“I can,” he said, voice low and immovable. “And I will. You’re mine, Aria.” The words vibrated through me, sinking into my skin, my bones, my wolf. His grip tightened at the side of my neck, thumb brushing over the spot he had marked. Heat flared there liquid fire shooting down my throat, across my shoulders, through every nerve. I gasped, arching into him without meaning to. Pain mingled with something intoxicating… dangerous… primal. My wolf thrashed, not in fear but in raw, desperate recognition. “No… this can’t be…” I whispered, trembling, trying to pull back, but Lucien’s strength held me firm. “You can try,” he murmured, his lips brushing the shell of my ear, “but your wolf already knows the truth. She’s awake. And she knows who we belong to.” Before I could comprehend the weight of those words, another crash shook the walls The intruders struck again. Lucien became a blur of shadow and muscle, moving with a speed that barely seemed possible. One attacker swung a blade; Lucien caught the man’s wrist mid-strike and drove him back with a force that cracked bone. Another lunged at me, but Lucien was already there, blocking the blow with his forearm, twisting sharply until the weapon clattered to the floor. But the fight had escalated metal clashing, wolves snarling, men shouting. Blood scented the air, thick and metallic. My wolf surged upward as if pulled by a string. Instincts screamed Fight. Shift. Claim. Power bubbled inside me like a dam about to burst. The world sharpened colors brighter, sounds clearer, scents overwhelming. Without thinking, I leapt forward. My fingernails elongated into claws mid-strike, slicing through steel as if it were soft leather. Sparks flew. The intruder staggered backward, eyes widening in horror. A roar tore from my throat deep, resonant, utterly inhuman. Lucien stopped mid-movement, shock flickering across his face. “Your wolf…” he breathed. “She’s awake.” Fully awake. My heartbeat thundered with her rhythm. My blood felt alive, humming with wild, ancient magic. Every breath fanned the fire inside me. We fought together Lucien and I, Alpha and awakened wolf. When he struck, I followed. When he blocked, I anticipated. When I lunged, he matched my pace perfectly. Our movements fused, seamless, synchronized, unstoppable. The intruders faltered, their confidence bleeding into fear. They took in the golden flare of Lucien’s eyes and the wild silver burning in mine and realized— They had miscalculated. We weren’t prey. We were becoming something else entirely. My chest heaved, muscles trembling with power and adrenaline. I’d never felt like this. Not strong. Not fierce. Not alive. Then A scream split the chaos. One of the men I’d knocked aside scrambled up with a knife and charged me, his face twisted with desperation. Time slowed. My wolf lunged But Lucien moved faster. He stepped between us, his hand shooting out to grab the back of my neck his thumb pressing hard over the mark he’d left. White-hot heat erupted beneath his palm—a blaze that spread through me with violent intensity. Pain. Pleasure. Bond. Claim. My wolf roared with a sound that rattled the walls. “You can’t touch her,” Lucien snarled. His voice vibrated with pure Alpha fury. “She. Is. Mine.” The intruder froze. Everyone froze. The gold of Lucien’s eyes brightened into something almost supernatural. The man’s knees buckled under the sheer force of his presence. Behind him, another attacker dropped, clutching the gashes across his side wounds my claws had carved. They stared at me like I was a monster.A threat. A prophecy. Because I was marked now. And awakened. And bonded to an Alpha whose power eclipsed anything they’d prepared for. Fear overtook their rage. Several stumbled back toward the door, eyes wide. Lucien stepped in front of me, shielding me with his body. “You feel it too,” he said softly, his voice a dangerous whisper meant only for me. “The bond. The pull. The power between us.” I nodded, barely able to breathe. My wolf howled—a sound that reverberated through the walls, through the floor, through the bones of everyone present. A warning. A promise. A declaration. I was no longer weak. I was no longer hidden. I was becoming something the world feared. Lucien leaned in, brushing his lips against mine—soft, claiming, forbidden. The kiss sent a shock through me, a surge of energy that made my knees weaken. “This changes everything,” he whispered against my mouth. “And it’s only the beginning.” The intruders panicked then, scrambling toward the exit. All except one. A lone figure remained in the doorway—tall, cloaked, unmoving. His presence seemed to swallow the light around him. While others fled, he simply stood there, watching. Waiting. Lucien stiffened. I felt the tension ripple through him like electricity. “Lucien…” I whispered, dread curling in my stomach like smoke. “Who is that?” He didn’t answer immediately. His golden gaze fixed on the shadowed figure, muscles coiled. “Get ready,” he murmured. The room seemed to shrink. The air thickened. Every heartbeat thudded like a drum in my skull. The figure stepped forward. Slowly. Deliberately. Moonlight hit his face. My blood went cold. No.No, it couldn’t be His hood fell back. A familiar face emerged. One I had prayed I would never see again. The last face I expected to be part of this attack. My breath hitched. My knees nearly buckled. “Rylan…” I whispered. My brother. Except My wolf snarled, ears flattening, teeth bared. That wasn’t recognition. That was betrayal. Hate.Danger. Lucien moved in a flash, stepping in front of me his growl shaking the walls. But it was too late. Rylan’s eyes locked onto mine. Not with fear. Not with relief. But with triumph. “I finally found you,” he said, his voice calm. Cold. Too calm. “Father was right. You’re more valuable awake than dead.” Father. The word struck like lightning. No. No. NO. Everything inside me cracked open at once. Lucien growled a sound that promised death. My heart thundered. My wolf lunged. But Rylan only smiled. And then He revealed his hand. A glowing sigil shone across his palm shaped like a crescent torn in half, mirroring the same mark burning beneath Lucien’s thumb on my neck. The same mark as mine. My stomach dropped. “That’s impossible…” Lucien whispered, stepping back as if struck. “You shouldn’t” Rylan’s grin widened. “Oh, I should,” he said darkly. “She’s not only his daughter.” He lifted his hand higher, the symbol blazing brighter. “She’s mine.” My vision blurred. My wolf roared so loudly my ears rang. Lucien froze. Selene cursed under her breath. Ronan lunged, only to be thrown back by an unseen force. A shockwave burst from Rylan’s hand, ripping through the room. I stumbled, collapsing as my wolf screamed, clawing violently inside me because the sigil wasn’t just glowing. It was calling me. Pulling me. Claiming me. My body arched, pain shooting through my spine like lightning. My vision dimmed, fading into white. Lucien reached for me and the world fractured.
