Chapter 3
As she turned around to see the figure hovering above her. The ability to speak was not functional at that moment. Their eyes both sparkling like they found an old friend.
“I , I’m Olivia” she stuttered.
“Nice to meet you Olivia, I’m Alexander” he said as he stretched out his right hand for a handshake.
“Firm grip. Seems you’ve been in the gym more than your office” they both laughed.
“I know you from somewhere, I can’t just place it” she said, trying to scan his face.
“Business tycoon, CEO, investor. I’m pretty sure you must have seen me one too many times” He said as he sipped the glass of wine he was holding.
“I’m surprised your head isn’t bigger than it is with all the boast you just did” she smiled as she picked up the glass she just mixed and tasted it.
“Good enough to be a barrister?” He mocked as she took a sip of her drink.
“Atleast the awful taste will kill me so I don’t have to listen to you listing more accomplishments” she smiled at him as she took another sip.
“What brings you to a charity gala if you don’t mind me asking” he said, his gaze fixed on only her.
“My dad is a renowned environmental activist and so he gets invited to events like this because he donates a lot to good causes” she said as she smiled at the thought of her dad.
“Oh I see, but that didn’t still answer the question of why you are here”
“I am also an environmental activist. I live for events like this and my dad could not also make it so I am honored to even be here”
“Now my turn, why are here?” Olivia throws the question back at him.
“Well, I took over my dads business few years ago and investing in good causes is my second name” he laughed.
Olivia stared blankly at him.
“Sorry bad joke” he cleared his throat.
“But I am surprised that you really don’t know who I am” he added.
“Well New York is a big city. I really can’t know every business tycoon there is, but with the size of your head I’m sure I’d recognize you from a mile away” She said
“Okay you have a point” Alexander said as they both laughed.
“ I think the main event is about to start, would you like to grab a seat?” He offered.
“Sure”
“Thank you all for the time, the donations and the efforts from every individual or organization present here today” Dr roshan said as everyone got seated.
“ Few speeches and new projects would be presented shortly. Have a wonderful rest of the night” He said while raising the glass in his hand.
As different speakers came to explain how the event has been impactful. Olivia caught herself distracted as she stole glances of Alexander. His perfume so intoxicating, he could woe a room full of women.
He placed his warm palm on her lap, snapping her back to reality. “ Do you have a speech to present?” He whispered
“No” she said still feeling his hand on her lap.
“Will you follow me? I want to show you something”
She thought for a second before reluctantly agreeing. As they left the party. He took her to the top floor of the building.
“This, this is beautiful” she said looking down at the city. Being th at high made the whole world feel so small.
“This is probably a really off topic sentence and random as well but I haven’t been able to take my eyes of you since our silly encounter and me bringing you up here was to not only show you how beautiful the city looks in your eyes but how beautiful you look in my eyes” Alexander said inching closer to her.
“That is such a sweet statement” she said while smiling not denying the intense chemistry between them.
As he got closer to her. His hand tilted her head upward gently. He could feel her breathe on his fingers.
“I would really love to kiss you right now” he said so softly it made her weak.
“Then, then go for it” she whispered.
As he lowered himself, his hot exhale on her face made her close her eyes already. He pressed his lips against hers and the tension between them increased, one could only imagine the intensity of the kiss.
Olivia pulled away as she was snapped back to reality by her phone ringing.
“Hope you aren’t Cinderella running back by 12” He said with a grin.
Not paying much attention to what he said, she answered the call. A sigh of relief and a slight smile was plastered on her face as she ended the call.
“What’s wrong” he asked.
“It was the hospital. My dads not feeling too well but they just informed me that he is much better and would be discharged tomorrow “
“Oh that’s great”
“Yeah it is” she said as there was an awkward silence that even a pin drop could make a sound.
“Was that too forward?” He said breaking the silence
“What do you mean?” She asked confused
“The kiss. Was it too soon? I mean we just met. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable”.
“No no it’s fine, I also wanted to. It’s just that I didn’t expect to be at a charity gala kissing a man I knew few hours ago” she said as she nudged his shoulder while smiling.
“I had a great time tonight so thank you”
“I would love to do it again though if you are up to hear more accomplishments “ he said with a smile while handing her his business card.
“Sure, why not” she said as she collected it and put it in her purse. Not taking note of the name of the company written on the card.
“I think we should head downstairs so we don’t miss any important information” Olivia said as she wore her purse properly.
“Sure, after you” he gestured.
As they got back to the party. It was already coming to an end with few appreciation speeches.
“I’m glad I didn’t miss this one” Alexander said as they walked out of the building reporters still swarming outside.
“I’m glad I didn’t either” she said, a smile on her face.
“My ride is here so I’ll see you”
“Alright goodnight beautiful” he said as he watched her go to the vehicle already parked outside. As her silhouette figure slowly disappeared into the light of the night, he could only reminisce of the kiss they shared.
“I really don’t know who you are but I do know that I’d make you mine and that’s a promise” he thought to hinself as he stood there.
“What a night!” She said as she setlled into the back sit of the car. The only thing she could think about was the kiss they shared.
“I really kissed a stranger didnt I ?” She thought to herself.
As the night breeze blew against her face from the window she had rolled down, she is quickly snapped back to reality by the unstable movement of the vehicle.
“What’s happening” she asked scared
“The breaks! The breaks aren’t working” the driver exclaimed, panic in his voice.
“What do you mean?!” Olivia asked already trembling with fear.
As she raised her head to the road, the last thing she saw was an oncoming vehicle that came straight at them. There was a loud bang as the two cars collided. Not a single ray of hope from such impact.
