Lyra Liam didn’t come home tonight. I told myself I didn’t care. I told myself he was probably at the office, or on one of his night drives, or maybe even at the training grounds going over new strategies with Jonathan, anything but the alternative. Anything but that voice in my head whispering that he was with her. Laika was restless also, pacing in my head like she knew something I didn’t and I hated that. I hated that I was letting myself spiral over a man I shouldn't even be thinking about. Still, every time I closed my eyes, I saw Liam’s hand tighten around his phone and the way his expression changed when he said Evelyn’s name. I was halfway through convincing myself to go to bed when my phone lit up on the nightstand. I grabbed it quickly, heartbeat fluttering pathetically. M
