Episode 3.

CHAPTER 3.

THANE’S POV.

“Alpha, alpha,” Cornelio called out causing me to turn in the direction of the door that had just abruptly swung open,

“What is going on?” I asked shooting him a confused look as I noticed the agitation that had begun to form on his face, It was strange seeing my beta in this state,

“It’s the Goldenkanine pack, they are approaching Alpha Draygus, and I’m afraid it’s war sir,” he said,

“War?” Why now? So quickly,” I questioned confused. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that my father was dead and there was some strange ancestral curse behind it.

“The news is out…they know that Head Alpha Dragus has passed so now they want to contest for the throne,” Cornelio said,

‘But that throne belongs to me…they must be stupid to think they can go against us,” I retorted after I processed what he had just said, but how? How did the news get out so quickly, I hadn’t even consulted our mutual packs to break this news to them, so with the Goldenkanine having knowledge of my father's death, they must have heard the news as well.

“But alpha, most of our betas and omegas are not prepared…” he started but I had had enough of his cowardice,

“When did you start exhibiting such buffoonery act beta, You should know the Mooncrest pack is the strongest in all of the land, Have we ever lost a battle?” I asked causing him to move his head in a negative direction,

“As I thought, now summon the other wolves and meet me at the gate, if it’s war they want, then they should prepare to lose every lineage of their pack, now move!” I commanded causing him to run out of my room at once.

It was always one rogue or the other since my family ascended this throne, I watched Dad fight them all, and that prepared me for this day. Up till now, they had refused to acknowledge the Mooncrest pack as their supreme, but their stupidity had refused to let them see that just like my father, I am the most powerful alpha in all the land, and since they refused to acknowledge that, I’ll make them an example to the others.

“Now the rule is there is no rule, if you want to kill, devour, or e*****e any member of that pack you do it, we have to show them that we are the most powerful wolves in the land, the moon crest pack isn’t for weaklings and you have absolutely no right to die, have you got that!” I yelled, earning a thunderous response from my pack,

“Yes, Alpha Draygus!” They chorused before I turned to face the direction the chanting and noise came,

“It’s time, now GO!” I yelled instructing the war to commence, this caused my pack members to begin to transform into their wolves, the fight had begun but my major target was their supposed alpha, what a joke he was, he had no strength, brain, or agility compared to me and he chose to go up against me? I’ll prove to him that I Alpha Thane Draygus am not to be toyed with. I marched forward trying to unleash my wolf, but something was wrong, I couldn’t feel it, and I felt empty inside. I tried my best to channel it out, but Draygus was gone,

“Cornelio! Cornelio!” I called out to my beta who had just finished tearing apart a member of the other pack,

“Yes master, why haven’t you transformed?” He questioned with shock evident on his face as he took his human form back,

“ I don’t know… I can’t find my wolf, I am confused as to why?” I said as a feeling I had never sensed before began to build up slowly within me, the other pack had begun to overpower us thus causing the feeling to grow even stronger, Was this fear? Was I really scared? No this can’t be, I do not possess such emotions, I am the strongest alpha in the land,

“Look Alpha, there is no time for this conversation, I will suggest you go hide in the castle until the fight is over, I’ll be in charge and when we win, we’ll go see the sorcerer supreme,” he said, giving me a reassuring look before taking his wolf form back,

“I… thane dragus? Should hide?” I let out in disbelief as I rethought Cornelio’s words to me,

This is unbelievable, did my beta just ask me to sit out on a fight, what level of embarrassment was this? I began to grow angry at my stupid wolf, who dared to pull such a silly joke on me at such a time. It was pointless standing here and being an embarrassment, I headed straight to the sorcerer's cave with the hopes of finding out what the source of such a ridiculous joke might be.

“Sorcerer supreme!” I yelled striking the door open,

“Lord Draygus… what are you doing here? I heard the Goldenkanine pack is attacking us, or is the war over?” he asked taking a look behind me like I had invited the pack in with me,

“No, but what I find embarrassing is that I can’t seem to transform, I feel empty, like a useless human with just a mere body,” I said walking over to his shelf that had numerous potions,

“All of these are useless,” I said slamming them all to the ground. What nonsense is this? I felt my anger grow beyond control at this point,

“Oh no…It’s happening to you as well,” the sorcerer said entering full panic mode,

“Hey… hey!” I yelled frightening him to pay attention to me,

“What do you mean it’s happening to me as well?” I questioned taking bold steps toward him,

“Alpha please relax, I’ll try to see what I can do but anger is not the way right now…” he said but I was infuriated,

“What nonsense do you speak of, How dare you tell me to calm down, I am the Alpha the strongest wolf out there but suddenly I can’t transform, and you expect me to relax when my wolf suddenly disappears, This is your job right, and you clearly know something so speak!” I thundered walking over to him and raising him off the ground with one move,

“Alpha please… it’s.. It’s..” he stuttered, and that’s when my mind drifted to the last words my father told me, as I dropped him to the floor.

“This is how the curse starts?” I let out in disbelief,

“Yes alpha.. but we’ve tried, and still trying to find a cure, your father made sure you’d never suffer the way he did, that’s why we kept this little potion to help maintain a bit of your wolf, you just can’t feel it, or unleash it but it is still within you..” sorcerer supreme said

“But it’s still useless,” I let out devastated,

“What was the point of having a wolf and not being able to use it..” I let out as another unfamiliar emotion appeared within me. I could feel myself turning into a mere human every second that passed and it disgusted me to my bones. I felt weak.

“Alpha.. please don’t say that. Your father and I were still working on options on how to fix this mess.. before his sudden death, he told me he was going to break the news to you and when you come to speak to me I should put more effort into saving you than I did with him.….” he said basically stuttering,

“ So what are you saying? You can’t fix this! Are you still trying to find a cure? ” I yelled,

“No alpha, it’s not that I can’t fix it, I just need time, please alpha, when the war is over I will examine you closely,” he said practically begging for his life, he knew better than to play games with me, I was not one to be toyed with, if my dad took things lenient with him I was far from it.

Standing here was pointless, the more I watched him speak it irritated me, I don’t know why Dad kept him around, giving him more chances even when he couldn’t save him,

I was even angrier that I couldn’t participate in the fight. I wanted to show them what it meant to go against me. They would all regret this I promise and to my stupid wolf who had decided to vanish on me, how lucky it was that I couldn’t hurt it, it’s a disgrace it chose to become useless in a fight that could have earned me more praises.

I retreated to my room and after a while the noises outside began to die down, which only meant that my pack had emerged victorious, they had no choice but to because I was their head now and they needed to bring all of that glory back to me,

“Alpha Draygus… we.. we won, we killed as many as we could while most of them ran off injured,” Cornelio said, running into the room, panting heavily with blood spilled all over his skin,

“And the alpha?” I asked because that was my major concern, I wanted to go up against him and show him personally what it was like to go up against me, how dare he instruct his useless pack to come up against mine, this throne is mine and no one is taking it away from me,

“He fled the scene when he saw we had begun to overpower them, I was about to attack him but he was long gone before I was done fighting off other betas,” he said going on one knee, he still showed respect despite the fact that he knew my condition and why I couldn’t join the fight,

“Well done Cornelio, your reward and that of the other wolves will be passed on to you,” I said blessing him before he got off his knee,

“Thank you Alpha, we learned from the best,” he said bowing his head,

“But Alpha, what did the Sorcerer Supreme say?” He asked, which prompted me to move my head in his direction,

“He said my dad and he had been working on breaking the stupid curse, and what disgusts me the most is that I’m more of a mere human, I have such a useless body with nothing to show for it, I still can’t phantom a way this would be possible? How will I just suddenly lose Draygus?” I asked lost in thoughts,

“Alpha… I may suggest you seek the sorcerer once again, but we need to give him a little bit of time to at least do more research on this since you are not the first to experience this, we are looking at a long-term treatment so such an incident may never occur with you or your linage, my lord,” he said, he was right. I didn’t want such embarrassment to happen again, I needed it to end here.

“Well in that case inform him that he has only two days to create a solution to this, if he doesn’t I’ll make sure to feed his head to the slaves for supper,” I thundered.

“Yes alpha, you should catch some rest, I’ll leave you now,” cornelio said bowing before exiting my room as I proceeded to do as he said.

“Alpha alpha…” Cornelio thundered, bursting through my room door. This caused me to jump off my bed almost immediately.

“What is the meaning of this… how dare you…” I started but he cut me off mid-word,

“Alpha, the Goldenkanine’s are back, I’m afraid that they didn’t retreat because of they were scared, they went to pair up with the vipers clan, to attack us,” he said turning to see if we were safe. This caused he to walk to my balcony to observe the scene. The wolves were more than enough to tear down this castle and this was when my wolf still decided to vanish.

“Alpha thane.. You must escape now!” Sorcerer Supreme said rushing into my room,

“No I won’t, I will stay and fight, you have said it that my wolf is still within me, maybe I just need to press on and it will unleash,” I said trying my best to concentrate on Dragus, but I could barely feel him. He was weak and drained, almost as if he were dead.

“This can’t be…” I let out in disbelief, this all felt like a terrible nightmare I couldn’t wake up from,

“Alpha thane, I’m sorry but this is not the time for this, but I have news…” Sorcerer Supreme said walking over to me and handing me a piece of paper,

“Take this, this paper has the instructions on how to break the curse…” he said,

“But if you had this all along why…” I started,

“Alpha thane there’s no guarantee that it would work, but you must leave now, those rogues out there mustn’t meet you, because they are here for not just the throne, but your blood,” he said,

“Alpha please you have to leave now, take the route through the dungeon and leave,” Cornelio said pulling me out of my room. I took a look at the paper in my hand. The address was unfamiliar,

“What! is.. is… this…” I stuttered staring at it in disbelief,

“It is alpha, but we are left with no other choice… now go!” Sorcerer Supreme thundered.
