EPISODE 8: The Rift Beyond.

578 Words
Ray stood in the endless expanse of the desert, his mind buzzing with newfound power and confusion. The Apex Predator System had changed his life in ways he couldn’t have imagined, yet he felt more isolated than ever. Harley was gone, and Morphidon prowlers were hunting him. His only solace was the system embedded in his body—the alien intelligence that promised evolution, power, and survival. Suddenly, the system’s voice echoed in his head. The host has accepted to embark on the journey towards evolution, the way of the predator. Commencing now. Before Ray could respond, a swirling vortex of shimmering light appeared in front of him, like a tear in the fabric of reality. “What is that?” Ray muttered, shielding his eyes from the blinding light. The rift pulsed with energy, beckoning him forward. Before he could have the time to ask questions, the vortex started sucking everything around into itself. The system had gone silent and a new window appeared in his view. On the window, it was written. Blue Dimensional rift activated. Selecting a suitable location according to the host’s probability of survival and evolution. Once vortex is active, host cannot escape being sucked in. Unlocking five percent of your genetic pottential for adaptation and evolution. Ray started to walk backwards, unsure of what the vortex was and trying to avoid getting sucked into it. In a few seconds, the heap of sand around had already been sucked in and Ray was already on the floor, barely able to resist the strong force that was pulling him. The force eventually overpowered his resistance and sucked him in. Immediately he went through, the rift closed and the vortex disappeared. A couple of minutes passed. Ray was in a reality-defying space, falling endlessly, surrounded by black-and-white streaks that bent over and over again, forming loops and stretching endlessly. Ray stumbled as he landed on hard ground, covered in dust and sand. The air was dense, and an overwhelming force pressed down on him. He gasped, struggling to breathe. The gravity was crushing—five times stronger than Earth’s. “System... what is this place?” he asked. Ray fell to his knees, his muscles screaming in protest. Moving felt like pushing against an invisible wall. “I can barely stand! How am I supposed to survive here?” but the system was silent again. Sweat poured down Ray’s face as he forced himself to stand. Every step was a battle against gravity. Suddenly, shadows loomed over him. A group of humanoid creatures approached, a ragtag bunch of aliens with twisted features and savage eyes. They wore tattered armor, and their weapons looked like a mix of ancient blades and advanced technology. One of them, a hulking creature with four arms and leathery skin, grinned wickedly. “Fresh meat,” the creature growled in a guttural language. Despite the unfamiliar tongue, the system translated it in Ray’s mind. Ray tried to run, but his body was too slow. The aliens closed in, shackling him with energy restraints. He was dragged through a crumbling city of alien architecture, ruins of a once-great civilization. The buildings were skeletal remains, their grandeur long faded. The air was thick with the scent of decay and despair. The aliens led him to a massive arena carved from stone and metal. Crowds of various alien species gathered, cheering and jeering as prisoners were forced to fight monstrous beasts for their amusement.
