I'd never felt this way before. It was as if someone was wrenching my insides and twisting my heart over and over again. My grammy, the only person I could call my own in this cruel world, was lying dead infront of me. I had done everything I could to try and wake her up again but it was of no use. She was so cold. And she wasn't even glowing anymore. I held her hand and watched her golden hair slowly turn into rusted brown. Her sparkle left her body but she didn't vanish. What confused me was the fact about how she got killed? Was another pixie responsible for this? The sword in her heart, who could've done this? I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned to see Nessi looking at me with panicked yet sad eyes. "Hey," she whispered. "You okay?" That's what it took for me to breakdown completely. She wrapped her arms around me as I sobbed into her shoulder. She kept stroking my hair and murmuring things like 'it's okay' and 'I'm here'. But my loss was too painful for me to calm down yet and she didn't even know how grateful I was that she was here. I chose the right person to reveal my real identity to. She ran a comforting hand over my head and I could tell she was scared too, but holding it in for me. She rubbed my back as I stared devastated at Grammy's dead body. How could she be dead? My blurry vision shifted to the warlock standing in the corner of the room, staring intently at something. He came here tonight. He was the one who did this. "You!" I screamed, pulling away from Nessi who gasped at my sudden outburst. Cameron's eyes snapped to me in slight alarm. I got up and stomped my way over to him. In my rage, I didn't even notice my hair turn back to blonde and my wings spread out. My eyes turned red with pure rage as I grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against the wall. He collided with a loud thud before landing back on his feet. That throw didn't even faze him but I wasn't going to let this go. "Why did you do it?! Why did you kill her?! You-you," I screamed and sent waves of my magic towards him using my bare hands. Streams of golden and blue glitter flew over to him but he easily deflected it with a wave of his hand. "Calm down Shia. This isn't my doing!" He shouted. "No! You're the one who did it! You killed for God knows what-" I continued yelling and flinging spells at him at a worser speed. He deflected most but wasn't able to avoid all. A grape vine wrapped around his arms, wrists, ankles and neck and pulled him against the wall. I aimed my wand at his throat, ready to kill him. "Shia, no!" A female voice shrieked, distracting me. I turned to look at her for a brief second before turning back to him. My heart was hurting so much. It was as if someone was squeezing it over and over. A gazillion time. I finally knew what humans felt like. "I didn't kill her! I couldn't have even if I wanted to!" Cameron shouted, taking the opportunity. I frowned. "Pixies can only be killed by Goro's curse and humans!" "You're lying! Y-you came looking for me! To kill Grammy. You knew a pixie can be killed when stabbed in the heart by a piece of metal-" "Only by a human!" He cuts me off, shouting. I stared at him, startled. Was he telling the truth? Did that mean my Grammy was killed by a-? By the time I looked back, he had escaped from the vines and was rubbing his wrists grunting. "Bullshit!" I said lowly. He shook his head. "A pixie dies only when the killer is a human. There is no other specie that can kill a pixie, not without Goro's curse and that isn't until the next eight months." Should I believe him? There was only one way. I wretched the metal sword out of Grammy's body and tossed it to him. He caught it in his right hand and looked at me. "Do it. Stab me with it and prove it," I shouted. Nessi yelped, "Shia! Don't do this!" I didn't answer her and kept my gaze on Cameron. He strode across the room and stood infront of me, his hazel eyes burning into me, my soul. For a minute, I felt as if I could spot an entire universe in there. He raised the sword and before I knew it, he wedged it deep inside my heart with Nessie's scream in the background. I closed my eyes, ready to welcome whatever was going to happen. But nothing happened. I opened my eyes to see the sword hanging out from my chest but I was still standing. Still breathing. "Shia you've gone mad!" Nessi screamed, running over and pulling the sword out. She broke down into tears and hugged me but I couldn't keep my eyes off Cameron. He was right. Only a human could kill me. And Grammy. My eyes dropped to Grammy's lifeless body on the ground. Why would a human kill her? No one knew we were pixies and Nessi was the first person I did tell to. And if Cameron didn't do it who could've done it? My head spun a thousand times wilder before and my knees gave out, collapsing to the floor. Cameron kneeled beside me and looked into my eyes. "I won't touch your grandmother until you give me permission to," he spoke softly. Tears clouded my eyes as I stared back at his hazel ones. "W-what can you do?" I croaked. "I'll tell you everything I find out in one glance, Shia. I'm not your enemy here." My heart squeezed at what he said and I nodded. Just nodded and handed over my grandmother to him. He got up to walk over to her lifeless body which had lost all its glow and I was pretty sure she was going to disappear from sight in a few hours. An average pixie, when stabbed by metal, disappears two hours after death. And an hour had already passed. I wiped my tears with the back of my hand and stood up. I tried to look around for Nessi but I couldn't spot her. Where'd she go? On the other side of the room, Cameron had knelt before the body and was touching its shoulders and arms with his eyes closed. I wondered how much could he actually find out? I called out for Nessi but she didn't answer. I walked around and found her next to the fireplace. She was kneeling against the burnt wood looking at something. "Nessi, what are you looking at?" I asked standing behind her. She got up and turned to me, frowning. "I found this weird sort of ring, near the fireplace," she said, handing me a red ruby ring. It's band was made of metal and it looked pretty expensive. I looked at it equally confused, "I don't know whose this is." She looked at me with her eyes slightly wide, "What if this is-?" I never got to hear what she was about to say because there was a loud bang at the front door followed by heavy footsteps. I spun around my eyes fixated at the door. A man clad in a brown jacket and jeans rushed into the living room, holding out a g*n. I quickly shoved the ring in my pocket. "Don't move!" He shouted. His g*n was mainly pointed at me so I froze in place. My hair was still brown so I was safe. I had reverted back outside and my wings were still hidden. He stares at me. My eyes wandered over to his devilishly handsome face. He seemed young, maybe 23 or 24 years of age. His eyes were a captivating golden brown. His jaw chiselled and sharp and his hair fell messily over his dreamy eyes. His muscles were practically bulging out of his dark brown leather jacket and if he didn't have me at g*n point, I would've easily declared him as the most handsomest human I'd ever met in my time on this planet. His constant staring caused me to redden. His eyes darted over to Nessi before falling on my Grammy's body. Grammy's body! My breath caught in my throat as he began to approach her. "No!" I screamed and ran infront of him. Cameron had straightened up and stepped away, his hands in the air. "What the hell is going on here?!" He screamed again looking directly at me. "How'd you get here?" I counter questioned. "Her," he pointed towards Nessi who was standing at a side, "father asked me to look for her. She's been missing since 12 hours and I traced her back to here. Now move so I can see the old lady." He attempted to shove me but I refused to move. He glared at me before using extensive force. I felt myself being pulled and looked up to see Nessi tugging me away, shaking her head. "No," she whispered. He looked over the body before getting up and reaching for his walkie-talkie, presumably calling for back-up. "I can't let him do that!" I whisper-screamed at Nessi. She turned to look at him, "Dylan, I'll explain everything to you just let these two go." He shook his head, staring straight at her with those mesmerising golden eyes, "I didn't expect this from you Nessi." He was about to press the button of the walkie-talkie. I tried to move but saw Cameron motion at me not to. He fixed his hazel on it and a second later it burned out. "What the-" Dylan dropped it on the ground. "Speak to me. I am the adult here," he stepped forward. I looked at the clock. 25 minutes till the body disappears. Dylan turns to him his g*n now pointed again, "I'm sorry but all three of you were found at a murder site. I'm gonna have to arrest you this instant." He motioned towards a corner. "Step aside please. You have the right to remain silent as anything you say can or shall be used against you." When I didn't move he got angry. "Step aside I said!" He barked. I frowned. Such an unpleasant human being. I dislike him already. Nessi tugged me with her and we stood off to the side together. She didn't know that Grammy's body was about to disappear that's why she was complying with everything Detective Jerkface was saying. I had to tell her so we could get me and Grammy out of here fast. Cameron stood beside Nessi and I heard them whispering. "You're the warlock, do something," she muttered as Detective Rude fiddled around for his phone. "What do you think I'm supposed to do?" He muttered back. "You two can disappear from prison anytime you want but I can't!" Is that what she's worried about? Seriously? "Well, we can't just go poof! infront of him now can we?" So this genius doesn't know she's about to disappear either. "Then think of something else fast you bozo!" "You're calling me a bozo? The man barged in here trying to track you-" "Silence!" Detective Jerkface yelled, shutting the two up. He was now holding a cellular phone in one hand, surfing through his contacts. There was no point though, because the body wouldn't be here when they arrive. I stared at my grandmother's face for the last time since I couldn't even mourn her death properly without these humans intruding and causing a ruckus. She looked so peaceful, as if she had just been relieved of every single pain we were caused by this world and Pixie Island. I had caused her so much worry and pain. She got kicked out because of me. She stuck it here with me for so many years just for my sake. Her beautiful features looked soft and warm though I knew she was cold now. Very cold. How similar was our death to these good-for-nothing human beings. I felt tears well-up in my eyes as I watched the pixie glitter rise up from the sides of her body. It swirled around slightly. Her's was a light pink colour. She always liked it. I love you Grammy. Always have, always will. And I will kill that person who did this to you, I promise. I felt my head warm up as intense anger coursed through my body. Who in the world could do such a despicable thing? Doesn't matter. Whoever it was, I was going to find them and kill them. I watched, as Dylan and the other two talked about something mundane, the light pink swirls of glitter now began rising up rapidly and her body began to disappear out of sight. First her legs, then her arms, then her body and finally, her beautiful face. I bit back a cry as she vanished. Completely. The door burst open and two armed men marched in. It was as if they were trying to catch a war soldier rather than two teens and an adult, unarmed. "Detective! Where is the dead body?" They spoke as two paramedics marched in behind them carrying a stretcher. Sounds of multiple sirens filed the air. "It's right there," Dylan pointed confidently towards her but she'd already disappeared. The room fell silent as Jerkface scrambled around, trying to look for the dead body. "I swear it was right here!" He yelled, scratching his head and looking around. Cameron looked so calm it was as if he was watching cable tv. Nessi, on the hand, looked closed to fainting. Figures, since she learned a lot of things today. A lot more than I had intended her to know. "Detective, is this a false alarm?" One of the men asked, looking at the three of us who probably looked like fools the way were all standing. Jerkface looked at me before marching straight up to me and standing at an inches' distance from my face. He was so close that I took a slight step back, my heart already jumping. "What did you do to it?" He snarled. "W-what could I have possibly done? I was under your custody wasn't I?" I replied back less confidently. My voice was croaky and hoarse and I felt so tired all of a sudden. The men looked at Detective i***t with skeptical faces. When they saw that all he did was scramble about they turned around, apologized to the paramedics and walked out muttering something like how pulling all-nighters had made their boss go 'bonkers'. Nessi assured him that there was no dead body and that she'll go home soon. He glared at us with fiery eyes and stepped close to me. "I know what I saw. And I'll get to the bottom of it very soon," he snarled. I looked into his eyes and felt my entire body heat up. What the heck? Why did I keep reacting this way to him? Weird.
