“Why do you keep on asking me that?” He questioned, following me behind when I stepped out of the kitchen and tried to find the door way out of his apartment.
I stopped and turned around to face him. “Asking you what, Mr. Bennett?”
“To forget whatever happened between us.”
“Because it’s inappropriate,” I quickly responded.
He c****d an eyebrow, definitely not happy with my answer. “I didn’t feel that when you were kissing me last night.”
I held a hand up. “Please, stop bringing that up.”
“Why not?” He took a step closer to me, arms crossed against his chest. “We just can’t keep on running into each other like that and pretend that nothing happened.”
“Isn’t that something you should already be used to? You wouldn’t be hanging out in clubs if you’re not looking for women to have s*x with in the first place. You’re just like them.”
I immediately regretted saying that because I saw how the expression on his face changed when the words left my mouth. I knew that was borderline offensive, but I am just being honest about the aura he’s giving off.
“If you’re not going to clubs to kiss random guys, why would you think I’m also just going there to find women to have s*x with?” He countered.
Okay, that was a good retort.
“It’s different for me.”
“Really?” He asked. “ In what way?”
I felt like I should tell him now that I am a virgin, but that would just complicate things more, right?
His gaze held mine firmly as he took a few more steps closer to where I was standing. I took a few steps back as well until I felt my back hitting the wall.
“You really seemed to be playing games with me, Miss Hutton.” He muttered, his gaze piercing through me.
I swallowed hard, my heart beating so fast and so loud I could almost feel my ears throbbing. “I don’t know what you’re trying to imply, Mr. Bennett.”
“If you’re trying to tempt me, let me tell you that it’s working.” He gritted his teeth. “It’s f*cking working. I couldn’t get you out of my head since that first night that I met you. There’s just something about you that makes me immensely drawn to you. You need to let me know how I can get you out of my head because it’s been f*cking me up since that night at the club.”
My palms were starting to sweat. Why is he saying all of this to me now? “I don’t…I am not tempting you, Mr. Bennett.”
“Is that so?” He smirked. “Then maybe you just don’t realize that that’s what you’re doing.”
When he leaned forward and our lips were almost touching, I turned my face to the other side to avoid him. He’s so close I could feel his warm breath on my cheek.
“I know how to play fair, Amelia. If you want to play this game, I’ll play along. Let’s see who will give in first.” He whispered in my ear.
