She watched the soldiers grab him by the shoulders and haul him to a truck. The medics were strapping her into an oxygen mask and trying to take her vitals. She kept her eyes on Trigg as if just by looking at him, she could avoid the inevitable pain that was coming. Her heart ached, and as he was thrown into the truck and driven away, the ache became a ragged wound. She sobbed, trying to keep herself under control. It would have been far worse to find out later. At least I know it wasn’t real. I could have been hurt so much worse. Theoretically, this made sense, but the scar in her heart didn’t agree.
