Chapter One

Cyrena's POV 'Mate!' I paused, the plate containing a fruit salad that I held shaking in my hands. I shook my head, to be sure I wasn't hallucinating or hearing things. Then it stilled, the growling in my head, the uneasiness and nervous tingling sensations at the end of my throat, it all stopped. "You look like you've just seen a ghost, are you fine Cy?" I turned to face Debbie; my only friend and chuckled nervously. "It's nothing, I just thought that I-" 'Mate!' My wolf growled, this time it was more assertive and firm, I was startled and shocked by its intensity such that the plate almost slipped from my hands. Debbie reached out instantly to help me regain my momentarily lost balance and I couldn't explain the phenomenon I was going through. "You should probably rest, you look weird." Debbie suggested, taking my arms. I nodded approvingly, barely had I taken two steps that a celestial scent invaded and tingled the sinuses in my nose. It was a holy mixture of mint, grasses and petrichor, weird combination but out of this world shade of bliss. Slowly and instinctively, I turned around and gasped rather loudly, the plate finally slipping off my hands causing a loud crash as it shattered on the ground. In front of me stood the most beautiful man in the world, as the lights shone on him I suddenly noticed that his hair wasn't dirty blonde like my brain had earlier registered but it had a shimmer to his golden color. His face screams royalty and grace, my eyes trailed from his ocean blue eyes that held a particular stillness to his pointed nose with a touch of flare, down to his lips, his flawless lips which looked temptingly alluring, I subconsciously smacked my own lips, almost tasting his on mine. "Peach." I muttered underneath my breath. That was what his lips would taste like, peach. He was immaculate, perfectly sculptured and fine written all over him. Everything seems to freeze at that moment and all that was left was me and him or so I thought as I shamelessly gawked at him. "Mate!" He growled. I snapped out of my reverie and my hands flew over to my mouth, covering them. His eyes were now reddened as he pursed his lips. "Alpha- alpha Tyrell." I stammered. He didn't say a word and I instantly got shy and looked away, I couldn't believe my eyes or my luck, the alpha is my mate! My wolf leaped for joy inside of me and I shyly picked on my fingers, gently swinging my shoulders. "I, Alpha Tyrell Macalister of the Redwolf claw pack hereby-" He cut his words short, as if asking for my permission or name but it was weird since he knows who I am, I mean; we've met before and talked though it was a short period of time yet it was something. "Cyrena, Cyrena Phillips." I reminded. "I, Alpha Tyrell Macalister of the Redwolf Claw Pack hereby reject you Cyrena Phillips as my mate." He rejected me. Nothing, I felt nothing for the first three seconds but afterwards, the pain came coursing through every artery, vein, capillaries and portal in my body. It was excruciating, my knee suddenly went numb and I could feel my heart refusing to pump blood, it was like my blood clot and blocked all veins in my body. Pain, terror, that was all I felt. My eyes stung with tears and I looked at him, he wasn't remorseful, rather his gaze held an indifferent expression. I wanted to speak but nothing proceeded out of my mouth but instead, a lump the size of pea suddenly appeared in my throat, threatening to cut off my oxygen supply. Seeing that I was struggling, he turned and sauntered away, no words, no explanation, no reasons whatsoever, he just rejected me and left and there I was, left to deal with the aftermath and no one, I mean literally no one there knew what had happened not even Debbie, just me. YEARS LATER "Where's my favorite Doctor going to this time around?" "Get your hands off my stuff Freddie, we're leaving by morning and that's the last of my luggage, don't you dare touch them with those germ infested hands of yours!" I scolded. "What? I didn't even say anything about the luggage." Freddie pouted. I turned around to face him as I was previously putting on a cucumber face mask. "Freddie, we both know that you're cunning and that was your true intentions, you should go to sleep now, it's going to be stressful tomorrow." I advised him. He laughed and walked up to me, smoothing out the mask and I moaned in satisfaction. "What are you two doing? Are you trying to seduce my best friend or what?" We both turned to see Debbie saunter towards us and I chuckled. "Where were you little one?" I asked, playfully. "Saying goodbye to everyone?" Debbie uttered, taking a seat beside me. "We already did that a week ago. We leave tomorrow, remember? You need your beauty rest, do I need to remind you of how the pack works?" I scolded. "I know, I know, it's just hard leaving all these behind you know, it's been years, we've studied, graduated and even started out a decent life here, working, famously famous and now we have to move to the pack? I like it here better." Debbie complained. I laughed. "The pack needs us, that's our source, there's no how famous and successful we can get that we'll dump and forget about them." I reminded her and she nodded. "I'm so excited to see all of that and work with the best two people and friends in my life! What do think it's going to be? Will the wolves be cute? Dreadful or scary as in the movies?" Freddie asked, curiously and excitedly. "You're Human Freddie, these things shouldn't interest you, you should stick to being in a lab and working your pretty ass off, not gallivanting around." I joked. Freddie tsked. "You're only saying that to scare me, you don't bite so I'll be just fine, besides; Deborah would not let anything happen to her favorite human." he pouted and Debbie knocked him on the head and he winced in pain. "I've told you to never call me by my full name you arrogant fish head!" Deborah scolded him. "You're a bully!" he cried and stuck out his tongue. Debbie and I laughed, he is our friend, after we left the pack, he was the first friend we made in medical school and it just stuck, we three became best friends and family and now he's volunteering to also work with us, for the pack. "Go to bed, both of you!" I ordered. They frowned and jumped on my bed, I chuckled, softly and joined them there, we all had a pillow fight, running my facial mask but I didn't care, I was with my family and I couldn't ask for more. Slowly, I drifted to sleep after we we're done, dreaming of the pack and the memories of it that I brought along with me.
