He grinned, the same easygoing smile I remembered. “I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw you from across the room. I thought I was seeing things. What are you doing here?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” I said, trying to process his sudden appearance. “What are you doing here?”
“Came to represent my boss,” he said with a shrug. “Trust me, these kinds of events aren’t my scene. But duty calls, right?”
I nodded, understanding. “I feel the same. These gatherings feel so… suffocating.”
Ethan chuckled. “You’ve always been honest. So, are you here for work too, or…?”
I shook my head, shifting uncomfortably. “No, I’m here with my husband.”
