Cyrena's POV
The girls flinched as the glass shattered on impact, spilling it's content on the floor.
"Good heavens Cyrena! What is wrong with you?" Kiera asked, confused.
I chuckled nervously and tried to regain my composure.
"I'm sorry, it must have slipped out of my hand by accident, how can a Doctor be clumsy?" I joked, in order to cover up my nervousness.
They laughed at my joke, getting the point
"I'll have someone clean it up, it's no big deal, I just hope I didn't spill anything on this killer dresses of yours because damn girl! You've got fine written all over you!" I said, hyping the two.
They blushed satisfactorily, the two girls were vain and cares a lot about their appearances, back in high school, I'd always get them to do some work by just praising their looks and at the moment, my mind was in tumult and I just needed to have a clear head about things so I simply did what I could to sabotage the situation.
"Really? I got it from-"
Then my mind trailed off as she went on and on. A little lump formed in my throat as I found it hard to digest the fact that Tyrell would be here soon. Tyrell; a name that I dreaded for years, one I dare not utter for the fear of the pain and memories that accompanied it. A maid came and cleaned the mess but I was still unsettled. I didn't know what to do, I have envisioned how our meeting would be.
If I had the choice, I'd avoid avoid Tyrell for the rest of my life but he was the alpha and I was in his pack, there was no way I would escape seeing him but I never thought or prepared for the chances of seeing him the exact day I return home. It was going to be really awkward and I could picture me embarrassing myself. I was restless, asking tons of rhetorical questions in my head.
The most persistent one was how I would face the man who rejected me, the same man who gave me a taste of hell and excruciating pain, I could still feel the leftover of the pain in my chest which wasn't pleasant. No one knew he had rejected me or we were mates. Infact, it was at a party, our after-party after graduation and the place was noisy, I wondered how it was I could hear what he said over the noise but I am forever glad else everyone would have known what transpired between us.
"Are you sure the alpha is going to be here?" I asked Karlene, interrupting her rant about a shopping spree.
"Of course, it's an open secret. He should be here by now, don't you know? He insisted on sponsoring this welcome party though your parents refused, he's to welcome a prominent member of the pack, you think he won't show up?" Karlene revealed.
My breath began to hitch and though it was in the middle of winter, I was sweating profusely and heavens know that I would have passed out if it had continued a little longer but I felt frightened as someone touched me.
"May I steal the star of the night for a moment, please?" I turned to see Jackson who asked politely.
"And why would we let you do that?" Kiera asked, defiantly.
Jackson chuckled loudly.
"Because you two are fine ladies and you wouldn't mind if I just grab her attention for just few minutes, I promise to return her to you." Jackson flattered.
"Why would you want to do that?" Karlene questioned.
"Because I'm a huge fan of your eccentric blue eyes, if I didn't know better I would have argued that you aren't human but an embodiment of beauty and the reincarnation of the goddess of beauty, you should be a model, your figure coupled with your posture and welll sculptured face? Even Leonardo da Vinci can never pull off such beautiful and exquisite work of art, trust me." Jackson uttered, Karlene blushed.
The ladies consented to it as they blushed at his handsomeness and he took me to a more quieter part of the room, offering me an handkerchief.
"You look tensed." He uttered.
"Is it evident?" I asked, worried my parents would see it.
"I don't think no one noticed, you handled it quite well, I wasn't sure at first and thought it was just a mistake when the glass broke and-"
"Oh my god! Did that draw everyone's attention?" I panicked.
"Yes it does but you did a great work of masking it and everyone thinks it's just a mistake, everyone makes mistakes every now and then and you're not exempted, but-"
I looked at Jackson as his voice trailed off, he seemed to look around cautiously before speaking.
"But I know that you're a careful person and a glass wouldn't just slip out of your hands because of a mistake so it had to be something the girls said." He revealed.
"How sure are you?" I retorted.
"Well, you only dropped the glass after some discussion and then you laughed nervously, said something to them and they kept on talking while you looked at your fingers, you don't make eye contact with them which means whatever it is they had mentioned made you nervous and restless and again, you did a good job of masking this as you would chuckle and smile in-between to give them the impression that you were listening while in reason sense, you weren't so you're bothered by something or someone." Jackson explained the rationale behind his conclusion.
His words suddenly made me be at ease at that moment and I was glad I chose him as my colleague, his smartness and ability to figure things out almost instantly attracted me to him in the first place.
"You really live up to your name, isn't it?" I praised.
"Of course, I'm friends with you, I'm not allowed to be mediocre, subpar or low tier, I have to be worthy of it!" He joked.
I laughed softly but the thought of Tyrell's appearance made my hairs stand erect.
"So spill it lady, what's causeth thine anxiety?" Jackson asked, with a British accent.
"How did you manage to escape from my father?" I asked, diverting his attention from my worries because there was no way I would admit to anyone that my rejected mate would be there to make me feel awkward.
"Cast thine anxiety on me for I simply told.him that I needed to pass across an information to you, from the hospital, I didn't want anyone finding out that you are nervous." He confessed.
I smiled, feeling blessed with the gift of him.
"I'm just nervous that I'll be meeting the alpha of the pack, it's a really huge thing since he never graces occasions like this and he's like a super big s**t between many alphas so-"
"Shut up! You mean to tell me that the alpha will be here?" Jackson exclaimed.
I nodded my head as he seemed more excited than ever.
"I'll get to see the alpha, are you kidding me! This is huge!" He said, excitedly.
I didn't know when I started laughing as his expression was priceless and he went on and on, on how he had prepared this big speech and all that. I felt a very hostile stare bore into my skin and waved it off as first and held Jackson's hands as he kept talking but then the stare intensified and I turned around to see alpha Tyrell staring at my direction, scowling.
"What in-"
I began to say but it stuck in my throat as he began to walk towards my direction.
