Chapter 5.
EMBER’S POV.
“How.. how is it even possible that you’re alive?” I let out, stunned by the view before me,
“You stupid girl, you really thought you could get rid of me so easily. I was trained for this all my life. I knew that if you saw I was still alive you would be tempted to finish me off, worse you didn’t even think to send help my way. I admit for the way you act I never expected you to be so heartless,” he said,
“Don’t call me that… I’m tired of everyone saying that you caused this. If you had just left me alone none of this would have happened!” I fired,
“Is everything okay?” His voice rang from behind me.
“How did you even find me?” I asked completely ignoring the other baggage I had to get rid of,
“I see this was your plan to get me out of your life. So you could elope with this… caveman?” He said, prompting me to turn in his direction.
And I hated to admit it but he did look like he crawled out of a forest. His style was different from anything I had seen, but his features, he was built like he was specially sculpted by the creator,
“I didn’t plan to elope with anyone, so please can you just leave, I’m tired of always doing this with you Cassius, if there are a million girls out there that want you why can't you just go after them and just leave me alone…” I said but he grabbed me by my wrist and drew me closer to him with one swift move,
“I don’t want them silly… I want you. And I will have you no matter what. It was bold of you to think that I wouldn’t catch you when I control more than half of the city, Where do you think you’re planning to escape to?” He said releasing a laugh as he tightened his grip around my wrist.
I was truly stupid to think I could escape my reality, Up until a few hours ago I hadn’t even properly curated this plan and now he is all bandaged up and here to destroy me, I was hopeless at this point and I knew I couldn’t do anything to escape Cassius' wrath.
“Let go of her…” the strange man echoed from behind me as he made his way up to us,
“Please stay out of this. Don’t make things worse for me than they already are!” I fired,
“How can you seriously choose this dump… over me..” Cassius started bursting into a laugh as the fist of the tremendously built man went flying into his face,
“I knew that would do the trick. I don’t know what it is with you humans and never knowing when to shut up…” he said,
“Human…. Are…” Cassius started but stopped in his words, he took a good look at the man and then brought his gaze back to me,
“Are you crazy?” He asked,
“You’re the crazy one here now get lost and never show your face here ever again!” He thundered. His muscles had begun to grow stronger as the veins on his arms had now grown more visible,
“how many more bad decisions are you going to make before you destroy your family?” Cassius asked but before I could even process what was going on or move my mouth to speak, Mr stranger had started making bold moves towards Cassius.
Cassius terrified, hurriedly backed up from him. I had never seen him this way in my life and watching this I had never thought a day would come where I would find a man this attractive. I never had and watching this strange being defend me this way, arose an unfamiliar spark within me.
“And don’t come back unless you want me to finish off her job!” He yelled as Cassius drove off the pavement.
“Are you okay?” He asked examining my wrist,
“No bruises…” he said, with our eyes finally meeting,
“I’m… I’m.. Thanks,” I managed to mutter out,
“Hello you must be the new neighbors…it’s nice to see you!” an unfamiliar voice said snapping our heads in the direction of the door that was widely swung open,
“You are?” I asked raising a brow at her,
“I’m Halle pronounced ALI… I live next door,” she said sounding very hyperactive and that was not what I needed right now,
“Alright…” I said, hoping she would take that this was not the right time and she would just leave,
“You two are a wonderful couple…” She started moving her eyes to my hand that was still in his care. I hurriedly took it out of his hands as I turned to face the door, hoping I could get rid of them both.
“He isn’t my….” I started but before I could finish she had begun another statement now welcoming herself into my home,
“Wow.. this house had been abandoned for years, I didn’t believe it when Mrs Claire told me she saw people and voices in the witch’s house, for a moment we thought you were ghosts… very sexy ones,” she said smiling and sending a wave at the man — he just stood there blank and quiet observing the scene.
“Witch?” I asked,
“Yes, the lady who lived in this house over a thousand years ago was a witch and she died mysteriously. No one saw how she died or knew…” she started but I had had enough of this day already,
“My great great great grandmother wasn’t a witch and secondly she died the normal way any human would die!” I spat now leading her back to the door since she had refused to stop touching every object within her reach,
“Hey… I’m sorry, I didn’t know that. I just assumed that….” She started with me cutting her off again,
“Assumptions are bad, first impression leaves a mark. So kindly get lost,” I said, slowly shutting the door,
“Well I’ll see you around then, it’s nice to meet you and know you’re not a witch… sorry do not come from a witch family, I’m so sorry, I’m not supposed to even be talking about witches anymore since it’s not true.” She said in one breath,
“I’ll tell every….one!” I said slamming the door shut in her face before she could add another word. I pushed my back to the door, exhausted from how my day had been and thinking of all the cleaning i needed to do and how I was going to handle Cassius since I knew he was alive and he knew where I stayed.
“Do all humans talk a lot?” the strange man asked, snapping me back to my reality that I had not completely gotten rid of all my problems,
“Now you, get out!” I thundered opening the door,
“Please don’t do that, it’s late and I don’t have anywhere else to go. You were right about me being homeless… plus I can’t let you stay here all alone, with these dangerous beings around,” he said. Causing my stomach to create another unfamiliar sensation,
“Well I’m sorry, I don’t know you and I can’t let you stay here, you might also be dangerous… with your looks, strong built muscles… chiseled chin, stunning eyes…” I started but remembered I had begun to trail away,
“Trust me the only dangerous thing here would be you letting me out of your sight,” he retorted. I don’t know what was happening to me but I knew a good night's rest would shut it all down.
“I’ll survive trust me,” I said shoving him in the direction of the door,
“Come on…” he tried to speak but I had pushed him out with all the strength I had within me, slamming the door shut to his face.
“And I thought my life couldn’t get any crazier,” I spat as I moved into the room.
I found it unsettling to stay put in the room or house all alone. Cassius would definitely return and there wasn’t an incredibly built man to protect me from him, therefore I had no sort of protection. And knowing Cassius, he was not one that just carried out a simple revenge.
It was currently three hours past midnight and I had given up on my chances of getting any sleep. There was no food in the house to satisfy the rumble that came from my stomach but I knew for a fact that I needed fresh air.
I took off my clothes and proceeded to put on my robe as I moved out of the room, and that was when I heard the unusual sound echoing from the living room. Filled with panic, I grabbed a cane lying by the corner of the lobby, positioning it at the best angle to get rid of whatever that was,
As I got closer the sound got more audible with it now accompanied by growls and a familiar smell. My stomach had tied into a knot, uncertain about my choices to come here, maybe it was Cassius and he was back? Was he here to finish me off? I questioned
As I finally got to the living room. My eyes moved in the direction the sound came, with my eyes bulging out of their sockets at this scene. Never in my life would I have expected to see what was in front of me.
