CAINE Lyra was awake. Her lashes flickered. It was a subtle twitch but enough to make me sit straighter. “Lyra?” I called quietly. Her fingers moved slightly in response. “Lyra,” I called again. She finally opened her eyes, her gaze searching the sterile white ceiling before drifting down to the beeping monitors and the IVs attached to her arms. They shifted again and landed on me. “C-Caine?” She croaked. “Yes it’s me.” “Wh…where am I?” “Hospital. You fainted.” She jerked her head back in shock and blinked. Once, twice and again in rapid succession. I saw the exact moment the wheels in her head started turning and her memories came rushing back to her.
