The self-driving car could break down, and the technicians not allowing Julia or the Robot to leave. A self-deactivate or even self-destruct button that they did not know about. That Robot would not be able to deactivate the remote access in time. Every option needed a backup scenario that they had walked through and practiced. They also knew it was a considerable risk.
