Chapter 4.
THANE’S POV.
I sat on a boulder rethinking my choice of trusting the Sorcerer Supreme. He couldn’t even save my father so what made me so sure that I could stand a chance? After I had crossed the tunnel that led to the human realm, I was in awe of the view, and yet confused by what I was supposed to do with this piece of paper in my hand. I had never been here because Dad had forbidden it and in all my years being raised as a wolf I dreaded humans, due to the tales we were told to avoid showing up here. They were deadly, vicious, and dangerous, was all we kept hearing, but we never went a day without learning about them or their lifestyles. We had seen views of their lands over collected artifacts, but I never got the chance to actually come into this world, until now, and looking at this had stricken me into a state of uttermost confusion.
“128th Glassvine Street…. You’ll know who possesses the book when you meet her.” The note read,
“How dumb I was to actually fall for this. The palace was under attack and as the next ruler I fled, nowhere to be seen, completely abandoning my people without a word. They must think I’m a disgrace. I hated Draygus for this. Even if it was my time, couldn’t the curse just wait for a little longer…” I groaned.
Tempted to turn back but withheld by a strong urge pulling me towards the road. The more I tried to move my legs back to the direction I had just come from, the tugging sensation intensified, throwing me onto the road.
I slammed my side to the ground and immediately, I could see the blinding lights of a car approaching me.
If the moon goddess wanted me dead she could have just let me die fighting for my people and not let me get run over by a stupid human. I tried to move out of the way but no matter how hard I tried to move, I was pinned to the ground, As the light got thicker in my sight, I heard the brakes screech.
“Oh my God not this again… please tell me he is alive. He isn’t moving? I have killed another person. Twice in a day? What the hell is wrong with you Ember? You weren’t raised a murderer…” she cried in utter panic rather than actually reaching down to help me.
The moment I tried to speak to her, that was when I heard Draygus howling, it was too loud and clear and the next thing I saw was a key, dangling on her wrist reaching out to me. It had a glow, I tried to reach for it but it disappeared,
“Is she the one?” I let out,
“Hey…. Are you okay? Did I hurt you ?” She asked revealing her face to me as she fell to my side. Her face was covered with panic as she examined every part of me. The touch made Draygus more alert, confirming my assumptions. I instantly grabbed her hands drawing her closer to me,
“I’m sorry, please don’t hurt me. I promise, I didn’t do it on purpose, I was in panic and I didn’t see you please…” she started but her constant speaking nearly put me in a Concussion, I was so confused by why she felt the need to keep speaking from the moment I saw her,
“Is this how you humans behave…” I let out. Her face took a sudden turn as she now made the attempt to break free from my hold but I tightened my grip around her. I had found her and I was not willing for her to go, not until she had given me what I wanted,
“What do you mean by that.. let go of me,” she fought,
“No… I won’t.” I retorted, taking a full glance at her face. She was beautiful. She was nothing like the lunas at the village. She was different, her beauty radiated beyond what I had ever seen and she smelled amazing, I didn’t want to let go of her.
“Are you okay?” She inquired,
“Yes…” I replied blindly mesmerized,
“Then let go of me.. since you're okay I have somewhere to be,” she spat finally snatching her hands from me. It was at the point where she turned to shoot me a wary look before turning to move in the direction of her car I had regained my memory,
“No, I'm not fine… don’t leave me here, you did this…” I said pointing to my body,
“I didn’t do anything…” she started,
“But you didn’t see me, did you? You knocked me to the ground and you want to leave me here? How heartless could you get?” I spat,
“Hey! Enough you don’t know me or anything about me so you don’t get to call me heartless,” she fired,
“But you hurt someone… You said it yourself. It takes only a heartless person to hurt someone and watch the person live in misery while you go on about your day.” I said,
She looked bitter, like she was about to actually get into her car and finish off what she had started, but she walked up to me, stretching her hands out for me to grab them. I looked at her in awe as I watched her clenched jaw nonchalantly nod in my direction,
“If after this you still choose to stay I'm not responsible for your death,” she spat.
“Who are you?” I asked her obliviously,
“Get your f*****g ass off the road!” An angry man passing by in a car spat at us, prompting her to reach for my hand as she made the move to pull me off the road. I wasn’t hurt so the only choice was to pretend like it till I had gotten what I wanted from her.
The car ride was a silent one, aside from her constant sighs and slamming of her face with her hand,
“Are you okay?” I asked, she shot her head in my direction giving me a suicidal look, prompting me to turn away from her,
“Do I look okay?” She spat,
“Is it because you killed someone ?” I asked,
“Dude! What the hell!” She fired,
“I heard you say it, there’s no need for me to play pretend. Who did you kill? I kill all the time,” I let out, causing her to hastily step on the brakes,
She turned to face me with a now terrified look mirror on her face,
“What do you mean by that?” She asked,
“Uh.. I.. I was just trying to make you feel better,” I said flashing her awkward smile. And honestly it wasn’t y fault. I didn’t know what I was supposed to say to her, it was bad enough that she was beautiful but she just had to go and be a very intimidating human. She terrified me, even for the kind of man I was.
“Shut up and don’t speak, I’ll check you for wounds when we get to my destination…” she said, igniting her engine as she flashed me another death look before driving away.
We arrived at the front of an old abandoned house, which had shrubs and endless vines growing on the walls, windows, and doors,
“May your soul rest in peace…” she said kissing her hand and placing it to her chest.
I could feel the sudden surge of energy fill my body as Draygus cried out again. He could feel this place and I knew the book was definitely here. She had brought me to her home,
“The place is a little messy so let me just grab something I can use to create a sitting area for you,” she said walking into the house with me following behind.
She let out a series of coughs as she turned on the lights. Revealing furniture left uncovered and heavily beaten by dust and webs, books stacked on top of each other lying around every corner of the house, leading to the bookshelf,
“Give me a second,” she said exiting my presence.
This was my cue, my eyes swept from one corner to the other thinking of what the almighty spell book would look like. Pushing past an awful load of dump, I began to search endlessly between every piece of paper within my sight, still taking glances behind me to make sure she wasn’t coming,
“What the f**k are you doing?” She thundered, increasing her pace towards me. I stood here stunned by her appearance and how quickly her face had turned red,
“Are you deaf? I said What do you think you are doing?” She fired,
“I.. I…” I started but nothing was coming. She snatched the piece of paper I had in my hand bringing it to her eyes,
“Who are you… And why did you follow me here? You clearly do not look hurt so why the f**k are you here snooping around?” She thundered still looking impatient,
“Relax okay? I just… I just wanted…” I tried to speak but I didn’t think it would be a good idea to actually come clean to her about why I was really here,
“Did my parents send you… Was it the Mongroove’s? Huh? Stop standing there looking dumb when you are a fully grown man,” she spat, but it was at this point that it had registered to me that no one had ever dared speak to me in such a manner before.
Infuriated, “How dare you speak to me in such a tone! You have no idea who I am… I am ruler…” I started but she burst into a laugh,
“What’s so funny… how dare you silly human girl make a mockery of me,” I retorted filled with rage,
“How dare you human man, come into my house and think you can do whatever you want. You men are really crazy, you all think because you have some sort of muscle and they let you do whatever you want you matter? You don’t dare try it around my territory!” She spat,
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with…” I let out, now regretting my choice of coming here. Everyone just wanted to make a fool out of me and they had finally gotten their wish,
“I’m sure you’re some homeless man, looking for a place to stay, well not here, now get the f**k out of my house or to who ever sent you!” She fired now pushing me with both hands in the direction of the door,
“Get those feeble hands off me!” I thundered grabbing her wrist at once. She looked at me with rage in her eyes, but all I could see were the most beautiful eyes I had ever come across in all my eternity of existence,
“What the f…” she started but the sound of harsh bangs on the door snapped her head in the direction of the door.
She drew her hand out of mine, sending me a deadly glance as she walked to open the door. Swinging it open, her face fell into uttermost fright as she fidgeted on the spot.
