It’s been hours since I arrived on this cursed island with my Beta, and two of my best warriors, and yet Lyra wasn’t here.

My little boy’s wobbly words repeated themselves in my head. It hadn't been much, a few scattered descriptions, hints about a river that split into two, and really tall trees, but Xavier’s words had been enough for my trackers, and enough for Aries too.
He clawed at the edges of my mind now, furious and wild.

I’d sniffed the air countless times since we landed. There was absolutely no trace of her scent. No hint of the floral undertones that always drove me crazy. All I could smell was the smoke, saltwater, and earth.
