds.

“But, what if we are mates?” He pleads.

“I sincerely hope we are not” She says back.

“Well let’s go see” He says reaching for her arm. He grabs a hold of her and leads her out of the door into backyard as the sun is setting. Lee growls and follows closely behind them. I get up as well because you have to watch a train wreck until it is done. Josie follows behind and Sean comes out of the living room to join us. I step out side and see Maeve push him away from her. Lee gets in between them and pushes him away from her with both hands on his chest.

“Liam back off!” He shouts and I swear it makes the ground shake. Sean comes from behind us to put himself between the two of them.

“Liam you can see if Maeve is your mate and if she isn’t then you will leave and never come back”

“Sean that is not your call to make” Lee warns.

“And you don’t need to kill this moron over this, the moon will shine and reveal that he is not her mate and this can all be over.”

“Fine” Lee agrees begrudgingly.

“So now what?” Josie asks. We all look to the sky and see the moon starting to creep up in the sky.

“Welp” Maeve says before she takes a seat on the grass and continues to stare up at the sky.
