I only know of one Suicide’s Graveyard in Scotland, although there may well be others. The one with which I am familiar is near Ardoch Fort in Perthshire, on the parish boundary with Muthill. It is a small area of unhallowed ground, for the church would not bury suicides in consecrated ground. The Sidh, or People of Peace, or fairies, seem to have existed in folklore and mythology for centuries. There are hundreds of fairy stories the length and breadth of Scotland and many theories about their origin. One of the most plausible theories suggests that the Sidh might be the people who inhabited Scotland before the Celts arrived, a pre-iron-age culture who the Celts pushed to the marginal lands.
