Vito, Master crook

3883 Words

New Jersey I’m sitting here, late at night, looking out over the Manhattan skyline. I’m alone in the office, and I have a bottle of red Italian wine and some pizza and bruschetta on the desk. In front of me is a contract, the sale of my company, PhoenixMedia. All I have to do is sign, and I will be thirty-five million dollars richer. It’s been a crazy ride the last five years: the ups, the many downs, the court cases, the crushing lows, the vertiginous highs. This is the story of how I became rich and successful. It started five years before when I visited my grandmother. I always saw her on Thanksgiving, and she knew I would visit. In the last few years, we would have a drink and gossip, but back in the day, she and Vito, her husband, would be the place to go for Thanksgiving Dinner.
