Why cant I tell them the truth?

I could tell that my mate wasn't too happy with my need to find her. I guess it didn't make any sense from his perspective. How do you go about telling you other half, your everything that I am destined to die to save the world? As soon as I saw and felt her powers, I felt it on a fundamental level, that the girl that protected everything I ever was or could ever be, is the reason I would die. The connection that Alex and his pack felt to his father would have snapped. If this was an Alpha fight the whole pack would have witnessed it then pledged their loyalty to the victor. Since it wasn't a challenge over ruling, only the stragglers that witnessed the challenge and wanted to watch the fight were there.  No one else had gotten over the shock that such a strong Alpha had been bested by a little girl and even if the shock wasn't there, the speed at which she left, they wouldn't have been able to even say goodbye let alone anything else.

We ran after her and barely managed to pledge ourselves. Having been raised in a pack he was accustomed to the ideal of submitting to a stronger power, me not so much. The desire was too strong not to, after all she would save the world… she had too. I couldn’t risk the end of the world, and I was told I had to stay with her.

She ran away and I couldn't do anything about it except give up the chase because she was trying to hide from us. If I pushed her too hard she would run away from me specifically and I wouldn’t be able to play my part. So I took Alex and decided to find our way around school and hope she does come back to us. The ground rumbled beneath our feet and above us a dragon took off. “Holy s**t, that’s a dragon” I murmured in shock. 

Alex’s chuckle rumbled through my body, lighting all my nerve endings on fire. “My beautiful little witch, he might be a dragon but I would kill Paxton just for looking at you the wrong way” Of course I start to panic, who wouldn't be, a  wolf against a dragon. “Darling, darling, that is the dean's son. I've been fighting with him since I was a child. I would do anything to protect you, you have to believe me at that, please please believe me on that.” he pleaded with me. I know he would protect me with his dying breath, that scared me more than anything. 

Since I met Alex and felt our bond deepening, I’ve been doing research on mate bonds trying to figure out if he will be fine when I’m gone. If it doesn’t kill him he has a possibility of receiving a secondary mate from his goddess, Luna. 

I don’t want to die, but I really can’t take the thought that my mate will suffer terribly. I can't out run my fate, there’s too much resting on my shoulders. I take Alex’s hand and pull him to a wide open space where multiple shifters were running around in their animal forms. I have only seen glimpses of his wolf form. I want to take it all in, I want to be with him and learn everything about him. “Shift please, I want to actually meet him. I want to play with him, please” I asked timidly. Pure joy lit up his face as he stripped. With a feral grin among his face and lust shining in his eyes. With a playful growl he shifted into a wolf that went to my waist at around 5’5” his wolf must have been at around 4 feet. He was solid black and looked more playful than a puppy with its favorite toy.

He glowed playfully at me and sunk to the ground reading himself to pounce. I giggled and backed away slowly and a predatory gleam shone in his beautiful yellow eyes, seeing that look was all the encouragement I needed to turn and run. I turned around mid-sprint to make sure he was following, I pulled up short as he was nowhere in sight. With a frown tugging my smile down I turned away to pout, and was talked to the ground. I let out a yelp and raised my hands to cast a spell on my attacker, when suddenly a very naked and very hard Alex was laying his body along top of mine. With a very possessive growl he claimed my lips in what I hoped was a never ending kiss.

As I was sliding my hand down the hard planes of his stomach that I couldn't wait to explore. A solid thud grabbed our attention from what would have ended up with us completely mated to each other. He shifted suddenly standing over me to protect me against whatever made the thump. From behind a few trees I could see a reddish color so I got up to explore to run right into Alpha. I grabbed her suddenly so she would not move away. "I'm so sorry I never meant to run you away. Please please please don't do that again. We will give you all the space you need but let us know where you are and that you haven't been taken against your will." I begged profusely. At the look on her face I quickly stammered out "f**k that's not what I meant. You are stronger than us both and don't need our protection but we offer it willingly. We just want to help you. I'm so f*****g stupid…"

Her laughter rang out loud and clear interrupting my stammered spiel. I was a little confused as I backed away and I stumbled letting out a screech. Which only made her laugh harder at my embarrassment. Before I could hit the ground, warm hands pulled me up and into a rigid body. "Lexi, my dear, come here" she gasped out between breaths. This was the most emotion I've ever seen from her, so I gladly stepped forward… or attempted. Alex’s grip on me was that made of stone I moved maybe an inch while trying to go to her. In my distraction I hadn't really realized he had been growling at her the entire time. Mia seemed to realize I couldn't physically move so she came to me instead. Hopefully Alex doesn't bite her. Her warm hands rested on my face as he stiffened even more. Slowly as to appease my upset shifter she moved her face to mine and rested her nose against mine and released a deep breath. As if she had been the one I was making out with a minute ago. "Thank you love" she muttered quietly. "Thank you both" she raised her head to look into Alex's eyes and continued, "I needed some space and you let me have it". She turned away from us, " I don't think I will be a good Alpha… or a friend, I can't offer you anything. Why me?" She dejected spit out. 

I went to take a step forward expecting to be pulled back but it seems even my mate knew I was needed. Or not, as we walked past me to her. I was rather upset that another woman would see my mate naked but she didn't even move her eyes from the tree in front of her. Alex motioned me to hurry up. As I got closer he started to speak "you might not think you're much, but we do. Lexi pushed the idea onto me to leave behind a pack where I could be Alpha to be in this ragtag pack. We don't want perfection, you proved that you're anything but. We aren't asking for friendship" he stated as he grabbed our hands. "We are already much more than that. We are family and family is friendship that can't end ever." 

She slowly looked up at us with confusion in her eyes. "No one wants to be family with someone who can't even remember her own family. How do you know I'm not a monster that will destroy you?" She spit out as if it were acid instead of words as she absent-mindedly rubbed her shoulder.

With that I actually laughed, stealing her attention. "Mia, if you are a monster then the angels are demons in disguise. You stood up to a powerful Alpha to protect a stranger. No one else did, they were going to let him take me, but not you." When I was done speaking I was pulled into a bear hug and thanks was whispered in my ear. 

She pulled a schedule out of her pocket and started to ask about the classes. I grabbed both from our bag to compare while Alex put his clothes back on. Looks like we were all going to be in the same first class, combative techniques. Sounded like a fight club, I pity who ends up with her as a partner. With that the first bell rang, and off to class we went attempting a cheerful mood. How could I though? She doesn't want to hurt us, and I helped convince her she wouldn't, but I lied she is going to destroy us both.
