Chapter 2
Olivia rushed to the hospital as the police put an end to the protest. She couldn’t put her mind in one place as different thoughts crowded her mind.
“What could have happened to dad?” She thought, tears running down her face.
Olivia rushed into the hospital room, her heart pounding with worry. She found her father lying in the bed, looking pale and exhausted.
"Dad, what happened? Are you okay?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Her father managed a weak smile. "I'm fine, sweetheart. Just a little scare with my blood pressure. But the doctors say I'll be alright."
Tears welled up in Olivia's eyes again. "I was so scared, Dad. I can't lose you."
Her father reached out and took her hand, squeezing it gently. "You won't lose me, Liv. I promise."
Olivia sniffled, trying to compose herself. "I don't know what I'd do without you. I could not breathe when I got the phone call”
Her father's expression softened. "Hey, listen kiddo. Your old man is fine, I just need more rest and besides there’s something I need to talk to you about."
"What is it, Dad?"
"There's a charity gala tonight, and I was supposed to attend. But obviously, I can't go now. I want you to go in my place."
Olivia's eyes widened in surprise. "But Dad, you're in the hospital. I can't leave you here alone."
Her father shook his head. "I'll be fine, Liv. And besides, it's for a good cause. I know how much you love supporting charities."
Olivia bit her lip, torn between her concern for her father and her desire to help others.
"Dad, are you sure?"
Her father nodded. "Absolutely. It would mean a lot to me if you went."
Olivia sighed, knowing her father was right. "Okay, I'll go. But only because you asked me to."
Her father smiled gratefully. "Thank you, Liv. You won't regret it, I promise."
“I better not” She formed a small smile as she wiped the tears still on her face.
“The gala is by 8pm so you should go get ready now”
“But dad?!” She said
“I just got here and I want to still spend time with you” she added.
“I’ll be fine Liv. People are outside the room 24/7” he said gently rubbing her hands.
“Take care of yourself dad, I mean it”
As Olivia reluctantly left the hospital room to get ready for the gala, she couldn't shake the feeling of worry for her father. But she also felt a sense of pride knowing she was honoring his wishes and supporting a cause he cared about deeply.
She rushes into the hotel completely forgetting the whole protest this morning. Finally arriving at her room, she wants to sit when her phone rings.
“Hey Jake” she said as she answered the call.
“Olivia, where are you” he said worried.
“It’s a long story, come to my dads hotel and make arrangements for a makeup artist and a dinner gown” Olivia said while sitting on the chair facing the queen sized bed in her room.
“Are you going somewhere that I do not know about?”
“You’re my assistant not my boyfriend so please just do as I said” she said, already getting irritated with everything.
“I’m sorry, I would be on my way now”
She hung up.
She sinks into the chair with thoughts of how her dad is doing and how this event is going to turn out. Feeling anxious and confused she decides to meditate. Something her mom thought her when she was little.
“Okay, breathe in Olivia” she whispered as she slowly pressed her eye lids together. Relaxing her body even more.
“Breathe in, breathe out” she repeated as she listened to herself breathing for a while.
“This is not- ” she was interrupted by a sudden knock on the door.
“I’m coming!” She said as she got up using her left leg to push her shoes out of the way before opening the door.
“I got everything you need” Jack said as he made his way inside the room with a whole team following behind.
“Hi Olivia” Tricia, one of the girls in the team said excitedly as she laid the dress she held on the bed.
Olivia forced a weak smile back at her.
“So what’s going on” Jake said, still confused with everything happening.
“We are in the middle of strong cases for you to be asking for a glam team don’t you think?” He added. His eyes fixed on Olivia.
“I’ll explain everything. But for now let’s get started, I have to be out by 8” She said placing a chair at the vanity mirror in the room where her makeup will be done.
As Tricia and the rest started with her makeup and the other fittings for the gala, Jake could only stare in confusion.
“I’m representing my dad at a charity gala tonight” Olivia said as she broke the silence.
“A charity gala?” Jake replied with a lifted eye brow
“Yes. My dad was meant to attend but seeing his health conditions I had to say yes” she responded.
“But this is not the time Olivia. Not in the middle of a court case or pending protests” Jake said worried
“And we both know that these events will be swarming with people meant to be behind bars” he added.
Tricia tilted Olivia’s face upward as she drew the eyeliner “I get you’re worried and concerned but I will be fine. That is a promise”
Jake couldn’t come to terms with everything happening. He knew rich big shot men will be present and Olivia wil surely captivate them with her beautiful eyes and the softness in her voice. He felt uneasy
“She’ll be fine” he thought, trying to push away any other thoughts he might have.
“The car is ready” Jake said as he checked his phone.
Olivia, already fitted in a red silhouette dress that hugged her in all the right places and the gorgeous updo that the team nailed perfectly, quickly picks up her bag as Jake informs her about the ride.
“Are we all set?” He asked as he turned to face Olivia.
“You look, you look” he struggled to complete his words
“Late. I look like someone who would be late if we do not leave now” she said as she adjusted the strap of her dress.
“Right” he said firmly. “Let’s head out”
As she got into the car, she felt anxious as to what the night had in store. Her mind also wondered if her dad would ever be okay.
The clear sky and cool night breeze kissed her face softly as she slowly rolled the windows down, allowing her thoughts to go with the wind.
“It’s miss Olivia Green!” Some people outside the gala said as she was assisted out of the vehicle.
“It’s going to be one night” she sighed as she stepped into the gala.
Calm music, good food and guests filled up the place and made a huge room look small. She spots Dr Roshan, one of her dads old friend.
“Evening sir” she said with a pleasant smile.
“Olivia Green in the flesh” he said grinning from ear to ear.
“I’m sorry your dad couldn’t be here but I am sure glad to see you” he added.
“Good to see you too sir” she smiled. “I’m going to get something to drink” she said.
“Sure, help yourself out” pointing to the direction of the drinks table.
“Won’t it be funny to mix up a drink to match my dress?” She said to herself as she chuckled slightly while standing at the drink table.
“A beautiful woman that makes herself laugh, now isn’t that interesting” a husky voice from behind her said.
Sending shivers down her spine, she turns abruptly to see who it was.
