Brix pov
The three of us were laughing about Arlo's story about the sales agent when my eyes fell on the stairs. But I quickly turned my gaze back to Arlo to make sure we weren't looking at the same scene.
He frowned due to curiosity at the sudden change in my expression and he was about to look up the stairs to find out what the reason was.
At this moment, his little nose must have reached my mate's scent, who was standing at the top of the stairs.
"Don't you dare!" if you don't want your head being separated from your neck."
I threatened him using a mind link when he was about to turn around.
"What? Oh- okay."
He was stunned, as if his neck froze and instead he turned his gaze to my mother. Who was obviously happy to finally see my mate's face.
No man will be allowed to see my mate's almost naked body.
I immediately stood up from where I was comfortably sitting and picked up the paper bag with a few pairs of clothes and underwear inside that I told Arlo to buy.
I immediately went up the stairs to my mate. Her long black hair was lying on her shoulders and she was wearing the same thing.
"Here, get dressed, then come out here for breakfast.
It's obvious that she just got out of bed.
It takes a few more seconds before she takes her eyes off my mother and then turns to me.
She was looking at my face as if she was thinking about something.
"Let's go." I put my arm around her and escorted her back to the room.
When we entered the room, I put the paper bag of clothes on the bed.
"I-I'm sorry." I turned to her when she spoke. "So this is her voice. I thought she was dumb."
"The truth is-I forgot that I am not in the same place anymore. I'm used to waking up early in the morning to work, so I left the room right away.
Her voice is weak and that suits her.
She bent down her head after she finished speaking.
"Um." Is that so? Y-you'll get used to it, don't worry."
"You don't have to wake up early here, you have no one to serve here.
She immediately raised her head to me.
"B-but-"
"You are the Luna of this pack."
She fell silent when I interrupted her excuses. I already know what she will say, so I don't need to hear it anymore.
"You are not a slave now.
You are my Luna and no one can hurt you in my territory. I will not allow that anymore.
Her eyes blinked as she stared at me as if tears would come out at any moment.
So I turned to the other things and let out a deep breath.
I didn't want to see this scene in her eyes, so I immediately avoided it.
I really hate it. To feel sorry for her. I feel like it's my fault because I didn't find her right away. That's why she has to experience the tortures that she suffered.
"Alright, get dressed and then go downstairs for breakfast."
After saying that, I started walking towards the bedroom door to go out.
"I'm sorry."
But she spoke again, so I stopped and I turned to see her.
"About what happened last night, I- I didn't mean to make you angry."
She stammered.
"Apart from being beautiful, she also has a good attitude."
For some reason her words made my stomach churn and somehow I feel much better. At least now I know that I am not such a scary person in her eyes.
I slightly bowed down my head to secretly express my happiness at hearing her words.
"Forget that, it's no big deal." I said as I turned my face back to the door.
"Alright, I'll wait for you downstairs.
I immediately went out the door. I was shaking and I felt like I had a restless horse inside my chest because it throbbed so fast.
I leaned against the door and slowly calmed down.
"I like her very much." I whispered as her face repeatedly played in my head and the way she talked to me.
But I shook out of my head all my desires.
"Come on wolf, stop your madness!"
I felt ashamed. I know I should control myself.
However, nothing can stop my lips from expressing the joy I feel.
I even bit the lower part of my lip to hide the smile that rose from it.
I'll take it as a good start.
I breathed a sigh of relief as I continued walking back down the stairs.
I thought I was good at holding back my feelings, like how I hid my palms in my pocket while going down the stairs.
"Well, looks like something good happened."
It was only then that the smile on my lips was erased when I realized that Arlo was watching me go down the stairs.
"W-what?
I pretended that I didn't know what he meant.
"Not me sir! I know you, I know even the sound and smell of your fart."
"Shut the cr*p!"
I yelled at him. As I turned my gaze to mom who was now preparing the table.
Like Arlo, something seemed to be playing inside her mind but she preferred to remain silent even though her smile that could not be erased from her lips could not hide it from me.
"Will she join us for breakfast?
Mom asked, smiling, but she didn't look at me, instead she went straight on putting all the food she cooked on the table.
"Yeah, she will."
I answered, pulling the chair where I always used to sit.
Arlo sat on the other side in front of me and one sitting apart from him was my mom.
"Cool! Then we can now talk about introducing her to the pack then."
"Yes, probably. Let us just wait for her to get here."
I said while filling up my plate.
"Then why don't you do it on your birthday, the day after tomorrow, right?
Arlo suggested.
"That's a good idea."
Mom agreed with what Arlo said. I took a bite before I looked at the two of them as I thought about their suggestion.
"All right." but we still needed to ask my mate's opinion.
"What is her name, anyway?
Mom asked. I was just looking at her while continuously chewing my food because I didn't really know what her name was.
And at that very moment I smelled her presence.
I turned to the right to look at the stairs. She was standing at the top and was going down the stairs.
Even my mother and Arlo turned that way to watch her arrival.
Her thick, long black hair is waving on the side and resting on her shoulder.
She doesn't have any makeup on her face, but I don't think she needs it.
She was naturally beautiful. Her eyelashes are long and curled up with a pair of thick eyebrows and her dark gray eyes light up even from a distance.
I don't want to admit it, but Arlo has good taste for choosing women's clothes.
It's a knee-length puff sleeve midi floral dress. Where to emphasize the beauty of her legs. She behaved very modestly.
The shape of her nose and her red lips are also perfect. I'm excited to know what that feels like.
I secretly swallowed.
Because of detailing her entirety, I was left with my mouth open.
"Hi, there you are!"
I lowered my gaze back to my plate when she finally reached the last step of the stairs where mom immediately approached her.
"How are you? I'm Brix's mom, by the way.
"I'm glad to finally meet you, dear."
Mom said softly. And even though I didn't see it directly, what was happening around me was just in the corner of my eyes.
After giving her a hug and a kiss as a greeting, she led her to sit in the empty seat next to me.
"I'm sorry, this is all I cooked for breakfast, but don't worry, I'll make it up to you later at lunch.
My mom's broad smile remains on her lips.
"I-its alright, no need. I'm not a picky eater, so you don't have to bother."
My mate stammered.
"No, I insist, just let me know what you would like me to cook. Okay?
"What about me, aunty? Can I also make a request?
Arlo, who was currently chewing his food, said. His smile was so big that he seemed to forget that I was just there in front of him.
That's why that smile of his immediately disappeared when his eyes landed on me.
"Don't you have a mother? Why are you asking her to cook for you? And when did your alpha's mother become your cook?
I scolded him using a mind link.
And I think I brought him back to his right mind after what I said, because he fell quiet and continued eating.
I met Arlo when my mother brought me here and, since then, he has been my constant companion.
He's like a brother to me, so it's no wonder that sometimes he forgets that I'm his alpha. And that's no big deal to me. I just need to remind him sometimes that he's overdoing it.
"By the way, what's your name?
"I asked this question to Brix but he didn't answer.
Mom said.
She turned to me as if she couldn't understand what my mother had just said.
She stared at me for a moment before she turned her eyes to my mother.
"I'm Cassandra Johnson."
After saying that, she looked at me where our eyes met.
"They also call me Sandra." That answer was for me. Her eyes commanded me not to forget that name.
And how can I do that when, even though I don't know her name yet, she's already stuck in my mind.
My eyes fell on her lips and I could feel the call of our bond, something that makes me more excited.
And the way she looked at me, I knew we felt the same.
