Episode 2.

Chapter Two.

THANE’S POV.

“Where is he…. Father! Father…” I called out as I opened the door to the numerous rooms of the castle,

“Alpha Thane please be calm your father is already weak as it seems…” the guard at the door said but I had no time for this, I shoved him aside with one push and with another, I forced the door open, revealing my father lying weak on the bed,

“Father…” I was lost for words as I beheld the scene in front of me. Nothing had prepared me for a day like this, I never would have thought that the most powerful alpha I know would become this weak, and it all started from the day he lost his wolf,

“Thane… I didn’t want you here.. to see me like this,” he said slowly reaching for my hand as he let out a series of harsh coughs,

“Father easy… I don’t want to see you this way either, you have to be strong because you are strong, you can fight this and win, I believe in you,” I said pushing back the tears that had slowly begun to build up in my eyes,

“Son… I have something that you must know…” he said accompanied by an intense cough. This view brought me so much pain, pain that I never would have envisioned clenching onto my soul, even if someone had told me,

“Father speak to me… I’m here, I’m right beside you,” I said holding his hand tighter than I already was,

“My … my condition, it isn’t a coincidence…” he said letting out another cough,

“I don’t understand, what do you mean it isn’t a coincidence…” I said growing more confused by what he was saying. If he was just spewing rubbish I would prefer he kept shut and saved his energy so he could recover quickly,

“Let me finish son…” he said with his voice getting more hoarse by the second as he let out uncontrollable coughs,

“Our lineage had been cursed… I tried to break it but I failed… and now it will be passed down to you,” he said,

“I don’t understand what you mean by cursed,” I asked growing more impatient, as every word he said erected a nerve of confusion within me,

“Four generations ago, our forefathers got involved in a dirty deal with a moon goddess, and out of greed he killed her…. But before she died she placed a curse on him that every lineage from him would never live long enough to see the progress of their rule… my father tried, his father tried and all other generations tried thier best to break this curse, but they all failed… unfortunately even me,” dad said letting out another series of cough this time it was accompanied with black stains that appeared to be blood, I was getting more terrified. What was this and why was I just getting to know about it only just now,

“Father.., what are you saying? Cursed? Why would you keep such an important family secret away from me…” I said growing angry as I released his grip from mine,

“Dont please, don’t leave until I’m done speaking, Thane I know you and how angry you get, I didn’t hide this away from you because I wanted to, I hid it because I thought I could handle it, do you know how much it took from me to hid such secret from you, I was only trying to protect you…” He said causing me to shove the entire instruments placed on the counter to the ground. I was beyond infuriated at this point,

“Save me? Save me from what? Death that has already been brought my way, so what? How did that plan go since you decided to work in silence, This is unbelievable,” I said letting out a scoff as I found it impossible to stand in a spot. I regretted coming here, How could he break such news to me at this very moment,

“Was this how much you thought of me? So I was so incompetent that you couldn’t share this with me?” I fired at him,

“It’s not like that son.... I just didn’t want you to go through what I went through when my father broke the news to me, I was devastated but I don’t have much time left in this world. I needed to tell you this before it was too late,” he said,

“Please just let me finish, if I don’t tell you this… no one else would…” he said breaking into a long harsh cough. It was unbearable watching him this way, he looked completely miserable,

“When I die, the curse immediately moves on to you, and that means as soon as you ascend the throne, your wolf disappears and once it does, your time left in this world begins to read, until your children become of age and it gets passed down to them….” Dad said,

“This is stupid… I’m so disgusted by you right now,” I said as I balled my hands up into a fist,

“But son… It’s not too late for you to fix this, you can change the course of the Draygus family fate…” Father said testing my patience even more,

“And how do you expect me to do that, when you’re telling me about the failed attempts in the past and I’m looking at one right now….” I shot,

“Thane I might be dying but I’m still your father…” he said,

“Dying? Oh no, you won’t do that, you have to get better and join me to fix this… how dare you speak about death after revealing such a disturbing truth to me,” I fired at him,

“Thane… I can’t do more than this, my time has come and this is now your battle to fight… You have to get the book….” He said with the life support machine blaring uncontrollably as Dad’s breathing began to increase rapidly,

“Dad don’t do this… stop this madness, you can fight harder…” I said reaching for him,

“No son.. this is my time, I have fought hard enough for this family, and now it’s your turn… find the spell book and fix this…. Fight for this family… and you have till your coronation before it’s too late…” Dad said as he grappled for his last breath,

“Who is out there! Get me the physician right now!!” I yelled falling to his side,

“Father please don’t do it…. At least tell me where to find the book and what to do… don’t go please,” I pleaded as I felt the tears fill up my eyes.

“Son, find the book and rescue our family…” Dad said one last time before breaking into an uncontrollable cough, gasping for breath as his grip weakened on my palm.

“Father please… don’t…” I started but the monitor was beeping in a constant tone prompting me to focus on him, he wasn’t moving anymore, he was now still, his grip was no longer tight. I couldn’t feel a pulse, and I refused to believe this,

“Master thane what is…” the physician said rushing into the room,

“How dare you leave my father all alone, You should have done your job better,” I said rushing over to him at once,

“Master Thane I’m sorry for your loss but it was the Alpha’s order, he didn’t want any Interruptions or further treatment, he insisted he knew what was wrong and he only wanted to see you!” He said but I was filled with nothing but bitterness at this point. He didn’t even try to fight my father against his words, he just gave up. I reached for him with one move and shoved his back to the wall causing him to wince in pain. I pressed onto his neck tighter, I was willing to sacrifice him for the return of my father, how dare he treat him with such carelessness,

“Master… alpha…” Cornelio my beta said running into the room,

“Please save me…” the physician managed to mutter out,

“You still have the guts to speak…” I said Tighten my grip,

“Master please let go of him… killing him won't return Alpha Draygus, don’t regret doing this…” Cornelio pleaded. I felt the rage in my body still over power me but a stronger urge to adhere to Cornelio’s instructions, he was like a brother to me and what he said somewhat had an atom of sense to it, asides that I can’t have rumors spreading around the kingdom that I murdered someone right after my father’s passing. I released my grip from him turning my attention back to my father’s lifeless body on the bed, I was officially an orphan and I had now inherited a curse.

“Alpha Thane, I’m sorry for your loss,” Cornelio said from behind me,

“Don’t apologize yet….we have work to do, summon the sorcerer immediately!” I fired before storming out of the room.
