I realized I had been staring at him for way too long when Sarah nudged my arm to get my attention. And when I slightly turned my head to look at her, she gave me a weird look.
“Hmm…looks like someone’s also interested in the new CEO, huh?” She teased.
I quickly shook my head no. “No, it’s not that. I just…he looked a little familiar to me. I’m trying to remember where I saw him.”
I released a nervous laugh. Looked familiar, my a**. Of course, he looked familiar. I made out with him in a damn club and was practically dry humping him. Fudge, now that I’m thinking about it, I really did try to dry hump the new CEO of our company last night. This is just getting weirder and weirder, and more absurd as I couldn’t help but remember everything that happened last night.
I even slapped him, for heaven’s sake!
Is there anyone on this planet who’s creating a time machine right at this very moment? Because if there is, let me go back to last night and erase everything.
Heck, what am I going to do now?
Sarah was saying something about maybe he looked like someone I knew but I was in a trance once again while the new CEO was giving a speech to everyone. I didn't really understand anything that he was saying. I think he’s thanking everyone for the warm welcome and all, but my mind couldn’t comprehend everything that was coming from his mouth.
Suddenly, he looked in my direction and I swear he saw me and he was looking right at me while he was still saying something about how honored he is for being given the opportunity to become the new CEO of the company.
I held my breath as he stared back at me for a moment and then he looked away as if he didn’t recognize me.
Either that, or he didn’t really remember me from last night. Or maybe he was looking at someone else and he didn’t see me.
Fudge, why would I even bother thinking if he remembered me or not? Besides, he had probably forgotten everything that happened because who knows, he might be hopping from one club to another, haunting a woman who would willingly open their legs for him.
Get a grip, Amy! This is the new CEO of the company you’re working for.
I should probably just forget about everything that happened and just blame everything on my sister, right?
Crap, I’m going to lose my job.
—
“So you’re blaming me because you made out with your company’s new CEO and then slapped him after? Did I tell you to do any of that?” My sister nagged at me while she was typing furiously at her computer.
I blew out a breath and rolled over on my stomach so that I could face her while lying on her bed. I went straight to her room from work and told her everything about the new CEO and my first encounter with him.
“Well, you’re the one who dragged me to that club in the first place,” I reasoned out.
Aria clicked her tongue while shaking her head. “My dear Amelia, I may have done that but I am not the one who kissed that hot stranger and then slapped him right after realizing that he was trying to get into your pants.”
“I worked so hard to land this job and I’ve been working my ass off for years to keep it. And tomorrow, there’s a high chance that I’m going to lose it forever.” I grabbed a pillow nearby and buried my face into it, then screamed my lungs out.
I jumped a little when Aria suddenly slammed her fist on her desk.
“Damn it, this client is getting on my nerves.” She cussed, flipping her hair as she turned to look at me. “Baby sis, you’re working in a huge company. We’re talking about the CEO here and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t know 99% of the employees in the company, so stop overthinking about what happened in the club last night. If he’s truly a flirt, he might’ve already forgotten about you after he moved on to another woman, okay? Trust me. I know men like him.”
“And yet you still choose to date men like him.” I murmured, but Aria clearly heard it as she glared at me. I smiled at her instead as I stood up from her bed. “Well, wish me luck and pray that I still have a job tomorrow.”
Aria giggled. “I’m betting my sweet little booty that you won’t get fired.”
I don’t know how I managed to do it, but somehow, I fell asleep right away that night even with a lot of thoughts running inside my head.
—
I blinked twice and I was pretty sure I heard Cameron clearly, but I had to ask him again just to make sure. I came into the office a little earlier than usual because I didn’t want to take the chance of accidentally crossing paths with the new CEO. But with Cameron’s little surprise, I don’t think I could hide from him forever.
“I’m sorry, Cameron…I mean, Mr. Messner, but did you just say you sent a recommendation to the CEO’s office to consider me for the executive assistant post?”
Cameron nodded his head but I was hoping he’d tell me I heard him wrong. “Well, the CEO wants to get an executive assistant internally because he wants someone who’s very familiar with the company and very competitive and efficient for the role and, of course, you’re the only one who’s the perfect fit for that role, Amy.”
If it was only a different situation, I would be over the moon by now even though I haven’t officially gotten the promotion, but right now, I’m torn between celebrating and wanting to have a huge tsunami wave to wash off my entire existence.
I laughed nervously. “I really appreciate the recommendation, Mr. Messner, but I don’t think I’ll be a good fit for that role.”
He looked at me with dismay and disapproval written all over his face. “Amy, I’ve seen how you worked hard all these years and I am confident that you will get this promotion. Besides, Liam wants to see you for a one-on-one interview in about ten minutes from now. There are three other employees who are vying for this post; Amy. Don’t let this great opportunity slip away.”
“But…”
“Amy, I want you to give this a try. If there’s anyone who deserves that promotion, it’s you.” Cameron insisted, and that look he gave me was a look that no one could possibly say no to.
So even with a lot of contemplations I’m having right now, I nodded my head and forced the most genuine smile I could display at that moment.
That made him happy, of course.
But for now, where do I find that reset button?
