He was bloodied, even more bloodied than Lyra was or the black wolf.
The black wolf.
Rena surveyed the guy again, he didn’t have a single scratch on him. How was that possible?
But the thought faded as soon as it came, because a strange swirl of emotions she had never experienced before came alive in her. Like a force it tugged and pulled towards the white wolf, as if there was a string tying the both of them, a connection they both shared. She felt emotions that strangely were not her’s.
They were his.
Then she knew who he was. He was her mate. And he had come for her.
Joy swooned in her, but was outlived when the black wolf said.” We need to go now. I think that he might be one of them. But he won’t attack us because my men are surrounding us.”
Then Rena saw them, about eight black wolves closing in on the white wolf.
But either he hadn’t noticed, or he did but kept his gaze and focus on Rena.
No he wouldn’t be able to fight them.
Run. Rena thought, willing him with her mind, as if her life depended on it. She felt like it did. Somewhere deep inside her, she knew if he was killed, she’d be torn apart. Her grief would surpass anything she had felt even as she saw her sister lying undignified, on the floor, murdered in cold blood, with the rest of her family.
‘I think I’ll be safe with him. Run . pls don’t get killed’ She thought to him again, but he still stood there, his eyes not leaving her.
Why wasn’t he leaving? Couldn’t he read her thoughts? All mates did.
Or weren’t they mates?
She felt sick in her stomach at the reality of it, then he turned and scampered away, out of the Castle walls.
Rena breathed a sigh of relief, for he had left one thought in her mind.’ I’m coming back for you.’
“That was quick” The black wolf guy said, his betas transforming and one of them carrying Lyra, who grunted in pain, unto his shoulder.”I didn’t think he’d leave that easily. Probably come to finish what they started.”
Rena observed him. What was he saying? “Why did you let him go?”
“I know him. And he may or may not be involved with what happened here, but he is someone you do not want to mess with.”
“Wait, are you saying you know the people that did this? That ended my family, my pack this way” She felt her throat go dry. The grief and anger coming back to her in waves, with tears trickling down her beige cheeks.
“I have my speculations, so I don’t really know, I’m yet making investigations.”
His pack had started leaving, including the one carrying an unconscious Lyra.
“Wait!!” Rena vociferated, more to the one carrying Lyra, and the rest of the pack, than it was the one who’d saved them. “Why should I trust you, I don’t even know you. “ She frowned.
She was grateful he saved them, but she wasn’t taking any chances, she’d lost everything already.
He smiled. “My name is Luther. Alpha of the Black Stone Clan. Come on, you’re in safe hands. We need to get going, we will be in dire danger if we remain here.”
1 YEAR LATER.
Her feet clunked down the castle steps as she hurried to the buzzing scenery, wearing a brown woolen coat draped over a creamy slip outfit. Lyra followed beside her, dressed in a black sheath dress. Rena got to a partition of the stone balcony that went round the hallway providing a view of the wide castle grounds beneath and also fencing off the hall. She stopped as she surveyed the perimeter, Lyra coming up beside her and placing her hands on the stone surface. "What do you want to do next?" Lyra asked.
"Luther will soon be back, I bet he's inviting the other Alphas over."
"Will he be able to? You know how worked up and hardheaded those ones can be"
"Mostly the reason he's gone there, to appeal to them and incite them for the event . Black Stone has not held the Alpha ball in so many years, so winning the annual ball vote to be held in Black Stone is a big one for him."
"I wonder what makes them such uncrackable, hard boiled eggs" Lyra said almost unconsciously. "The wars maybe, the disasters and bloodshed, seeing as they enjoy taking over weak Clans and invading their lands. Soulless creatures. "
War. Bloodshed. This had become a daily part of Rena's visions, images she had familiarized herself with, blended them into one so that they were one and the same to her.
"Do you think they'll be in attendance? The ones that had a hand in what happened to our Clan."
Rena's features turned grim, her voice mean. "I'll sniff them out"
Lyra did a double-take. "And how would you do that?"
"Very funny Lyra"
Lyra let out a snort then sighed as she watched three cream colored wolves saunter absentmindedly across the arena, amid the many people hurrying along, the maidservants with flower baskets and freshly picked fruits, the men hanging floral draperies across archways and walls, two male omegas pushed a truckload full of fresh wine from the wine press to the stores where they were going to be sifted and packaged.
"Don't those wolves realize everyone else is busy, walking about like they don't have a care in the world what's going on " Lyra said, frowning in displeasure.
Rena chuckled. "Let them be, maybe they don't care. I wish I could be them, released from all these and freed to do what I want to . "
Lyra looked at her. "Which is exactly what Luther doesn't want you to do"
Rena scoffed. "I'll do it anyway, there's so much more I need to know and I'm not even started."
Lyra's face was cruised with wariness when she said. "Rena, don't you think you're pushing yourself too far... you've tried what you could, you might---"
"Stop." Rena closed her eyes. "Don't say anymore. I’ll find out who was behind the murder of my pack and my family and I’ll deal with them. No one is stopping me, they can try. "
Lyra replied. "Fine"
"I have to make sure things are in order before he is back" Rena sighed. "A Delta would have taken all this burden off my shoulders"
It had been one year since Luther rescued her and Lyra from the m******e at the castle. And Luther had made Rena his Luna, even though she had objected to it. But she had sooner than later realized that in the Black Stone Castle, there were a lot of things she didn’t have will or freedom to.
"So what next do you want to supervise?" Lyra asked.
She had someone she needed to meet."We'll have to head over to the cookery."
