Elize I spent a good amount of time alone, occupying my mind with calculations and trying to ignore the weight of the silence around me. But later, someone knocked on the door. The sound startled me, my heart racing. "Who is it?" I asked, trying to sound firm, but my voice came out shaky. "My name is João. Alemão sent me to deliver some things," replied a young, impatient voice. I didn't know what to do, my body caught between opening the door or ignoring it. "Open the door, ma'am. I still have to go down the hill. I have to study. Help me out here, come on." I hesitated for a moment before unlocking the door, opening it slowly.
