chapter two. I'm an Alpha

1653 Words
Xylia wished she had just listened and left, but her ego was bruised so she shifted, challenging Haelyna to a fight. It hadn’t ended well because she miscalculated. The wolf that had appeared before her was almost the same size as the Alpha’s and just one wave of her claw left her deeply wounded. She left his chambers in shame, guilt and pain.Nothing could soothe it and there was the sinking realisation that the Alpha wasn’t going to be hers anymore. Not as long as Haelyna was still alive. Haelyna was now as much of a Beast as they were and being mated to the Alpha made her even stronger than the average Beast. She had shown her strength and cancelled all the judgements they had about her being weak because she certainly wasn’t. Xylia adjusted in her spot on the floor by the door, a soft thump going about in her head as she healed. This was the first time she was so wounded that she had to wait for so long to heal. Even her attire was ripped enough for all the sleazy Beasts she had met on the way to make passes at her. It was difficult for her to stop sobbing as she walked, but crying blurred her vision and she was having a heard time walking already. Xylia knew they had to leave the Capital before Haelyna found them like she had promised. When she was almost completely healed, she stood up with furrowed brows and wondered why her mother still hadn’t stepped out to welcome her. “Mummy?” She could smell her in the house, but it was hard for her to pinpoint where exactly she was so Xylia started her search. She only got lucky enough when she got to the basement to find Kira unconscious with the vials scattered all around her. “Mummy? Mummy?!” Xylia didn’t care about the state of her clothes as she ran to the clinic in the Capital, carrying Kira. Her breaths were coming out in short puffs as she ran and Kira was barely breathing. The though had her clutching harder and running faster. By the time she reached the clinic, her legs had been pierced by rocks and sticks lying on the path, but that waasn’t her concern. She babbled to the nurses, hoping they could hear her words amidst her sobs. Xylia knew they were losing their place in the city, but she didn’t want to lose her mother. If only she had been back sooner, maybe none of this would have happened, but it was too late for her to regret. She could only hope nothing went wrong in the treatment and her mother would be alright. ⧫ Kira peeled her eyes open to see Xylia seated by her bed. She looked around at the sanitary white room and exhaled when she realised she was at the clinic. Her eyes wandered to Kira dn the little marks scattered across her body before settling on her healing scalp. Kira tried to sit up instantly because she could tell things weren’t right and she didn’t want believe it was she thought that happened. “Xylia…” She called, her voice raspy. “Xylia.” Xylia adjusted and looked up before shooting up from her seat. “Oh, mummy. I was so scared when I saw you slumped on the floor. What were you doing in the basement?” As Xylia shot up, Kira got a clearer view of the tattered mess that was left of her dress and despite her weak state, she could feel her wolf raging in her mind. “Did the Alpha do this to you?” Xylia looked at her mother in confusion before bringing her gaze to the dress. “It wasn’t the Alpha. Haelyna did this to me when she saw what I was doing with the Alpha. They mated fully mummy. Haelyna is as much of a beast as I am now.” “I can’t believe that twig survived a full mating.” Kira scoffed and turned her head to the side as she coughed. Blood splattered on the bed and she started breathing heavily. “Help!” She faintly heard Xylia screaming before she succumbed to the blackness in her mind. Waking up for the second time, Kira cracked her eyes open to see Xylia still seated by the bed, but she wasn’t sleeping anymore, she was crying. Kira instantly felt guilty as she watched her baby girl crying. Even worse, she blamed it all on the Alpha because if he had simply stuck with her daughter, none of this would have happened. She could feel Xylia’s emotions hitting her, her fear, anger and shame. Beasts cherished holding their emotions and keeping them at bay. For Xylia to let hers out, it only meant they had gotten too overwhelming for her to control which had led to it showing. “Stop crying, Lia.” Kira whispered, her hand resting on Xylia’s shoulder. “It’s going to be okay.” At her words, Xylia cried harder, shoulders shaking violently. “It’s not going to be okay, mummy. You’re… you’re dying. T-the doctor said you’re dying.” Kira was numb after hearing those words and over the course of days that went by, she still couldn’t let her herself believe she was dying. She still had a lot to do in life, so much to achieve that she hadn’t yet. Xylia hadn’t been able to get her to talk or eat for those past few days and she knew her attitude was worrying. All of it was the Alpha’s fault, she thought, the Alpha and that leech. Kira made up her mind, deciding there was no other way for her to get what she needed if she didn’t go the extra mile. Since the Alpha wasn’t ready to make her daughter his Luna and the other Beasts had chosen to turn a blind eye to all of it, they all had to bear the consequences together. From what Kira had heard Xylia, she knew it was a matter of time before they were forcefully thrown out of the city by Haelyna. She also knew that what she said to the Alpha would matter little because he would do anything to please his Luna. she hated it. Kira despised all of them. On the day she set out to carry out her plans, she told Xylia where she had kept her savings. The money was going to be enough for them to start a new lufe in a different city, but Kira had no interest inleaving. She didn’t tell that to Xylia though, knowing the child would be so worried that she wouldn’t leave the hospital anymore and she didn’t need that. She wanted to be alone when she did it. When night came, Kira heaved herself off her bed with her canines digging into her bottom lip to stop her from screaming from the pain. The doctors had told her to lay off her body for sometime to give her time to recuperate fully or close enough. There was something inside her that was eating at her slowly so her body had been incapable of healing any further, lesving her defenseless. She snuck out of the hospital as quietly as she could, leaving at a time she knew they weren’t going to be around. She walked through the woods, hissing inwardly each time something pricked her legs. Her night vision was still fairly good, but she still had a hard time stepping away from the thorns. She hadn’t worn her shoes either, but she didn’t care. Her mind was focused on where she was heading up ahead: the mountains. To the Beasts, it wasn’t just a mountain and that was why they had broken it off from the rest pf the lands. There was a wide ditch between the forest and the mountains and Kira summoned her wolf with the last bits of strength she had left. There was a huge chance she wouldn’t even get far enough to do what she wanted, but she had to try. As she readied her body, she heard a howl in the distance and leaped. Her body struggled to stay on the mountain as she hit it, her side hitting the rocks. She clawed at the side of the mountain, using her hind legs to propel herself foward. When she finally balanced herself on it, she exhaled before coughing. Blood dribbled from her snout, her mouth and her claws seemed to have broken off, but she moved on, limping. As she reached the top of the mountain, she howled loudly before shifting to her human form. She was soaked in her own blood and knew she only had minutes to go before she lost her life. “I am willing to put my life on the line if you can curse the Silver pack.” She said to no one in particular, bit smiled as she heard a rumble in the clouds. “They have wronged my daughter and I, i need them to feel my pain. I curse them with the overwhelming sense of shame with their Beasts and weakness rather than strength when they shift to their wolf forms. They should feel so weak they are unable to defend themselves, including the Alpha.” Dry coughs sounded and she struggled to get her breaths under control. “I curse them. The only cure they can have is if a child from my bloodline takes the throne. If not, they shall continue their suffering until eternity!” Her body shook violently as she felt her soul leaving her body and she accepted knowing her curse had been placed. Thousands of weak whines sounded from the Capital and Kira smiled softly before taking her last breath. Their end was only the beginning.
