PROLOGUE: SAGADA
YNNA
The cold breeze touches my skin as we took the bulky road towards Sagada, my dream destination. Maybe because I'm into Cup of Joe's music back when I was still in college. Their music feed my soul, and somehow they helped me a lot.
(Sagada is a town in the Cordillera Mountains, within the Philippines' Mountain Province.)
While looking outside the window of the car, the foggy surrounding made me feel comfortable in my seat while I'm listening to music.
(Song Playing: Wait by Over October)
Waiting on someone who'll never be yours,
It sounds stupid, bizarre. But you stay a little more,
Yes, you wait. Oh, you wait.
As I listen to the song, my eyes wandered around. I remember everything from the very beginning.
From how it started until how we ended, it may sound a little stupid but love comes in the most unexpected ways.
We don't know when will the story start, if it's on the first gate of the university or in front of the penguin statue, or most probably on the staircase towards the exit of the College of Engineering.
We don't know if the story will be for a long period of time or you'll just get yourself hurt by that person over and over again because in the end, you're just a stopover towards his rightful destination.
We also don't know if that person will enter your life to make you whole or that person will eventually hurt you even more.
But then, even though pain changes people in so many ways. It was intended to teach us a lesson.
We don't know how will the story end, if it'll be a happy ending for the both of you or you'll slip from each other's arms to grow on your own, to be a better person because you can't grow with each other (together). And also, many people says that,
"If you really belong together, in the end you'll still find your way back home."
(Song Playing: Wait by Over October)
Imagination, fantasy, it's all in my head.
All the things, we would've said,
This addiction won't end.
While I wait, Oh, while I wait.
Waiting are for those people who still doesn't want to move forward from the past. People who are still hoping for a continuation of the story that is needed to pause for a while.
It didn't end, but instead their heart just needed to rest for a while to avoid hurting themselves even more. And also, the ending of the story will be written as soon as their path will cross once again.
I came back to my senses when I felt that someone tugged my earphone away, "Ynna, don't be so dramatic in there. It doesn't look good on you, okay? Let's go! Sagada's waiting for us!" Ali exclaimed with excitement while she's fixing her hair.
I just sighed before putting my earphones back on my bag and followed them immediately because they already got out of the car.
I looked around and I saw how people interact with each other. Despite of the coldness of the entire place, I can see the smiles plastered on their faces and I can hear their laughter.
Some are families, some are circle of friends and there are lovers too.
"Follow me, I'll lead you to our cabin!" Ali said before leading the way, so we followed her while carrying our backpacks and hand bags.
We'll be staying here for at least three days because we need to go back in Baguio for work. We just took advantage of the long weekend vacation to relax and have fun, because work's stressing us too much.
I moved closer to Meg while we're walking, "Ali looks freaking excited." I commented while looking on Ali's direction.
She chuckled, "I'm also excited but I'm not hyper as she is." She answered that made us laugh.
"By the way, the engineer who will make your house's also here in Sagada. Do you want to meet him?" Meg asked.
I shook my head before answering, "I'll just meet him in Baguio, we're here to enjoy."
When we arrived in our cabin, we drop our things on the floor before we started making a list of tasks and the person in charge for it.
We even chose our beds and luckily, I got the lower part of the bed (in a double deck type of bed) because I'm turbulent while sleeping. And even though there's a metal for support, I still don't want to risk it. I don't want to fall and break my bones.
"Ynna, you're going to cook later! There's a near mini wet market around." Ali said so I nodded before I continue folding my clothes neatly.
I plan to take a shower before buying some ingredients for our dinner later so I looked on the wall clock above me and I saw that it's just passed three o'clock in the afternoon.
When I'm done folding my clothes, I saw that both of my friends are already sleeping in their beds that made me chuckle lightly.
I walked towards the bathroom to get a hot shower and when I removed all the clothing that covers my body, I felt the cold temperature hugging my nakedness.
I didn't stay too long inside the bathroom because of the coldness, I even took a shower as fast as I could and I just wore a thick black leggings and a large pull over to ease the coldness. Before leaving the cabin, I took my phone and wallet with me.
I decided to ask directions from strangers rather than waking Ali up because I don't want her to spit fire on me. It's because she doesn't want being disturb when she's in deep sleep.
While I'm walking on the bulky road to search for the mini wet market that Ali's talking about, my eyes widen when I saw a little boy fell on the ground.
He started crying so I immediately picked him up to check if there are bruises in his knees and I breath in relief when I found nothing, "Hey, stop crying already." I told him, he looked at me while sniffing.
I smiled, this little boy's really cute!
"Ab-ba!"
I looked at him while he's raising his arms, waiting for me to carry him so I looked around and when I saw no one's approaching, I carried the cute little boy since he looks like he's about to cry again if I won't give him what he wanted.
"What's your name?" I asked him.
He smiled while pointing himself before saying, "Cathper" continuously. He looked happy, even though I don't understand what he's trying to say.
I just laughed while pinching his chubby cheeks. He started pouting his lips when he's tired saying his name.
A few minutes later, I almost held my breath when I heard a loud voice coming from my back.
"Casper!"
The little boy I'm carrying immediately looked around, "D-dada!" He shouted back before wiggling so that I can put him down so I obliged, without turning back I walked forward.
But after a few walks, someone grabbed my left arm to make me face whoever he is.
"Miss ─." He stopped when I looked around to face him, to face the man who left me. I smiled before looking at the little boy's direction.
"That's why the kid looked really familiar. Hello, Casper. It's been a longtime." I greeted him.
I guess Cup of Joe's right when they said that,
Our story will end in Sagada.
I'll end everything to free myself. I will shout all the heartaches and pain that the past made to stop me from moving forward. I was happy to share the same playlists with you, but everything has come to an end.
(Cup of Joe is a band in the Philippines, some of their tracks are Sagada, Alas Dose, Sinderela, Nag-iisang Muli.)
