~Sandra~
“You are mine now Sandra, I’m never letting you go. Ever.” He whispered and my eyes which had closed in satisfaction, instantly snapped open in shock.
“Wait… what? What did you just say?” My voice shook as I stared up at Ryan.
The words echoed in my ears: “You are mine now, Sandra. I’m never letting you go. Ever.”
That was not the deal. We had set rules. It was supposed to be one night only… a single, explosive secret to give me a feeling of revenge and earn me the evidence I needed against my husband.
We were not supposed to do this ever again. So why would he say that?
But before I could demand a real answer, Ryan leaned down and captured my lips with his.
He didn't give me a chance to argue. His mouth covered mine in a deep, commanding kiss that stole the air straight from my lungs.
I tried to put my hands against his broad chest to push him back, but the moment his fingers tangled in my dark hair, my strength melted away.
Ryan shifted his weight, pressing his body against mine, kissing me like he wanted to consume me completely.
Every word of protest died in my throat. Ryan took his time, trailing his lips down my jawline to my throat, making me gasp aloud. He moved over me with an intense focus, pulling me into a storm of sensation until every lingering doubt in my mind was wiped clean.
He brought me to the edge over and over again, refusing to let me go until I was completely breathless, clinging to his shoulders as waves of intense pleasure crashed over me.
When it was finally over, I lay in the center of the massive bed, my heart hammering against my ribs, completely exhausted and thoroughly claimed.
Ryan rested his forehead against mine, his breath warm on my skin, before he finally pulled away and let me sleep.
The harsh sound of a phone buzzing on the glass nightstand pulled me out of a deep sleep.
Morning light was already streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Ryan’s penthouse. I sat up quickly, clutching the dark sheets to my chest as panic spiked through my veins.
I scrambled across the bed and grabbed my phone from the table. The screen flashed with a name that made my stomach drop: Liam… My husband.
My hands started shaking violently. “Oh God,” I whispered. “It’s him.”
I went to swipe the screen to answer, but a strong, warm hand clamped around my wrist, stopping me instantly.
Ryan sat up beside me, completely unbothered, his dark eyes sharp and alert. “Stop,” he commanded softly. “Take a breath.”
“Ryan, he’s calling! What if he knows I wasn't home last night!” I panicked, trying to pull my hand back. “If he finds out—”
“He won't find out anything unless you tell him,” Ryan interrupted sternly, his grip on my wrist firm. He looked into my eyes, his voice low and authoritative. “Listen to me very carefully, Sandra. You need to remember the golden rule. From this moment on, you are the clueless, devoted, happy wife who knows absolutely nothing of his lies and affairs, okay?”
“But… can I really pretend to be happy with him after everything? I’m not sure I have the strength to look at him the same way after knowing everything I know now.” I asked, with my voice cracking.
“Look at me Sandra, you have to be strong. Because if you show your cards now, you lose,” Ryan said coldly. “If Liam suspects for a second that you know about his affairs, he will hide his money, hire an army of lawyers, and leave you with nothing. You walk away broke and homeless. Is that what you want?”
I swallowed hard as the truth of his words hit me like a bucket of ice water. “No,” I whispered.
“Then put on your mask,” Ryan ordered, releasing my wrist. “Answer the phone. Act normal and don’t panic.”
I took a deep, trembling breath, then cleared my throat, and swiped the screen. I put the phone to my ear. “Hello? Liam?”
“Sandra?! Where the hell are you?!” Liam’s angry, demanding voice blasted through the speaker. “I came home late last night and the apartment was empty! I’ve been worried sick! Do you have any idea what time it is? Where were you?!”
I looked at Ryan. He nodded at me smoothly, mouthing the words: Stay calm.
I forced my voice to sound soft, timid, and apologetic, the exact way I had spoken to Liam for the past two years.
“I’m so sorry, Liam,” I lied, making my voice sound weak. “I… I was so upset when you said you had to work late on our anniversary. I went over to Kitty’s place to talk. We had a few glasses of wine, and I accidentally fell asleep on her couch. My phone died. I just woke up.”
There was a long silence on the other end of the line, and I held my breath, with my heart pounding in my ears… Praying he would accept my lie without question.
Finally, Liam let out a loud, dramatic sigh.
“Sandra, you can’t just disappear like that! You scared me to death! I had a terrible night at the office, and coming home to an empty house was the last thing I needed.”
A terrible night at the office, I thought, my jaw tightening. Right. f*****g another woman while mocking me was such hard work. Sorry for not knowing that.
“I know, I’m sorry,” I forced myself to say, swallowing the bile rising in my throat. “I’m on my way back right now.”
“Good. Come home quickly. I missed you,” Liam said, his tone turning sweet and fake. “I’ll be waiting.”
The line went dead. I dropped the phone onto the bed and let out a long breath, burying my face in my hands.
Ryan leaned over, brushing a stray lock of brown hair behind my ear.
“Good girl,” he murmured, his voice sending a strange shiver down my spine. “Now go back to your cage and play the part. I’ll be watching.”
Something about the way he said that last part sent shivers down my spine, but I just shook it off.
I was probably just being paranoid as usual.
